The EPVA is a proven technique for fault diagnosis of induction motors working in steady state regime. However, this approach has some practical limitations: it requires the simultaneous measurement of three-phase currents, using three high-resolution, synchronous analog-to-digital converters, operated at high sampling rates to avoid aliasing artifacts, and during long periods for reaching suitable frequency resolution; thus, a huge amount of data must be stored and processed. To solve these problems, a cost-effective implementation of the EPVA is presented in this paper. The proposed approach only requires a single ADC channel sampled at a very low frequency rate and, besides, it reduces the computational requirements (storage capacity, calculation time) to less than 1% of those required by the conventional EPVA. In this way it can be implemented in real time, using low cost embedded devices. This approach is theoretically introduced and experimentally validated using commercial induction motors with broken bars, under different supply and load conditions.","PeriodicalId":325413,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Diagnostics for Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives (SDEMPED)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130286049","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In transient conditions high currents and temperatures develop, forcing the electric motor and particularly the insulation materials to undergo severe multi-stress. Insulation degradation will progressively lead to short-circuits which are harmful for the traction motor, vehicle safety and reliability. This paper focuses on the thermal assessment of insulation's capacitance at switching frequencies. For this, thin-film winding insulation samples were thermally aged at different temperatures and for various periods of time. Dielectric spectroscopy was applied and the capacitance information at different frequencies was extracted. The measurements were substituted to statistical analysis under three factors namely; ageing time, temperature and frequency. It is also evaluated how appropriate it is to use capacitance measurements as a means for reliable prognostics. The statistical analysis depicts that the capacitance does not follow predictable ageing patterns, mainly because the material's dielectric properties are affected by a number of different degradation mechanisms that occur concurrently.","PeriodicalId":325413,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Diagnostics for Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives (SDEMPED)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130845292","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Consequently, it is of special interest to identify the most common faults present in these machines and develop reliable and cost-effective diagnostic tools to properly maintain them. In this context, the infrared thermography coupled with signal processing algorithms can be a very relevant tool. The main objective is to analyze its potential by focusing on two common fault conditions, bearing and ventilation system. To do so, the two of them were induced in an induction motor and compare during transient state and under similar working conditions against the healthy motor. The results reveal its capacity to identify the thermal sensitive regions for each case, highlight significant differences between the tested scenarios and its high temperature sensitivity especially relevant for determining severity degrees. These findings allow the authors to conclude that the proposed methodology, based on thermography and signal processing algorithms, has a high potential to become a diagnostic tool easily implementable in an industrial context.","PeriodicalId":325413,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Diagnostics for Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives (SDEMPED)","volume":"98 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124925897","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

IPMM magnetic saturation and cross coupling effects are taken into consideration, increasing significantly the precision of the developed controllers. Maximum Torque per Ampere (MTPA) and Field Weakening (FW) operating modes below and above the rated speed, respectively, are considered for an Electric Vehicle (EV) application. In the Field Oriented Control (FOC) case, this is achieved by implementing convenient Look-Up Tables (LUT) and PI controllers, while in the Model Predictive Control (MPC) case it is obtained via a particular cost function. Moreover, in the MPC case, an additional power loss tracking factor is introduced in the cost function, in order to minimize the total motor losses over the entire drive cycle. The proposed control techniques are evaluated under both steady state and dynamic conditions, illustrating the relative advantages of MPC in terms of robustness and dynamic behavior.","PeriodicalId":325413,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Diagnostics for Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives (SDEMPED)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125158276","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They are frequently used for filtering and storage functions because of their small size, large capacitance and low price. However, AECs also represent the major cause for power electronics equipment breakdown, mainly due to their wear out through the vaporization of the electrolyte, as a result of both aging and temperature effects. The aging of AECs is expressed by the increase of their equivalent series resistance (ESR) and the decrease of their capacitance (C). Therefore, estimating these two parameters can provide a good indicator for a potential capacitor failure. Additionally, these changes in C and ESR parameters strongly influence the ratio between the capacitors voltage ripple and their current ripple. This ratio is dominated by C at low frequencies and by the ESR in the high