The multi-mode characteristics and frequent change between modes make the fault detection difficult. To monitor multi-mode processes, a mode-correlation Principal Component Analysis (PCA) method is proposed. Firstly, the multi-mode characteristics of MCT are presented. Then, the paper gives the effect of multi-mode process on the conventional PCA and analyses the relationship between the modes. Finally, a normalized method is proposed to dynamically fit the mode, the statistic value between different modes in PCA is removed. Theoretical analysis and experimental results verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.","PeriodicalId":325413,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Diagnostics for Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives (SDEMPED)","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131129421","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

First, a new way to accurately model power alternators is depicted. Thanks to a co-simulation process between Flux2D and Matlab, this model of a healthy alternator is able to faithfully reproduce the waveforms of the signals in the system and therefore their harmonic contents. This information is indeed crucial to perform an efficient diagnosis study. The method is then applied to a faulty machine with stator inter-turn short-circuit. It enables a spectral evaluation of the modifications introduced in the signals by the occurrence of a stator fault. Thanks to experimental measurements, the observations noted for simulated spectra have been validated and an identification of fault indicators has been achieved.","PeriodicalId":325413,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Diagnostics for Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives (SDEMPED)","volume":"133 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122769777","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

First, a new time-frequency analysis named self-commissioning short time zoom matrix pencil method has been proposed. The analysis has high computing efficiency and maintains high spectral resolution, and it is completely free of human maneuver in dealing with nonstationary and quasi-stationary operating conditions. Vast estimates can be generated from a very finite length of measured data. Second, a feature extraction analysis is presented to settle the common problem of high resolution spectral approaches in quasi-stationary operating condition, where noise, fluctuations of loads and rotor speed contribute to judgement discrepancy or failure in diagnosis results. The feature extraction analysis provides approximately unbiased fault-related frequencies and sideband amplitudes by introducing Monte Carlo method and specific distribution fitting. The entire approach has been validated on interior permanent magnet motors with different degrees of rotor eccentricity in experiments.","PeriodicalId":325413,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Diagnostics for Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives (SDEMPED)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115711225","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed approach is based on calculating the negative sequence component of the startup stator currents, and enables to visualize the characteristic pattern of the lower sideband component (LSH) during the startup transient. Unlike previous published approaches, the proposed method does not need to use either frequency domain transforms nor time-frequency transforms or complex mathematic functions. Thus it can be implemented as an embedded algorithm in preexisting electronic devices or in low cost devices such as DSPs or tablets. In this paper the method is theoretically justified and validated through simulation and laboratory tests.","PeriodicalId":325413,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Diagnostics for Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives (SDEMPED)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117079476","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim is to use both electrical and mechanical signatures of a wound rotor induction generator for fault diagnosis through both numerical simulation and experimental approaches. In this regard, a dynamic model of the system, which includes all mechanical components in the drive-train, is presented. It is shown that the sun gear tooth localized fault generates fault impacts at the N×(fs-fc) frequency in the mechanical torque. It is also observed that the most sensitive fault frequency components are close to the main natural torsional resonance frequencies of the mechanical system under study. The simulation results are validated by experiments obtained from a test-rig based upon a 5.5kW wound rotor induction generator which is linked to a one-stage planetary gearbox through mechanical couplings and a high speed shaft. The results demonstrate that the gear tooth localized fault can be detected using both the mechanical torque and the stator current signature of the wound rotor induction generator.","PeriodicalId":325413,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Diagnostics for Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives (SDEMPED)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129274141","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The wavelet signal theory is evaluated as an alternative diagnostic method, able to identify either a breakdown or a misplacement of a position sensor. The proposed method combines the required noise insensitivity with the measurement of a single signal. Since the DC-link current of the inverter input is highly affected by erroneous position sensing and usually measured in BLDC drives, it was chosen as the only necessary informational signal. Consequently, the wavelet signal theory was assessed as the first stage of a fault tolerant control system (FTCS) and its effectiveness to identify both types of position sensor faults was experimentally verified.","PeriodicalId":325413,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Diagnostics for Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives (SDEMPED)","volume":"63 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122895485","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The method is based on the Linear Discriminant Analysis and on the spectral analysis of three signals (current of one phase and external stray flux measured with two different sensors). In order to obtain a relatively simple instrument for applications in industrial cases, only the first odd harmonics multiple of the fundamental have been chosen as features for the classifiers. All the considered signals have provided interesting diagnostic results, even if the best performance is given by the current.","PeriodicalId":325413,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Diagnostics for Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives (SDEMPED)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130722621","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These two statements will certainly trigger, in a near future, the adoption of district-scale DC grids, connecting DC micro-generation plants and consumers, in an effort to cut the number of conversion steps required to deliver power to DC appliances. DC-DC converters will be fundamental in these systems, allowing the creation of several voltage levels. The reliability of these converters plays a key role, ensuring service continuity of the loads connected to them. With the increase of reliability in mind, this paper applies an open-circuit fault-diagnostic method suitable for several DC-DC converter topologies. A new reconfiguration strategy is proposed to mitigate the adverse impacts of such faults. To prove the effectiveness of these strategies, a three-phase interleaved boost converter prototype was used in the experiments.","PeriodicalId":325413,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Diagnostics for Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives (SDEMPED)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130504869","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While the measurement of transformer FRA signatures has been standardized since the development of advanced frequency response analyzers, interpretation of the FRA signature which is provided as a graphical plot is still challenging. At this stage there is no interpretation code for FRA signatures published and widely accepted yet. To develop such codes, impact of various mechanical deformations on the FRA signature must be well investigated and fully understood through simulation analysis and practical measurements. For simulation analysis, a reliable high frequency transformer model is essential. This paper presents a state space representation for a high frequency transformer model in which the physical meaning of the model parameters facilitates the identification of the problem within the transformer. Various mechanical faults are simulated into the model to investigate their impacts on the FRA signature.","PeriodicalId":325413,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Diagnostics for Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives (SDEMPED)","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133791799","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed method is based on a single signal measurement, deployed on a Fuzzy Inference System (FIS), and can be implemented on a micro-processor for near real-time diagnosis of the unbalanced positioning of a sensor. The designed FIS was evaluated in a wide range of misplacement angles and its ability to determine both low and high error values was verified.
