The wide geographical distribution of Arabic has paved the way for the emergence of many different dialects. With the birth of Islam, changes occurred in the structure of Arabic, and thus new concepts were formed in the language. Some words used in the period of ignorance left their place for new words. Arabic, which was unique to the Arabian Peninsula before Islam, was transferred to distant lands and countries where different languages are spoken. As a result of this, depending on the sciences and arts that emerged within the Islamic civilization, Arabic has continued its development in the process that continues until today. As a result of the wide interaction of the Arab society with the spread of Islam, ancient Arabic dialects and accents came to light. Among the difficulties encountered in modern Arabic teaching today, the differences in the use of dialect come to the fore. It is known that many words and expressions used in fluent Arabic, especially in the teaching process of Arabic speaking skills, differ in the use of the dialect known as “Ammice”. At the beginning of these dialects is the Syrian Arabic dialect. It is important to learn the dialect that is widely used in the region in order to meet the various communication needs of the Syrian people, especially the social interaction with the Syrian refugees living in our country. In this study, the general characteristics of the Syrian Arabic dialect and its common usage examples in daily life will be given. The study aims at examining the challenges faced by students and proposing several solutions from a High-Qualified English studies program during online learning amid Coronavirus. The researcher used quantitative and qualitative methods by using a questionnaire and conducting an interview via the Zoom application. Participants consist of one hundred sixty students from a High-Qualified English studies program, and ten interviewees who are fourth-year students at the School of Foreign Languages, Can Tho University. Findings show that the percentage of participants disclosed desirable viewpoints of the conventional classrooms compared to the virtual classrooms. In addition, students were highly contended with feedback and the clarity of teachers for tough questions and using sufficient resources. In contrast, participants claimed that they witnessed the considerable challenges and assumed that Zoom and Microsoft Teams were the two applications hindering students’ access. Noticeably, students encountered several five main challenges. Specifically, the difficulties in technology and connectivity students using incompatible devices and weak internet coverage. In terms of the economic problems, they had to buy high degree of data packages. Also, the psychological issues related to the considerable decrease in motivation, interaction, distractions, or shying of turning on their camera, and health issues in terms of eye strains and headaches while implementing online learning in the long run. However, participants revealed a positive learning attitude towards their online learning process by proposing diverse solutions regarding enhancing the interaction among teachers and students, being fully equipped in literacy skills, and using diverse video conferencing platforms. Also, teachers can reduce learning time by giving break time to avoid several physical issues such as eyes training, and headaches. Also, teachers can create tremendous workshops or seminars sharing where students can share their virtual learning experiences and manipulate diverse digital applications. Moreover, teachers can design vivid videos and diverse content materials which attract learners' attention. This study hopes to help students gain a positive outlook on the importance of online learning, and help teachers understand students' perceptions during their online learning process. Finally, the researcher gives several recommendations for further research. It aims at identifying, analyzing and interpreting the different speech acts in the selected play for the purpose of decoding meanings. The results show that through representative acts the author has depicted thoroughly heinous practices that affect negatively the development of African countries. Through directive, he is inviting political authorities to look at the pitiful state of their countries. Through commissive, he is indicating how governments should commit themselves to take measures to clean up public services. Expressive acts have enabled him to express sorrow and feeling of desperation in regards to the pitiful state of African countries. Through declarative, he indicates how immediate changes can be operated by sentencing all guilty authorities to many years of imprisonment. These results have enabled the researcher to contend that the author has directly and indirectly depicted African countries in general and more specifically Nigeria as characterized by embezzlement, drug dealing, bribery and corruption, abuse of the public offices, betrayal of people’s trust. The data of the study were collected by means of a Discourse completion Task Questionnaire that was administered to two groups of university students. The findings show that the participants used a wide range of direct and indirect apology strategies and that the apology utterances mostly occurred in speech act sets, which generally involved combinations of direct and indirect apologies and supportive acts. The results also reveal the use of nominal address terms, codeswitching and some indigenized patterns of French to modify the illocutionary force of apologies. Overall, the linguistic and pragmatic choices made by the respondents varied according to degree of familiarity and power distance between the interlocutors. Irony as a cognitive-pragmatic concept represents the discrepancy between more than one level of meaning which is conceptualized through the mapping between the source and the target levels. A model which mixes cognitive and pragmatic treatment to irony has been developed in this study and has been used to analyze Trump’s political tweets. The analysis of representative tweets for Trump has revealed certain conclusions which are relevant to politics. The most significant finding is that irony is an important strategy used in politics as it is significantly related to different levels of language such as congruity and discrepancy whose implications are only accessed through the mapping between the source and target domains of meaning.<p> </p><p><strong> Article visualizations:</strong></p><p><img src=\"/-counters-/edu_01/0964/a.php\" alt=\"Hit counter\" /></p>","PeriodicalId":321145,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Applied Linguistics Studies","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125475857","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, developing information literacy curriculum for learners who speak English as a foreign language is of critical concern for librarians and English as a Foreign Language: EFL educators. However, in general, there is limited research about learners' information literacy experiences in English writing educational contexts. Therefore, this research fills a gap in the research, as it focuses on investigating the effects of EFL teachers’ use of the Information literacy model - Big6 on learners' argumentative writing. In this research, a mixed method combined both quantitative and qualitative designs was conducted to collect and analyze the data, including a pre-test and a post-test, questionnaires, classroom observations and semi- structured interviews. The findings show that there is a statistically significant difference between the writing performances at two time points of the experimental group who was taught English with information literacy skills. In addition, the findings indicate that EFL teachers and learners became more aware of the integration of information literacy skills into their teaching argumentative writing to learners. Key issues about training provision in this area were examined, and options of developing information literacy support for EFL learners were also discussed. \u0000 \u0000 Article visualizations:","PeriodicalId":321145,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Applied Linguistics Studies","volume":"100 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124878201","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Data was collected from a sample of ten (10) pupils from ages 1-5 spanning the accepted age range for pupils to be in preschool in Ghana. Productions of the participants on words were recorded and later analyzed to determine the phonological processes present. It was found that the phonological processes that characterized the speech of the sample are syllable structure processes (e.g. cluster reduction); substitutions; and insertions. Further, it was found that age has a role to play in the presence of phonological processes in the speech of an individual. It was found however that some of the pupils were able to correctly articulate sounds when they were repeated to them. The study recommends that this study be extended to other school children in the country as well as teachers and other stakeholders towards ensuring the school-going children learn English pronunciation the right way. \u0000 \u0000 Article visualizations:","PeriodicalId":321145,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Applied Linguistics Studies","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121553580","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