frequency range. Hence, this paper suggests a method for on-line estimating and tracking of both C and ESR using that ratio, which is computed starting from some always existing harmonics at low and high frequencies. The proposed method uses the Short Time Least Square Prony's (STLSP) technique to determine and track the amplitudes of the target harmonics. The STLSP technique is well suited for such application, since it has the ability to determine and track the amplitude and frequency of any spectral component, even for noisy and non-stationary signals, using a small number of data samples. This reduces a lot the calculation time and the storage requirements. Consequently, the proposed method is appropriate for online implementation. The method's effectiveness is proved by simulation and experimental tests using a boost DC-DC converter.","PeriodicalId":325413,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Diagnostics for Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives (SDEMPED)","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127035482","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the brittle ceramic dielectric makes MLCCs prone to mechanical damage. Manufacturing defects or damage during board assembly may cause a capacitor to prematurely fail during its operational life. Here, we demonstrate fast and non-destructive acoustic screening of MLCCs. Soldered 2220-sized MLCCs were subjected to AC voltage frequency sweeps, causing them to vibrate mechanically. Acoustic responses of the capacitors were measured before and after subjecting the test circuit board to severe bending. The results show that cracks and delaminations caused by bending induce characteristic changes in the capacitors' acoustic response.","PeriodicalId":325413,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Diagnostics for Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives (SDEMPED)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126858964","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Especially for induction motors, since they are of fundamental importance to the industry worldwide, many techniques and methodologies for the early fault detection-diagnosis have been proposed so far. In this paper, an attempt is made to develop a mechanism in order to diagnose faults in a three-phase squirrel cage induction motor rotor bars. The concept is implemented by primarily taking into account the information extracted from the classical motor current signature analysis (MSCA) and then a model identification method approach is formulated using data set manipulation known as subtractive clustering. The method is based on adaptive neuro fuzzy inference system (ANFIS). An investigation on the validity of the proposed method is performed, through experimental data taken from a healthy motor operation as well as those from the same motor with 1, 2 and 3 broken bars. From the derived results it is shown that they present satisfactory sensitivity and accuracy characteristics and thus the proposed method may be a suitable candidate mechanism in the early rotor bar fault detection phase of induction motors.","PeriodicalId":325413,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Diagnostics for Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives (SDEMPED)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130751697","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The unsupervised classification by k-means method allows regrouping the periods of operation into classes using the Euclidean distance as a criterion of similarity. The classes obtained are characterized by the production activities of the different gases, various operating constraints and the incipient failures. These periods also highlight the maintenance actions carried out on the insulating oil.","PeriodicalId":325413,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Diagnostics for Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives (SDEMPED)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125429892","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The method exploits the transient current response to track eccentricity- and slotting-related machine saliencies. By using the fault indicator's locus, a separation of mixed eccentricity components is performed, without comparison to additional reference measurements of the faultless case (no eccentricity). It is shown, that the fault indicator related to certain machine designs can be used to extract a reliable reference from the eccentric machine. This allows for the separation of static and dynamic proportions from the overall mixed eccentricity.","PeriodicalId":325413,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Diagnostics for Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives (SDEMPED)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122890619","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

FRA is quite sensitive method and it can be influenced by different factors in transformer simply; however, this sensitivity will make it superior rather than other transformer winding deformation diagnosis techniques. This study has concentrated on tap-changer position influence on FRA signature. Practical study is performed on a 33 kV, 40 MVA three-phase core type transformer to examine on-load tap-changer (OLTC) position on frequency response spectrum in different frequency bands in Bode diagram. Oscillations in different frequency bands are discussed and their fluctuations are interpreted. Low-frequency band oscillations of FRA spectrum due to tap position changes are analyzed and discussed in detail. Distinguishing the tap-changer influence on FRA spectrum from winding deformation is quite crucial for FRA data interpretation.","PeriodicalId":325413,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Diagnostics for Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives (SDEMPED)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134443207","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
