In this study, the types of expressive speech acts and language politeness principles were described which were used by Indonesian language teachers in class VII 1 of Padang State Middle School 34. Data collection is done by referring to the method. The method of referencing is listening to the use of language to obtain lingual data. The techniques used in this study are (1) recording technique, is a listening activity using a recording device, (2) recording technique, is the activity of recording data that has been recorded. Based on the data analysis conducted it can be concluded as follows. First, the results of this study indicate that Indonesian language teachers in class VII 1 of SMP Negeri 34 Padang used six types of expressive speech acts, namely expressive speech criticizing, expressive speech acts praising, expressive speech acts blaming, expressive speech acts thanking, speech acts expressive condolences, and expressive speech acts apologize. The most dominant speech act found is expressive speech criticism and the least is expressive speech act apologizing. Secondly, the politeness principle of Indonesian language teachers in class VII 1 of SMP Negeri 34 Padang uses the maxim of generosity, maxim of wisdom, maxim of appreciation, maxim of consensus, maxim of simplicity, and maxim of conclusions. The most dominant method used by Indonesian teachers in class VII 1 is the maxim of generosity and the most used is the maxim of conclusions. The method used in this research is descriptive method. Based on the results of the study, the values of character education studied in the short story of the Singgalang Daily newspaper were found. First, the short stories contained in the Singgalang Daily newspaper contain eighteen values of character education, namely the value of religious character education, honesty, tolerance, discipline, hard work, creative, democratic, independent, curiosity, national spirit, love for the country , appreciates achievement, is friendly/communicative, loves peace, likes to read, cares about the environment, cares for the social, and takes responsibility. Second, the value of character education that often arises is the value of friendly/ communicative character education. Third, character education values that rarely emerge are the spirit of nationalism, love of peace, and love to read. This type of research is quantitative with analytical descriptive method. Research sampling is done by purposive sampling technique. The instrument used to collect data in this study is the performance test, which is writing short story texts. The research data ini the form of short story writing skills using the master copy technique and mind mapping technique. The research data collection technique is by analyzing students short story writing skills by apllying the master copy technique and mind mapping technique. Indicators used to assess short story writing skills, namely structure, instrinsic elements, and linguistic elements. Based on the result of the study, it can be concluded that. First, short story writing skills using the master copy the technique of the eleventh grade students of Padang Panjang public high school 2 are in good qualification because the average value of short story text writing skills using the master copy technique is 82.07. Second, short story writing skills using mind mapping techniques of the eleventh grade students of Padang Panjang 2 high school are in excellent qualifications because the average value of short story writing skills using mind mapping technique is 88.26. This type of research is quantitative with descriptive methods and correlational design. This research sample amounted to 49 people. This research data is in the form of scores of apreciprocative reading skills tests and scores of test-writing skills for short-story text. The data, obtained through two types of tests, is an objective test to measure the test of apresiative reading skills and test performance to measure the writing skills of short story text. Based on data analysis and discussion, the following three things are concluded. First, the skill of reading the appreciative of class XI MAN students 3 Padang is in good qualification (78.81). Secondly, the writing skills of the text of the student's class XI MAN 3 Padang is in good qualification (81.04). Thirdly, there is a significant connection between the apresiative reading skills with the writing skills of the short-text short story at a significantly 95% level with dk = n-1. Based on the results of the research and analysis of data, it was concluded that there is a significant link between the reading skills of the appreciative with the writing skills of the text students of Class XI MAN 3 Padang because thitung > ttabel is 3.12 > 1.67. This research aims to (1) describe politeness strategies in the Dilan 1990 movie; (2) describe the politeness principle of language in the film Dilan 1990; and (3) describe the language context in the Dilan 1990 movie. This type of research is qualitative with descriptive methods. The data of this research are speeches expressed by Dilan’s Mother and Milea which contain politeness strategies, politeness principles, and contexts in the Dilan 1990 movie, analyzing data with the following steps. The first stage, identifying data based on strategy. The second stage, classifies data based on the principle of politeness. The third stage, identifying data based on context. The fourth stage analyzes and discusses research data in accordance with the theory used. The fifth, draws conclusions, namely formulating a repetitive pattern of strategies, principles of politeness, and context. Based on the results of the research it was concluded: (1) the number of data included in the strategy to speak frankly