In Ad Hoc networks, the salvation character of this scheme improves the performance of the 802.11 MAC protocol. However, the IEEE802.11b with variable bit rate is widely used at present. Consequently, it is necessary to analyze the behavior of MASA in variable rate conditions. Based on the above idea, this paper proposes a new salvaging scheme called Relay Multi-rate MAC (RM-MAC), which is an integration of MASA and modified Receiver-Based AutoRate (RBAR). A two-dimensional markov model concerning this new scheme is established, and then simulation by NS2 is implemented.
