The present study aims to explore the intercultural communication between Black and Chinese speakers in the trilogy of Rush Hour. Specifically, this study aims to see the characteristics of Black English and the communicative effects of conversation among speakers of different cultural backgrounds. Through the methods of qualitative descriptive, linguistic behavior is justified to show whether the conventions are acceptable to each community group. The results show that as an American English-speaking, Carter, a Black American is more expressive in using English because he is a native speaker, while Lee, as an L2 English from China, faces more communicative barriers. The cultural value of non-standard forms also adorns such conversation, e.g., phonological and sentence structures stigmatization. This research aims to determine the grammatical alliance of the Simalungun language syntactically and its typology. It is a qualitative study with the typology approach. The data are phrases and clauses of the Simalungun language collected from informants and books – Simalungun language syntax books, by interviews and notes. It found that a transitive verb formulates the intransitive clause of the Simalungun Batak language as a predicate. The predicative verb appears with affixes. In general, the Simalungun language contains verbs that, in their presence, correspond to the subject. Simalungun language has a grammatical alliance system that treats subject (S) the same as agent (A), and a different treatment is given to predicate (P). Based on grammatical relations, the Simalungun language treats S the same as A at the syntactic level. Thus, it can be typologically grouped into syntactical accusatives. One of the popular magazines that employs figurative language to attract readers is Trubus. The current study aims to analyze the classification, structure, rhyme words, lexical meaning, and imagery styles of personification in Trubus magazine. It is descriptive qualitative research using the Metaphor Identification Procedure (MIP) approach. The data source in this study is Trubus magazine, edition 2021. Data analysis covers the personification of figurative language's reduction, assessment, and inference. The result found that the personification style in this magazine belongs to inanimate objects, which tend to be abstract. Meanwhile, the rhyme words employ the beauty of the alliteration sound at the beginning of the word. Further, the grammatical structure is general. Many studies found that slang dominated media, film, and novels. Similarly, studies on English slang received higher interest than other languages. The present study, in contrast, analyzes the slang used by Indonesian Generation Z in WhatsApp groups. The research is a qualitative study, with the researcher's primary focus in data collection being content analysis. Based on Allan and Burridge's (2006) theory, the researcher discovered 50 slang classified into seven functions: starting a relaxed conversation (27 occurrences), expressing an impression (12 occurrences), creating an intimate atmosphere (5 occurrences), addressing (3 occurrences), abusing others (3 occurrences), humiliating (0 occurrences), and expressing intimacy (0 occurrences). Furthermore, those are divided into five types: fresh and creative (7 occurrences), flippant (9 occurrences), imitative (12 occurrences), acronym (14 occurrences), and clipping (14 occurrences) (8 occurrences). The study is descriptive qualitative and uses a morphological approach to analyze the data, especially in affixation. An interview was done to collect and clarify the data. The interview is transcripted in a phonetical transcription by using IPA symbols. Based on the analysis, it is found that there are five significant prefixes and eight significant suffixes used in the Selogudigan dialect. The prefixes are {N-, i-, mən-, sə-, a-}. The prefix {N-} has allomorphs. They are {m-, n-, ŋ-, ɲ-, ŋə-}. The suffixes are {-i, -an, ­-ane, -ni, -ən, -nɔ, -ɔnɔ, -e}. The result of this study implies that the affixes which form the morphological pattern of Selogudig vocabularies are often pronounced not in a way the original affixes do. Through e-sports, teenagers wave greetings and express their thoughts in words or sentences. The greeting is closely related to the name and designation used to address people. This qualitative descriptive study discusses e-sports players' greetings, especially those on the E-sport Podcast YouTube channel. The data were collected from five transcribed videos by note-taking. Then, they were analyzed using the theory of greeting according to the theory of Crystal (1997) and Kridalaksana (1980). Finally, the data were presented in tabulation for easy understanding. This study aims to discover the structures of the patriarchal culture experienced by Kim Ji-Young and their impacts on her life. A biographical approach is employed to relate the author’s life and thoughts to her work. Data are analyzed qualitatively by classifying the structures of patriarchal culture under Sylvia Walby’s theory and describing their impacts by Irish Marion Young’s theory of gender oppression. The results show six patriarchal cultural structures that Kim Ji-Young experienced since childhood. In her childhood, Kim Ji-Young experienced discrimination in culture, violence, and the state system. In her adolescence, she encountered unequal treatment in culture and sexuality. Growing up, she suffered from the gender pay gap, household production, sexuality, culture, and violence. Patriarchal culture has impacted her life in four aspects, violence in her adolescence and adulthood, powerlessness during childhood and adulthood, marginalization during childhood and adulthood, and exploitation in her adulthood. The results concluded that Kim Ji-Young experiences patriarchal culture, which significantly influences her life. Interestingly, the novel Kim Ji-Young, Born 1982, reflects the biography of Cho Nam-Joo. The data of this study were collected directly from the transportation around the streets. They were analyzed using qualitative methods, while the symbolic functions were analyzed using a critical discourse analysis model. It found that land transportation uses multi-languages, English, Indonesian, Kupang Malay, Uab Meto (Dawan), Rote, Sabu, Hebrew, Latin, and Betawi. Some use a particular style of language, such as p27den, and a combination of two or more languages or dialects. English is the most dominant language used. The lack of local languages shows massive cultural changes and people's attitudes toward local languages. The linguistic unit consists of words, phrases, clauses, sentences, and acronyms. English is dominant in each linguistic unit except in acronyms. The quotes represent six themes: love, religion, music, power, family, and regionalism. It is also considered from the perspective of intercultural communication access to developments in the humanities, sciences, and technologies. It is the fastest, most effective, and most efficient approach to transmitting knowledge and technology. Therefore, it is necessary to apply translation methodologies and techniques to ascertain the translator's translation ideology. The research method used in this research is the qualitative research design. This research took samples of the translation of mechanical engineering terms in Schaum's Outline of Theory and Problems of Heat Transfer to look for techniques, methods, and ideologies used by translators to translate these terms from English into Indonesian. The data obtained were 175, with the discovery of 109 single translation techniques, 50 double translation techniques, and six triplet translation techniques. Three translation methods are applied: the literal translation method, the faithful translation method, and the semantic translation method. This study aimed to identify and describe Indonesian LVCs as morphosemantic phenomena. The dataset comprises Indonesian sentences containing featured LVCs. Three corpora were utilized as data sources: Leipzig Corpora Collection – Indonesian (LCCI), SEAlang Library Indonesian Text Corpus (SEAlang), and Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia (KBBI). In this study, a framework from Morphosemantics has been employed to provide the deep analysis technique. The results revealed the following two folds. First, at the morphological level, the Indonesian verb membuat 'make' is a clear indicator of the existence of LVCs. Second, on a semantic level, the verb membuat ‘make’ in Indonesian LVCs tends to produce ACTION type verbs, AGENT paired argument of verbs and RESULTATIVE grammatical meaning.
