This paper is a survey of radio wave transmission in various propagation environments including irregular terrain detailing challenges and methods to overcome them. The study presents extensive work that has been done in the area of wireless communication in mountainous regions and how the challenge has been tackled over the years. Major research strides achieved towards solving this problem are highlighted. Furthermore, preliminary simulation results using MATLAB are presented. The study shows that technologies like Multiple In Multiple Out (MIMO) and Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) hold a promise to mitigating losses experienced by these networks.","PeriodicalId":331140,"journal":{"name":"2018 Open Innovations Conference (OI)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128767257","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The investigation aspect has been the main focus, however, without proper and adaptable framework that can satisfy the technological evolution and changes that has made some of the existing digital forensic requirements frameworks obsolete. This study therefore, proposes the development of a standard that specifies the requirements that must be considered in an investigation. Through literature review methodology, requirements include investigation framework, skills, legal aspects and how evidence must be handled. This standard can be used as a reference point that governs how forensic investigation should be conducted. The generic digital forensic requirements developed is simple, adaptable and easy to understand.","PeriodicalId":331140,"journal":{"name":"2018 Open Innovations Conference (OI)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128491588","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This has retarded advances of the innovation and hampered its potential benefits to users. Thus, this qualitative, empirical study was undertaken to examine and understand how the abstractive summarisation method can be diffused to increase its spread and usefulness across business and academic environments. The 1995 theory of Diffusion of Innovation (DOI) by Rogers was employed in the analysis of the existing works. Based on analysis, five main factors were identified as influencing the adoption of the abstractive summarisation method. The factors are complexity, practical effectiveness, experimental, shortened output and lack of friendliness. These factors were discussed towards gaining a better understanding of how the diffusion of abstractive summarisation method can be improved in both business and academic environments.","PeriodicalId":331140,"journal":{"name":"2018 Open Innovations Conference (OI)","volume":"14 4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116718503","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a result, organisations and/or recruiters have migrated to online employment services which provide virtual access to information services. Job seekers knowledge and skills remain critical, as the increasing use of digitalised employment information services are rapidly changing from the traditional ways of how organisations make work opportunities information available to the society. Data collection and analysis was based on a review of document reviews on employment information services and job seekers as actors using such services. The focus of this article is to understand the process of how job seekers search for work and register as users on employment services settings. The findings highlight that job seekers no longer rely heavily on traditional ways of searching and making work applications such as using newspapers and other print publications to get information. Furthermore, employment information services adoption of innovation provides scholars with an opportunity to explore new phenomenology as change occurs continuously.","PeriodicalId":331140,"journal":{"name":"2018 Open Innovations Conference (OI)","volume":"101 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130343516","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This aims in bringing down the cost of electricity consumed from the grid by consumers and prosumers; in a South African context. In order to implement the proposed scheme, the local grid needs to be a smart grid and deregulated, which is not the case in South Africa. Deregulation will allow consumers to purchase electricity from prosumers, or from the grid. In this paper, the current state of research of peer-to-peer electricity sharing will be reviewed, and compile valuable information that may assist researchers who intend to further study the feasibility of such a scheme in the South African context.","PeriodicalId":331140,"journal":{"name":"2018 Open Innovations Conference (OI)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132104042","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It considers prerequisite strategies recommended by the students, lecturers and nonacademic staff members, using actor network theory (ANT). Hence, the paper explains how certain perceived prerequisites assist in the future adoption and sustained use of m-Iearning, provided they are adequately inscribed in actors (particularly the m-Iearning policy). The paper argues that policies need to address issues relating to actors' skills, availability of technology, documentation of end-users' requirements, design and presentation of content, funding, communication of benefits including evidence of positive return on investment, reward strategies, and application ease of use (relating to development strategies) if the university is to be e-ready. By inscribing these factors in m-Iearning policy, they become visible and hence assist in aligning actors' interests within the m-Iearning readiness actor network. The scope of this paper was limited to the inscription concept rather than a full discussion of ANT concepts (identifying of actors and their relationships). The findings of this study can be used by institutions of higher education as a reference point to improve their planning for m-Iearning project implementation, usage and adoption, within their various contexts. Theoretically, this paper expands the literature on the use of ANT to underpin information systems (IS) research, specifically m-Iearning readiness.","PeriodicalId":331140,"journal":{"name":"2018 Open Innovations Conference (OI)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121578981","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hence, this study employs DFT to investigate the properties of monolayer SnS2 as function of transition metal dopant atoms. The transition metal dopants considered are T1, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu and Zn. Only cation substitutional doping has been considered and the doping profiles investigated were single-site and multi-site cation substitutional doping. S-rich conditions were found to favor both doping profiles with Ni and Ti not inducing any magnetic moment. This study provides insights on how in silico techniques can be adopted in material's research to evaluate dopant influences on the properties of the host.","PeriodicalId":331140,"journal":{"name":"2018 Open Innovations Conference (OI)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115283683","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The cost of electrical energy used for pumping water from the dam to the water treatment reservoirs is becoming considerably high. This may be attributed to poor management of the current pumping models, adding to the fact that water treatment systems do experience high level of evaporation and leakages. This study proposes an optimal energy management model to control the pumping scheduling of municipal water reservoir. The aim is to secure a continuous supply of potable water to the community, while minimizing both pumping and water costs.","PeriodicalId":331140,"journal":{"name":"2018 Open Innovations Conference (OI)","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126680646","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Different concentrations of commercially purchased silver nanoparticles (0.3 w/v%, 0.5 w/v%, 0.7 w/v%) were incorporated in gelatin and AgG films were spin-coated on ITO substrates. We did systematic study of I- V characteristics in these films. The film with 0.5 w/v% exhibits an abrupt increase in current at 6 V with ON/OFF ratio of more than 3 orders of magnitude. Further, the I- V characteristics revealed O-type hysteresis behaviour along with hopping type of conduction for higher nano particle concentrations of 0.5 and 0.7w/v%. However, for much dilute concentration of Ag (0.3 w/v%), the conduction is of ohmic type","PeriodicalId":331140,"journal":{"name":"2018 Open Innovations Conference (OI)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115102545","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
