In the UK in 1992/93 the proportion of women taking computing was as low as 12.2 per cent and there is evidence that since that date this figure has dropped even lower. According to one survey in 1991 (LFS 1991) approximately two in ten higher status computing jobs were held by women. There is little doubt that if the proportion of men dropped this low, people would get very upset indeed and there would be much activity to redress the imbalance. And yet very little is done about the low numbers of women in higher education and in prestigious computing jobs—by women or men. Why is it that only lip-service is paid to recognition of this as a fundamental problem? It involves not only a denial of justice which feminists, of course, object to but also represents a massive loss to the economy in that over half its potential talent is overlooked.","PeriodicalId":334979,"journal":{"name":"Intell. A coordination plan was proposed for: 1) defining relevant information about the authoring group and individuals (expertise, roles, tasks, activities and problems), 2) outlining guidance on authoring-related issues, and 3) providing time schedules for monitoring progress. The proposed coordination plan has helped authors to maintain consistency and provided guidance for dealing with possible contingencies. Inexperienced and experienced subjects evaluated the quality of the books. Despite its uses, the plan suffered some limitations, like a lack of quality control mechanism, and poor guidance on handling some vital issues. The communication behaviour of the authors was noted and assessed.","PeriodicalId":334979,"journal":{"name":"Intell. Through the methodoogy (CPP), those invisible aspects of communication are identified and represented by the meta-language (TRS), which complements natural language. CPP-TRS (Communicative Positioning Program/Text Representation Systems) is a visual language based on a system of 12 canvas, 10 signs, 14 symbols and a wide set of visual dynamic schemes. Based on a very simple syntax, CPP-TRS is capable of representing meaning and intention as well as communicative function visually. It is the invisible aspects of natural language that are the most relevant to getting the global meaning of a text. CPP-TRS can therefore be considered an unambiguous, fast and effective visual system for reinforcing natural language.","PeriodicalId":334979,"journal":{"name":"Intell. This series of projects is known as the Atlantis InterArc EC Research Programme. The first phase has established parity for shared screen and simultaneous voice communication via ISDN Planet II. The establishment of a ‘Virtual Studio’ at each location has allowed the group to exchange files, see other computer screens at remote locations, and operate other computer systems. This paper explores the convergence of technology between computers and communication and the natural development of a computer iconic language specific to a defined European user group, when cognitive investment is required to learn an iconic system through the intended removal of all phonetic underpinning. The final CD will track, monitor and report back user cognitive investment, learning t...","PeriodicalId":334979,"journal":{"name":"Intell.
