As a collaborative community, Blade.org focuses on the development and adoption of open blade server platforms (a computer server technology) through the participation of more than 100 member firms. We assert that this new community-based organisation design enables numerous firms with a common interest, but different resources and capabilities, to collaborate with one another to achieve open innovation. In this sense, Blade.org has been creatively designed to emulate the characteristics and processes of a community of individuals. We argue that the community of firms organisational model increasingly will be found in situations where continuous innovation is a strategic objective. The implications of this new organisational form are discussed for further research and practice.","PeriodicalId":334553,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Strategic Business Alliances","volume":"88 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-03-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122768668","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The MSC flagships are an integral part of MSC Malaysia and are inter-organisational networks, built through policy-driven collaborative arrangements, to help participating organisations develop innovative applications and achieve sustainable competitive advantage. These directed networks of exchange relationships are intended to create value in that the creativity and talent derived out of such an environment is perceived to result in certain competencies. Preliminary findings indicate that the three network groups are identified as having different forms or structures. The results of the statistical analysis indicate the following – that network structure is important in facilitating results for the organisations committed to the networks, where different network forms display different combinations of network characteristics and correspondingly, the different combinations lead to differing strengths in different competencies. It is especially significant where the focus is on policy-driven inter-organisational networks in developing economies.","PeriodicalId":334553,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Strategic Business Alliances","volume":"76 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117112707","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The statistics indicates the usage of social media with a projection of estimated 2.13 billion social network users worldwide in 2016 as compared to in 2012. Such strength has been recently recognised by business firms and lot of activities in marketing and human resource management are conducted through social media platform. Globalisation, project-based activities and need of specific talent pool have created an extremely profitable market for software development outsourcing business in India. The management of onshore and offshore teams lead to the formation of virtual teams in the projects. The very nature of the project being dynamic was further complicated by the low face-to-face interaction among the members in the virtual teams. The media such as emails, shared drives, etc. were not sufficient to overcome the complexities to tackle the tasks at times. A platform is required to substitute the face-to-face interaction and since social media is being considered as a new option for intra-organisational communication medium, and the benefits could be reaped maximum by the virtual team management. Apart from the social media tools such as Facebook, Twitter, blogs, etc. present for the public arena, there are enterprise wide social media based collaborative tools viz., Huddle, Yammer, Teambox, etc. for . Lot of software development companies have started using them for the better results and this has changed the face of the software project business. In this paper, the authors discuss the dynamic change brought by the use of social media tools in the virtual teams and empirically establish that the use of social media within the team for communication enhances productivity of the team.","PeriodicalId":334553,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Strategic Business Alliances","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116520322","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We developed a conceptual framework incorporating levels of control, competencies, and costs of foreign investments for market entry modes as wholly-owned subsidiaries and international joint ventures and tested our model with a survey of CEOs and managing directors at Malaysian multinational companies. Our findings suggest Malaysian multinationals are strongly influenced by their strategic motivations and their desire to exploit synergies in their choice of entry mode between wholly-owned subsidiaries and international joint ventures.","PeriodicalId":334553,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Strategic Business Alliances","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130302963","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We use an experimental role-play to simulate an initial alliance meeting. 128 subjects participated in our study and our findings reveal that in team to team negotiations, higher economic outcomes were achieved and a higher degree of competitive behaviour was reported than in individual to individual dyads, and that team aspiration alignment was associated with increased reciprocity between teams. These findings suggest that in initial negotiations in an alliance, sending teams may be better for the subsequent developments in the alliance. When these teams are aligned, they are more attuned to the behaviour of their alliance partner.","PeriodicalId":334553,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Strategic Business Alliances","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127750262","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
