The Long Term Evolution (LTE) systems give a more flexible configuration of Tracking Area (TA) design by means of Tracking Area List (TAL). Being a novel concept, TAL goes beyond the capability of the conventional TA approach. Although TAL is expected to be able to reduce the overall signaling overhead by overcoming a couple of major limitations of the conventional TA concept, how to apply TAL in large scale networks, remains unexplored. In this paper, we present a novel approach for allocating and assigning TA lists. The approach does not require any data other than what is needed for conventional TA design. We present numerical results to illustrate the approach for a realistic network of Lisbon city. The experiments demonstrate the ability of TAL in reducing the signaling overhead compared to the conventional TA concept.","PeriodicalId":325246,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 71st Vehicular Technology Conference","volume":"121 5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128491204","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A utility based adaptive scheduling algorithm is proposed, which aims to maximize user satisfaction as well as system spectral efficiency. Joint optimal carriers and spatial subchannels allocation is considered based on the proposed utility function, and two factors ratio and w are introduced in order to differentiate QoS and users. Moreover, a suboptimal solution is also presented for the sake of decreasing computational complexity and processing delay. Simulation results show that the proposed strategy can guarantee QoS of multiple services with a tolerable decline in terms of spectral effciency compared with traditional maximum carrier/interference (MCI) algorithm. Besides, the complexity can be reduced obviously by utilizing the suboptimal scheme, which achieves nearly the same performance compared with the optimal solution.","PeriodicalId":325246,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 71st Vehicular Technology Conference","volume":"138 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128738091","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Assuming that the channel remains constant during a few consecutive OFDM blocks, the new method uses the correlations of the pilot symbols in these consecutive OFDM blocks. And an iterative concept is also employed to reduce the inter-carrier interference (ICI) that deteriorates the CFO estimation performance. After a few iterations, the proposed method can achieve the accuracy with no ICI. The mean square error (MSE) of the new method is analyzed and simulation results show the new method outperforms existing methods.","PeriodicalId":325246,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 71st Vehicular Technology Conference","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126993071","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we propose a Reception-rate-tracking Opportunistic Multicast Scheduling (ROMS) to enhance the performance of scalable IPTV layered multicasting over WiMAX networks. The proposed ROMS jointly considers the subscriber scheduling and resource allocation to achieve resource efficient multicasting. The technique provides scope for using the ultra wideband bandwidth efficiently by exploiting the available link margin for short range communications. The bandwidth of 500 MHz or more is divided into a fixed number of sub-bands. The data transmission scheme over multiple sub-bands can be designed to achieve higher data rate, higher reliability or support multi-user access. The SUWB system facilitates low power implementations by reducing the sampling rate requirements and also by the use of an orthogonal spreading code based interference rejection and multi-path cancellation receiver. The SUWB system avoids the need for individual down-conversion and filtering of the sub-bands. The requisite properties of the spreading codes are also provided. The simulation results in terms of the BER performance of the method for the IEEE 802.15.4a channel models are presented. The desirable performance is obtained for low and medium delay spread channels even without employing any equalization method.","PeriodicalId":325246,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 71st Vehicular Technology Conference","volume":"36 3","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121011352","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A generic path loss model which includes the effects of spatially correlated shadowing is assumed. A weighted likelihood (WL) estimator is proposed, which can be seen as a simplified minimum mean square error (MMSE) estimator. This estimator can be used for localizing a source in a static scenario or it can provide the initial position estimate of a tracking algorithm. The performance of the WL estimator is simulated, and robustness to erroneous assumptions about path loss exponent, shadowing variance and correlation distance is demonstrated.","PeriodicalId":325246,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 71st Vehicular Technology Conference","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114202707","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
