Abstract
Abstract Three experiences for authoring three books in hypertext and linear forms are described with a focus on coordination. A coordination plan was proposed for: 1) defining relevant information about the authoring group and individuals (expertise, roles, tasks, activities and problems), 2) outlining guidance on authoring-related issues, and 3) providing time schedules for monitoring progress. The proposed coordination plan has helped authors to maintain consistency and provided guidance for dealing with possible contingencies. Inexperienced and experienced subjects evaluated the quality of the books. Despite its uses, the plan suffered some limitations, like a lack of quality control mechanism, and poor guidance on handling some vital issues. The communication behaviour of the authors was noted and assessed.
