We analyze the proposed detector under Gaussian noise which models the worst-case. We then analyze by considering the Laplacian noise process which has tails heavier than that of the Gaussian. We generalize the analysis considering the noise to be a mixture of Gaussians, which is often the case with noise and interference in communication systems. We analyze the performance under each of these cases for a large class of practically relevant fading channel models and primary signal models, with emphasis on low Signal-to-Noise ratio regimes. Towards this end, we derive closed form expressions for the distribution of the test statistic under the null hypothesis and the detection threshold that satisfies a constraint on the probability of false-alarm. Through Monte Carlo simulations, we demonstrate that our detection strategy outperforms an existing spectrum sensing technique based on order statistics. Most localization techniques rely on random positioning of sensor nodes where, few sensor nodes may have a small separation between adjacent nodes. Closely spaced nodes introduces correlated observations, effecting the performance of Compressive Sensing (CS) algorithm. This paper introduces a novel minimum distance separation aided compressive sensing algorithm (MDACS). The algorithm selectively eliminates Secondary User (SU) power observations from the set of SU receiving terminals such that pairs of the remaining SUs are separated by a minimum geographic distance. We have evaluated the detection of multiple sparse targets locations and error in l2-norm of the recovery vector. The proposed method offers an improvement in detection ratio by 20% while reducing the error in l2-norm by 57%. A reliable spatial interpolation technique, surface spline interpolation, is applied to interference cartography. Using this information, a secondary network can detect the location and transmit power of the primary transmitter .On this basis, a new transmit power adaptive scheme based on location-awareness is proposed. This scheme realizes the power control according to three kinds of position relations between primary user and secondary user. The secondary user can use spectrum opportunities without causing harmful interference to primary user. Simulation analysis shows that this scheme can increase the capacity of cognitive network while maintaining a quality-of-service for primary user by limiting the interference generated by secondary user.","PeriodicalId":334012,"journal":{"name":"EAI Endorsed Trans. In this study, we numerically assess the telemetry link between an ingestible antenna and an on-body antenna which acts as a repeater. Both antennas can be incorporated in a complete Wireless Capsule Endoscopy (WCE) system. Two different scenarios are examined to assess the performance of the ingestible antenna inside the small intestine of an anatomical human model and the link with the on-body antenna. The ingestible antenna is placed in vertical and horizontal position inside the small intestine. It is found that a reliable communication link can be established, regardless the antenna orientation inside the small intestine, for a net input power of the ingestible antenna significantly lower than the maximum allowable power recommended by the IEEE safety guidelines","PeriodicalId":334012,"journal":{"name":"EAI Endorsed Trans. Apart of pharmacological treatment and psychotherapy, self-management of negative emotions is of paramount importance, because relapse of depression often results from an inadequate response to negative emotions. The purpose of this study is to design and implement a personal recommender system, for emotion regulation. It assists users to be aware of negative emotions and guides them to deal with it with behavioral activation. It analyzes the smartphone usage patterns to predict the emergence of negative emotions, while integrating data obtained from context awareness and psychiatrists' recommendations to suggest relevant emotion-regulating activities. In this pilot study, we recruited 15 normal subjects to use our recommender application for 14 days. Our system has successfully recommended activities matched to subjects' intent, and their negative emotions attenuated substantially after engaging in the activities. The presented system has a potential to provide personalized and pervasive mental health services for patients with depression.","PeriodicalId":334012,"journal":{"name":"EAI Endorsed Trans. Cogn. In this paper, we propose two methods towards road monitoring. First is to classify road signals to four road conditions. Second is to extract road signal from a smartphone's accelerometer in three positions: pants' side pocket, chest pocket and a bag in a front basket. In pants' side pocket, road signal is extracted by Independent Component Analysis. In chest pocket and bag in a front basket, road signal is extracted by selecting 1-axis affected from gravitational acceleration. In the experiment of the classification method, overall accuracy was 75%. The experimental results of the extraction methods with correlation coefficient showed the overall accuracy were more than 0.7 in pants' side pocket and chest pocket, the overall accuracy was less than 0.3 in bag in a front basket.","PeriodicalId":334012,"journal":{"name":"EAI Endorsed Trans. In some places, traffic marks painted on roads are damaged thus needed to be updated. Municipalities must manage road condition and traffic marks (road painting). It is the municipalities task to manage those roads using, for example, special inspection cars and human eyes. However, the management cost is high if a city contains many roads. This paper proposes a mechanism that automates this management. Our idea is to leverage cameras attached to garbage trucks, which run through the entire city almost everyday. The mechanism collects road images and detects damaged traffic marks using an image recognition algorithm. This paper shows the algorithm and reports the benchmark results. The benchmark showed that the mechanism can detect the damaged traffic marks with 76.6% precision.","PeriodicalId":334012,"journal":{"name":"EAI Endorsed Trans. Cogn. While the most common technique for location determination is GPS, several alternative approaches have been proposed for Wi-Fi environments, based on time of flight, signal strength, etc. Time based techniques not only require accurate timestamping mechanisms, but also precise and synchronized clocks, which is quite difficult and expensive in industry. On the other hand, signal strength based methods need a lot of ground truth data. These method also require time consuming work and efforts before the system comes into use. In considerations of costs and time consumption, we present in this paper an approach for determining the location of a general Wi-Fi device combining RTS/CTS and TDoA techniques. The proposed model is deployable in various environments and contains two different methods, with clock mapping functions and asynchronized clocks. We also explain limitations of current round trip time (RTT) based RTS/CTS systems. Extensive experiments have been conducted and demonstrated how an accuracy of about one foot can be obtained and also the assumption of RTT measurements have been verified.","PeriodicalId":334012,"journal":{"name":"EAI Endorsed Trans. Therefore, there is need for the adoption of a new spectrum sharing paradigm. Cognitive Radio (CR) is a revolutionary technology aiming to increase spectrum utilization through dynamic spectrum access, as well as mitigating interference among multiple coexisting wireless networks. In many practical scenarios, multiple CR networks may coexist in the same geographical area, and they may interfere with each other and also have to yield to the primary user (PU). In this study, we investigate how much throughput a node in a CR network can achieve in the presence of another CR network and a PU. The results of this study illustrate how the transmission probability and sensing performance affect the achievable throughput of a node in coexisting CR networks. In addition, these results may serve as guidance for the deployment of multiple CR networks.","PeriodicalId":334012,"journal":{"name":"EAI Endorsed Trans. Cogn. Spectrum profiling enables cognitive radio nodes to abstract and predict usable spectrum opportunities in pre-defined P rimary Users ( PU) c hannels. An overlay spectrum sharing approach is assumed in this paper and the evolutionary hypernetworks are used for the realization of the radio spectrum profiling concept. The abstracted information not only facilitates the optimization of channel selection and mobility, but also improves the quality of service for the secondary user applications.