without further ado more than any other speaking strategy; (2) the maxims used in this study are wisdom macism, generosity maxim, praise maxim, and agreement maxim; (3) the speech of Dilan’s Mother and Milea in the Dilan 1990 movie is polite speech. Theories related to this research there are four theories, namely (a) understanding of short story text, (b) short story text structure, (c) elements in short story text, and (d) short story text style. The type of research used is qualitative research using descriptive methods. The data of this study are the results of the writing of the students of class XI MIPA 4 SMAN 11 Padang in the form of short stories totaling 33 short stories. The technique for validating the data used is a thick description. Data were analyzed using simple statistical descriptive techniques and qualitative analysis using formats. Based on the results of the study can be concluded,first, short story text by students of class XI MIPA 4 SMAN 11 Padang are more dominantly built on five structures, namely abstract, orientation, complications, evaluation, and resolution. It can be interpreted that the short story text by students of class XI MIPA 4 SMAN 11 Padang is not complex text structures. Second, short story text by students of class XI MIPA 4 SMAN 11 Padang dominantly using advanced plot. Third, short story text by students of class XI MIPA 4 SMAN 11 Padang then to use three types of language styles, namely hyperbolic style, personification, and simile. First, to describe the reading skills in understanding the short story of the second-year students at SMK Negeri 9 Padang. Second, to describe the writing skills of a short story for the second year students at SMK Negeri 9 Padang. Third, to describe the contribution of reading short story comprehension into the writing skills of a short story made by the second year students of SMK Negeri 9 Padang. The design of this research was quantitative with a descriptive method. Then, this study also was a correlational design. The population of this study was the second - grade students at SMK Negeri 9 Padang in the academic year 2018/2019 for about 232 students. The sample of this study was taken by using a proportional random sampling technique (20%), which was 46 students. The data of this study were the results of reading skills tests for understanding short story texts and the results of the text writing short story texts. The instrument of this study was an objective test to measure reading skills in understanding short story texts and performance tests to measure short story texts writing skills. There were several results of this study. First, the writing skill of the short story text of the second-year students at SMK Negeri Padang was more than adequate (LdC). Second, reading skills understanding the short text of the second-year students at SMK Negeri 9 Padang was in a Good qualification (B). Third, reading skills understanding the short story of the second-year students at SMK Negeri 9 Padang contributed 72.1% to the short story writing skills of the second year students of SMK Negeri 9 Padang. This type of research is qualitative research with descriptive methods. The data source in this research is the No Place Like Home novel by Alma Aridatha. The results of the research were found as participants. First, there are seven intrinsic elements in Alma Aridatha's No Place Like Home novel, namely themes, characterizations, background, plot, point of view, language style, and mandate. Second, there are four values of love in Alma Aridatha's No Place Like Home novel, namely (1) 12 data the values of love for God; (2) 37 data the values of love for the family; (3) 12 data the values of love for others; and (4) 11 data the values of love for oneself. Third, the implementation of the value of love in Alma Aridatha's No Place Like Home novel in novel text learning class XII high school students 2013 curriculum with basic competencies related to three aspects of assessment, namely the assessment of knowledge, attitudes, and skills. Based on the results of the research, it is expected that the teacher suggests the No Place Like Home novel by Alma Aridatha which is easily understood by students in novel text learning in high school so that learning objectives are achieved. First, describing the students’ understanding of short story of eleventh grade students of SMAN 2 Batang Anai. Second, describing the students’ writing ability of short story. Third, describing the correlation between students’ understanding short story and their writing ability of short story of eleventh grade students of SMAN 2 Batang Anai. The type of this research was quantitative with descriptive method. The design used in this study was correlational design. The population of this study was the eleventh grade students of SMAN 2 Batang Anai academic year 2018/2019, which was 195 students. The sample in this study was determined by propotional random sampling of 20% of participation, which is 40 students. The results of this study were devided into three. First, the ability to understand the short story text of eleventh grade students of SMAN 2 Batang Anai was in accordance with good qualifications (B). Second, the students’ writing ability of eleventh grade students of SMAN 2 Batang Anai in accordance with the qualifications weremore than enough (LdC). Third, there was a correlation between students’ understanding short story and their writing ability of short story of eleventh grade students of SMAN 2 Batang Anai with a degree of freedom n-1 at the level of 95% confidence. Tcount (4.50) was biggerthan t table (1.68), that was tcount> t table (4.50> 1.68) thus H0 was rejected and H1 was accepted because the test results prove that tcount was bigger than t table.
