We propose a frequency domain minimum mean square error (MMSE)-based turbo packet combining scheme where all slots received signals and their corresponding channel frequency responses (CFR)s are used to decode the data packet. We also provide an efficient recursive implementation way for the proposed scheme, and show that both its computational complexity and memory requirements are quite insensitive to the number of relays in the system. For the special case of cooperative automatic repeat request (ARQ) systems, we introduce an adaptive packet combining algorithm that enable to reduce the receiver implementation cost. Block error rate (BLER) performance are provided to demonstrate the gains offered by the proposed combining scheme over the conventional soft information-based combining.","PeriodicalId":325246,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 71st Vehicular Technology Conference","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116198875","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Existing ICI countermeasures usually address a few dominant ICI terms only and treat the residual as similar to white noise. We show that the residual ICI has high normalized autocorrelation and that this normalized autocorrelation is insensitive to the maximum Doppler frequency and the multipath channel profile, among other things. The residual ICI can thus be whitened in a largely channel-independent manner, leading to significantly improved detection performance. Simulation results confirm the theoretical analysis. In particular, they show that the proposed technique can lower the ICI-induced error floor by several orders of magnitude in maximum-likelihood sequence estimation (MLSE) designed to address a few dominant ICI terms.","PeriodicalId":325246,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 71st Vehicular Technology Conference","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116270818","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this problem multiple interfering MIMO links are active within the service range of a Primary Radio Network (PR-Net) for which, unlike in conventional design problems, the Channel State Information (CSI) is not known perfectly. The imperfection in CSI is modeled using norm-bounded uncertainty matrices. The design problem is formulated to provide the minimum Sum-Mean Square Error (SMSE) of all the links while the transmit power of Secondary Users (SUs) is limited and the amount of interfering power toward the Primary users (PUs) is controlled. This problem is not convex, because its objective function is non-convex in nature and it has semi-infinite robust constraints. To overcome these limitations an iterative solution, which is based on the relaxed version of this problem, is provided. The problem is then solved numerically. Finally simulation results are provided to demonstrate the performance of this method.","PeriodicalId":325246,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 71st Vehicular Technology Conference","volume":"178 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116309179","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we present a routing protocol for opportunistic forwarding that dynamically create candidate priority forwarding lists without the need for any explicit control information in data packet headers, and determines and distributes link probability information. The routing protocol is both modular and powerful enough to be used as the routing information creating entity for most existing opportunistic schemes, as well as future new schemes. These properties makes our protocol an ideal candidate for a common opportunistic forwarding reference framework. We use our framework to develop a Multi-Rate Opportunistic Routing with Congestion Diversity (MORCD) protocol for routing packets in congested networks and utilize availability of multiple rates to further improve throughput. We show that the type of routing scheme optimal for a certain scenario depends on how much diversity the network topology is able to provide, the amount of fading, and the amount of traffic as well as interference that exists in the network. By having a modular routing protocol, it is therefore possible to configure the protocol to use the most appropriate scheme and make it work efficiently under many different situations and scenarios.","PeriodicalId":325246,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 71st Vehicular Technology Conference","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116319670","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While a number of detailed path loss, shadowing and fast fading models can be found in literature, many of them entail large computational efforts and hence lead to long simulation times, or require huge amounts of memory. In this paper, we focus on shadowing models with two-dimensional correlation properties. We present handover performance evaluations as a use case from which requirements to the modeling of the shadow fading are derived. For different implementations of the shadow fading in system level simulations, we discuss their pros and cons and then focus on the sum of sinusoid model proposed by Cai and Giannakis [1]. Our main contribution lies in a new frequency sampling method to determine the coefficients of the sinusoidal waveforms. We show that this new method, denoted as Power Sampling Method (PSM), allows for a significant reduction of the number of sinusoids while the correlation properties of the shadow fading channel are preserved.","PeriodicalId":325246,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 71st Vehicular Technology Conference","volume":"227 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121628253","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, a novel extension called the multiplexed CSOK (MCSOK) MC-CDMA system is proposed to further increase the data rate while maintaining a low peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR). First, the data stream is divided into multiple parallel substreams that are mapped into QPSK-CSOK symbols in terms of cyclic shifted Chu sequences. Second, these sequences are repeated, modulated, summed, and placed on IFFT subcarriers, resulting in a constant-modulus multiplexed signal that preserves the desired orthogonality among substreams. The receiver performs frequency-domain equalization, and uses an efficient demultiplexing, despreading, and demapping schemes to detect the modulation symbols. Simulation results show that the proposed MCSOK system attains lower PAPR and BER, as compared to conventional MC-CDMA system using Walsh codes.","PeriodicalId":325246,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 71st Vehicular Technology Conference","volume":"88 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121753419","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed algorithm selects the optimal beacon nodes for high localization accuracy by employing the hop count threshold to limit the distances between nodes and using collinearity degree to restrict topology relations between nodes. When the localization error of the located node is under the error threshold, it is nominated as new beacon to help the remaining unknown nodes to re-locate themselves, namely to expand localization coverage by iterative cooperation. Simulation results demonstrate that ICDV-Hop algorithm is more effective to improve the localization accuracy and coverage. Moreover, it is more reliable and robust compared to the traditional DV-Hop, especially when the ratio of beacon nodes is low and the network topology is sparse.","PeriodicalId":325246,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 71st Vehicular Technology Conference","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124481318","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An algorithm which can search for all pure Nash Equilibrium (NE) solutions is presented. We study how the number of pure NEs grows when either the size of the network or the number of available channels gets higher. Myopic play of a game, in which the players take turn to choose its best response strategy, is a common approach to obtain one of these NE solutions, if the algorithm converges. However, we found that for myopic play of the game, the probability of convergence to the NE which has the desired best global utility is not guaranteed. We further propose two player ordering schemes to study how the probability of hitting the best global solution among all possible NEs is affected. We find that by allowing the node with the lowest \"expected\" utility to decide first increases the chance of hitting the NE solution with better utility value.","PeriodicalId":325246,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 71st Vehicular Technology Conference","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124498431","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
