Prospective Architecture for Local Energy Generation and Distribution with Peer-to-Peer Electricity Sharing in a South African Context
In this paper, we will investigate the possibility of an architecture for energy generation and distribution with peer-to-peer electricity sharing. This aims in bringing down the cost of electricity consumed from the grid by consumers and prosumers; in a South African context. In order to implement the proposed scheme, the local grid needs to be a smart grid and deregulated, which is not the case in South Africa. Deregulation will allow consumers to purchase electricity from prosumers, or from the grid. In this paper, the current state of research of peer-to-peer electricity sharing will be reviewed, and compile valuable information that may assist researchers who intend to further study the feasibility of such a scheme in the South African context.
