Through photo essay exploration, we attempted to reveal the agential cut of the teacher pressing the ‘shutter’ of the camera, alongside the material agency of the photo itself. Data were collected from photo essays, researcher journals, documents, and other materials from the 4-year-old N class at Public M Kindergarten in City B. Data were analyzed through the process of selecting photos, contextualizing, and categorizing. As a result of the study, the matter~meaning of play materials in the early childhood education field was found to include ‘play materials that traverse familiarity and unfamiliarity, play materials that are constantly created and lead to change, and play materials that are intertwined in the field of learning.’ Through this study, teachers need to perceive play materials as living and created materials, facilitate encounters with various play materials, and understand the learning that occurs in the entanglement with play materials, thereby leading to the implementation of the curriculum. Furthermore, it is expected that the actions of early childhood teachers who think and reflect with play materials in entangled relationships can open up new possibilities of teacher pedagogy oriented toward practice.","PeriodicalId":326278,"journal":{"name":"Korean Society for Critical Inquiry of Childhood Education","volume":"20 6","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139590789","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study is a self-study that records various events, feelings, experiences, and emotions encountered while looking at the children's body in everyday moments while living with children for a year from 2021, and experiences and emotions experienced while implementing the curriculum as an improvisation in photos, videos, and texts, frequently sharing opinions with fellow teachers and members of the learning community, analyzing the contents, and interpreting and describing their meaning. Through this study, teachers' old stereotypes and habits crack, fall into dilemmas, try to dismantle dichotomous structures, and see children communicate with the world through their bodies and acquire and express various experiences with their bodies, and teacher(I) try to de-power, trust children, recognize and watch their various attempts, listen to children, and practice pedagogy of listening. In addition, it creates a curriculum in which improvisation and planning are intertwined, and it contains various experiences and efforts to implement the curriculum as improvisation experienced by trying to escape. This suggests that teachers in the field see the children's body again, breaking away from the way they have seen it before, and provides the possibility to implement the curriculum as an improvisation based on the teacher’s changed gaze.","PeriodicalId":326278,"journal":{"name":"Korean Society for Critical Inquiry of Childhood Education","volume":"47 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139590878","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An entry to this study emerged as we unexpectedly encountered with pink teddy-bear socks which were appearing in the edges of several photos in the process of re-viewing play observation records. We generated data from the past play observation records (journals, photos, video clips), new participant observation records, dialogues with the teacher, researchers’ thinking-with-data~theory and joint affective writings. Through the data of onlooking children who freely chose to enjoy watching over a play for an extended period of time, move around co-existing plays, or jump into an affect-laden play, we learned about their agency and the value of onlooking behaviors as a joyful play itself. Moreover, their onlooking was one of competent play participation strategies to understand ongoing play frameworks and find the right moment to get involved, and also functioned well in those moments to help peers in conflicts or in need. Entanglements of children, teacher, materials, and space-times were witnessed in our data, as the waves of onlooking~playing~learning constantly emerge, overlap, diffract, intra-act in their material-discursive arrangements. We hope that re-configurations of onlooking children may disturb and unsettle adults’ perspectives on young children as not-yet, immature, lacking subjects based on the standardized, universalized developmental stages and, furthermore, help us to reconsider young children’s agency to affect and be affected in the entangled relationality, and generate differences in the world they live.","PeriodicalId":326278,"journal":{"name":"Korean Society for Critical Inquiry of Childhood Education","volume":"26 5","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139590931","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study utilized participatory observation and a posthumanist approach, drawing on van Manen's hermeneutic phenomenological analysis method. The study was conducted at Y Kindergarten in Busan, focusing on one class of four-year-old children, from early October 2022 to the end of January 2023, with observations conducted four to five days a week, approximately from 9:00 to 13:00, totaling 70 sessions. The research findings and their significance can be summarized as follows. First, as posthuman beings, young children initiate dramatic play from the arrangement of materials, and in their dramatic play, various theatrical elements such as stories, props, characters, and backgrounds are enacted and manifested. Second, as posthuman beings, young children experience heightened dramatic experiences within their dramatic play, and their unique characteristics are expressed.Third, as posthuman beings, young children establish relationships with materials within their environment. This study is significant in that it views infants as posthuman beings and examines the emergent nature of infant existence revealed in expressive theatrical play. In the future, it is hoped that children will be recognized as posthumans in early childhood education and that expressive theatrical play will be actively carried out.","PeriodicalId":326278,"journal":{"name":"Korean Society for Critical Inquiry of Childhood Education","volume":"10 11","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139591336","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To this end, 10 children aged 3-5 in a mixed class of a daycare center were observed participating in special music activities for about 4 months, and as a kind of post-qualitative research method, Deleuze's philosophical concepts were used for analyzing the data generated. As a result of the study, young children created new meanings through various sensory encounters in music activities using musical instruments, and invented their own musical styles through creative experiments and expressions. In addition, the children's musical instrument activities were interpreted as the meaning of new creation through agential practices of musical ‘becoming.’ Based on these results, it was suggested that looking at young children's musical activities with an open eye by focusing on their encounters with materials and relationships, and moving from the standardized teaching approaches to new meanings created by musical instruments through philosophical thinking.","PeriodicalId":326278,"journal":{"name":"Korean Society for Critical Inquiry of Childhood Education","volume":"48 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139590864","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To this end, the importance of structural and process quality, especially children-teacher interactions, was discussed as factors that determine the quality of childcare services. In addition, the OECD TALIS Starting Strong, which aims to evaluate and improve the quality of early childhood education and care, and the evaluation systems of the UK, New Zealand, and Australia, which manage the quality of early childhood education and care with an institutional evaluation system, were examined. Through this, it was suggested that the daycare center evaluation system should focus more on the process quality, pay attention to the quality of experience of children, improve the constant quality of childcare through support for the implementation of national-level standard childcare processes, and emphasize efforts for the institution's own and continuous growth.","PeriodicalId":326278,"journal":{"name":"Korean Society for Critical Inquiry of Childhood Education","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129457289","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to achieve the purpose, this study takes the form of Arts-based research method. The pieces of art are ‘in-depth interview based on art’, ‘a journey with a camera’, and ‘artistic (text) writing of a researcher’. First, in the art-based in-depth interview, a total of 7 early childhood educators located in different networks participated. In a class in which three of the early childhood teachers who participated in the interview were employed, a total of 16 observations were made in each class for about three months. For the collected data, an data analysis was conducted that crossed the boundary between data collection and analysis. The results were as stated below. This study examined that the implementation of the early childhood curriculum operates onto-epistemologically as a learning movement in which teachers, children, and matter interfere with each other. Furthermore, It was an ethical movement conducted in a relationship within a world without the essence of learning. This study was that it considers that the implementation of the early childhood education curriculums unfolds through relationships, entanglement, and interference, and suggests that it needs attention to further expand its vitality.","PeriodicalId":326278,"journal":{"name":"Korean Society for Critical Inquiry of Childhood Education","volume":"668 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122544515","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study was conducted from May 2021 to January 2022. Through a collaborative action research, we examined what teachers have changed as they solved the observation documentation that they considered difficult in the play-centered curriculum. As a result of the collaborative action research, first, the principal and the teacher decided to face each other, and the principal, the researcher, supported and resolved the concerns of the participating teachers. Second, by finding the meaning of the observation documentation , the change in form, the realization of the importance of the process of reviewing the observation documentation, and the release of the burden of the observation documentation were made. Third, to see early childhood a play again, it is to learn the competence of infants and to rediscover infants' play. In the process of exploring observational documentation, I came to understand the play-centered curriculum. Through this collaborative action research, as teachers and researchers explore the method of recording observations documentation, the perspective of looking at infants and young children changes, which is meaningful in understanding the play-centered curriculum.","PeriodicalId":326278,"journal":{"name":"Korean Society for Critical Inquiry of Childhood Education","volume":"72 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129022410","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study follows literature review which has been started from 2017 by collecting and synthetically analizing researcher’s continuous and deep reading and intra-active journals. The result can be categorized into three parts: first, the introduction of background of post-qualtitative research and post-philosophy, second, understanding post-qualtiative research: focused on St. Pierre, and third, post-qualtative research methdology as inquiry. The philosophical foundation of post-qualtative research is posthumanism, new-materialism, Barad’s agential realism and Deleuze’s thought. It overcomes the limits of methodological representationism and attempts to turn ontologically. Accordingly, perspective shift to relational ontology and resistance against interpretation during data analysis are important methodological issues. Post-qualitative research, as “thousand tiny methodologies”(Lather, 2013, p.635), goes beyond reflection and representation and is more likely to be diffractive, rhizomatic, experimentational and performative. I hope researchers would regard their own problems, thoughts, theories, concepts and intra-action with materisals valuable. Its own inquiry will be adventure and experimentation as long as it travels towards inquiry-driven way, not method-driven.","PeriodicalId":326278,"journal":{"name":"Korean Society for Critical Inquiry of Childhood Education","volume":"233 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121140830","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
