However, most of RTGs are operated inefficiently, hence a high energy cost is incurred. The reason of poor operation efficiency of RTG crane is that the equipment is operated at a constant speed during true vertical lift, no matter how the load and/or true vertical lift change, also during the lowering of a container, the regenerative breaking energy is usually dissipated through a resistor bank. This work therefore proposes an energy management model that would improve the energy efficiency of the RTG crane. First, we propose to optimally control the regenerative breaking energy to and from the battery bank taking into account the time-of-use tariff and maximum demand. Secondly, we propose to optimally control the hosting speed according to the variability of container weight and true vertical lift.","PeriodicalId":331140,"journal":{"name":"2018 Open Innovations Conference (OI)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116609109","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using a systematic review method, this paper sought to capture the status of research in OGD over the last five years from 2012–2018. The key findings indicate that OGD is an emergent research area with no existing theoretical frameworks. The absence of design science methods suggests an opportunity to create digital government platforms based on OGD best practices. There are also strong legal concerns concerning the opening up of government data, the format of the data, and the privacy / security implications of such exposure. There is limited research on OGD for business benefit nor developing countries. We highlight some gaps for further research and identify potential opportunities.","PeriodicalId":331140,"journal":{"name":"2018 Open Innovations Conference (OI)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123234552","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For cooling a photovoltaic panel, a thermoelectric module operated as a thermoelectric cooler (TEC) attached at the back of a photovoltaic panel is a practical solution. The TEC module is used to absorb the heat generated on the surface of the photovoltaic panel, which is then dispersed by a heat-sink mounted on the opposite side of a TEC. This paper deals with the development of a mathematical model to optimally control a TEC and take into account the amount of energy used to cool down a photovoltaic panel.","PeriodicalId":331140,"journal":{"name":"2018 Open Innovations Conference (OI)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115473017","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The steady progress in renewable energy technologies is treating new opportunities for the utilization of renewable energy resources. Photovoltaic (PV) systems are among one of the most popular renewable energy sources that may be integrated with an electricity grid. With the new feed-in tariff scheme implemented by a few of the municipalities in South Africa, a new opportunity opened for residential consumers with the ability to generate energy. There is a list of regulations and policies that should be executed before the municipality should allow the consumer to connect the grid. However, apart from infrastructure, government policy and other techno-economical aspects, residential application of solar PV systems remain promising. This paper will review the relevant literature on photovoltaic technology, under the time of use (TOU) tariff and feed-in tariff scheme, applicable to residential consumers of energy in South Africa. Key elements such as operation, design, application and previous studies of PV systems used in residential application, will be discussed.","PeriodicalId":331140,"journal":{"name":"2018 Open Innovations Conference (OI)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127712249","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, they require a governing system to limit the variation of water turbine speed due to season change and variation of consumer load. These variations result in fluctuating output voltage and frequency from the generator. To solve this problem, constant voltage and frequency is achieved by controlling the electrical power output and water power input by means of electronic load controller, dump loads, power converters and mechanical regulation of turbine water flow. This paper reviews the different technologies of controlling voltage and frequency in Pico-hydro system. Furthermore, the use of a PV inverter in Pico-hydro and the maximum power point tracking technology to extract power from PV arrays will also be reviewed.","PeriodicalId":331140,"journal":{"name":"2018 Open Innovations Conference (OI)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129998570","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Strategic operation of SMA yields a positive impact on marketing activities, customer engagement, risk analysis and assessment product or service design, credit rating of customer profile, customer education and competitive analysis. Banks have started tapping into advanced prescriptive and predictive analytics into a bid to develop insights, managing high costs of compliance and non-compliance such as financial risks and reputational risks thereby generating a significant impact in business operations. Optimisation modelling of business portfolios, products and services offerings are contributing significantly towards achieving a sustainable and profitable growth. This is however, against the background of high volatility and weakening demand for traditional products in the banking industry. Systematic literature review was used in examining how banks are applying social media analytics to improve their business operations. Findings reveals that social media analytics provide concrete solutions which helps to improve revenue streams of banks, providing a guarantee for compliance, survival, sustainability and growth objectives. As a result, a integrated framework is proposed to address the gap existing in literature which lacks a focus on an integrated framework that can assist decision makers on the social media analytics to employ in the banking operations.","PeriodicalId":331140,"journal":{"name":"2018 Open Innovations Conference (OI)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120842499","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this study was to investigate the significant factors hindering the adoption of SaaS among South African SMEs. The study adopted Diffusion of Innovation Theory (DOI) as a theoretical basis. Data was collected through questionnaires and analyzed using regression analysis. The study findings indicate that some SMEs have not used SaaS because they have never heard of it. But may consider SaaS solutions if it reduces the organization's IT expenditure. For those considering using SaaS, complexity and cost of SaaS were the most significant factors determining their potential for the adoption.","PeriodicalId":331140,"journal":{"name":"2018 Open Innovations Conference (OI)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123208739","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This work was deemed necessary because all Mamdani based charge controllers in literature are defined arbitrarily thereby creating an impression that a PSO based approach may yield better results. The Energy Storage System as well as the Mamdani Fuzzy Controller and the Particle Swarm Optimizer are implemented in MATLAB. With the desired state of charge set at 50%, results show that the proposed approach yields a root mean square error that ranges from 0.04312 to 0.077287 while the original approach achieves a root mean square error of 2.7947. The error in PSO based approach is therefore less than 2.76% of the original approach.","PeriodicalId":331140,"journal":{"name":"2018 Open Innovations Conference (OI)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123279851","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Traditional data acquisition methods such as interviews, observations and questionnaires are faced with challenges especially when it comes to eliciting requirements for dynamic algorithms unambiguously. In this study, we did a comprehensive survey on contemporary RE approaches for dynamic parameterization and the factors to consider when selecting an approach to use in Feature Extraction Algorithms (FEA). Based on our findings we proposed a model that optimizes the process of RE for dynamic algorithms. A case study approach was used to evaluate the implementation our proposal.","PeriodicalId":331140,"journal":{"name":"2018 Open Innovations Conference (OI)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124805462","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
