In this context, diagnosing rotor magnets degradation at incipient stage is crucial to guaranty the required efficiency of the machines. In the present paper the attention is focused on a five-phase surface-mounted permanent magnet synchronous generator, and a new technique is investigated for detecting possible demagnetization of the rotor magnets due to high stator currents. A new diagnostic technique, based on third-space power signature analysis, is presented. The validity of the proposed new approach is verified by numerical simulations.","PeriodicalId":325413,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Diagnostics for Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives (SDEMPED)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114789185","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Laboratory tests have verified on two different models of motors the reflected wave phenomenon, which induces on their terminals a rising voltage edge with peaks higher than twice the DC link voltage; further tests in a qualified firm have revealed that these peaks exceed the partial discharge inception voltage (PDIV) for one of the two types of motor. An invasive and specialized series of tests on the insulation material extracted from the stators has proven that an appropriate insulation system represents the best solution to avoid an early die-off of inverter-fed motors. Other two mitigation methods proposed in the literature have been experimentally tested, revealing that they do not assure the solution to the problem.","PeriodicalId":325413,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Diagnostics for Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives (SDEMPED)","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128460512","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are many different approaches in monitoring the health of an electrical machine, e.g. noise-, vibration- or current-based methods. This paper investigates and compares different methods for noise analysis. Each method provides an own representation of the analysed signal. Therefore, the presented methods are compared regarding their suitability in analysing electrical machines. In the following sections, first the theory behind all methods is presented. Later on, selected error states are re-enacted using an induction machine. Finally, utilizing measured noise and acoustic signals allows assessing the presented methods.","PeriodicalId":325413,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Diagnostics for Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives (SDEMPED)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133150497","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Typically, the electrical machine is designed for stable operation with minimum noise and vibrations under normal conditions. When the fault emerges, some additional distortions appear. The necessity to detect the fault of an electrical motor in an early stage, to prevent further damage of the drive system due to electric motor fault propagation, is one of the most important features of condition monitoring or diagnostic technique for electrical machines. In this paper, possible induction motor faults are classified and basic algorithm for rotor faults pre-determination is presented.","PeriodicalId":325413,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Diagnostics for Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives (SDEMPED)","volume":"78 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115043622","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A new timedomain signal processing algorithm using second order generalized integrator-adaptive notch filter (SOGI-ANF) is introduced for online extraction of both steady state and transient envelopes. The adaptive nature and the structural simplicity of the SOGI-ANF as well as its low cost and low computation burden characteristics make it highly suitable for hardware implementation using embedded devices. The superiority of the SOGI-ANF over traditional Hilbert transform-based methods is its adaptive nature which allows accurate tracking of envelope variations. The analytical basis of the proposed method and its experimental verification using a STM32F4 discovery board are investigated. Finite element method (FEM) and experimental setup in the laboratory are also employed to demonstrate the adaptivity and performance of the SOGI-ANF in extracting the steady state and transient phase current envelopes.","PeriodicalId":325413,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Diagnostics for Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives (SDEMPED)","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114359415","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
