It is characterized by a functional role that seeks to enforce justice even if the offender is outside the jurisdiction of the judicial state. This law of agreement has attempted to activate this role with a view to expanding the scope of regional protection against the threat of terrorist crime and overcoming the difficulties of multiple jurisdictions among states. It seeks to achieve this through an integrated legal system in accordance with mechanisms that enable the state that waives its jurisdiction and the state that is requested to preside over a case to establish criminal justice rules.","PeriodicalId":31692,"journal":{"name":"Arab Journal of Forensic Sciences Forensic Medicine","volume":"21 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87301344","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Forensically, the assessment of survived cases is usually based on the external findings and several subjective elements such as reports from the involved persons and witnesses. Therefore, the need for more objective methods is crucial for forensic experts. Clinical computed tomography (CT) is sufficiently advanced to provide detailed descriptions of the internal structures. This study aims to evaluate the use of CT in survived and non-survived cases of laryngotracheal trauma. A total of five patients were included in this study (4 survived cases and one deceased). Information and data were collected retrospectively from medical records; radiological images were analyzed. The study involved three cases with injuries which resulted from blunt trauma caused by an alleged boating accident and sporting accidents, as well as two cases with injuries as a result of medical malpractice. During history taking, type of injury may help in early diagnosis and fast provision of treatment to patients. Blunt types of injury may require the help of CT more than acute injuries for early diagnosis and treatment.","PeriodicalId":31692,"journal":{"name":"Arab Journal of Forensic Sciences Forensic Medicine","volume":"107 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72442484","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aims to evaluate autopsybased causes of death in such cases. All autopsy deaths in children less than 15 years of age in which homicide was suspected from January 2001 to December 2015 were retrospectively reviewed. Their bio-data, circumstances surrounding death and cause of death were extracted, and presented in this report. In the 15 years reviewed, there were 55 pediatric homicide related cases. Based on autopsy findings (coupled with clinical and circumstantial evidences), manners of death were classified as natural (34%), accidental (31%), homicidal (9%) and unascertainable in the remaining 26% of the cases. The study highlights the need for forensic pathologists working in developing countries to be actively involved in all stages of investigating cases of suspected pediatric homicide.","PeriodicalId":31692,"journal":{"name":"Arab Journal of Forensic Sciences Forensic Medicine","volume":"30 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77335203","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The injury pattern and socio-demographic profile of IPV in Sri Lanka may show variations to that seen in a western society due to socio-cultural differences. The objective of this study was to identify the injury pattern and the socio-demographic aspects of IPV in a Sri Lankan context. All the victims of IPV presented to the Teaching Hospital Peradeniya, Peradeniya, Sri Lanka from 2006 to 2011 were included in this study. There were 226 cases of IPV of which 96% were female. The majority were married and living together. They were less than 30 years of age, unemployed, with more than 2 children, had a poor education and were in the early phase of marriage. Seventy-two percent experienced physical violence resulting in contusions (72%) and abrasions (42%). A significant proportion (11%) did not have any visible injuries. The commonest area of injury was upper limbs (63%) with the head and face being involved in 54% of the cases. The majority (84%) were non grievous injuries inflicted by bare hands (58%) and feet (13%). Profiling of such victims would enable social and community workers to identify this vulnerable group for early intervention and prevention of such occurrences.","PeriodicalId":31692,"journal":{"name":"Arab Journal of Forensic Sciences Forensic Medicine","volume":"34 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85410800","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Diazinon and IMHP were extracted from postmortem samples with a liquid/liquid method and analyzed by gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC/MS). By comparing to diazinon standard and matching the retention time, diazinon was detected in two visceral organs, the stomach (0.89 μg/g) and the small intestine (8.80 μg/g). The highest level of diazinon was detected in the small intestine (8.80 μg/g), whereas the highest amount of IMHP was noted in the kidney (0.84 Area %) and bladder (0.75 Area %). In conclusion, determination of IMHP in postmortem samples could be used as an indicator for diazinon exposure, especially in the case of delayed death; whereas, the small intestine could be the best source of sample in diazinon assessment in cases of fatal diazinon ingestion.","PeriodicalId":31692,"journal":{"name":"Arab Journal of Forensic Sciences Forensic Medicine","volume":"380 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80663455","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A sample of 230 volunteers (100 males and 130 females) of Nigerian parentage, aged 18 – 36 years comprised this cross-sectional study. Stature and 460 bi-lateral shoe prints were obtained from the participants using a stadiometer and ink pads. Data analysis was performed using SPSS version 20. Sexual dimorphism in stature and shoe print dimensions were found to be highly significant (p < 0.05), with the males having greater values than the females. Paired t test revealed statistically significant bi-lateral differences in shoe print dimensions for the females and the pooled sample (p < 0.05). The right shoe print length (RSPL) exhibited the highest correlation with stature in the males, females and the pooled sample, with values of 0.483, 0.607 and 0.772, respectively. The shoe print breadths in the males, females and the pooled sample were significantly correlated with stature, except the left shoe print breadth (LSPB) in the females (r = 0.148). This study has demonstrated that shoe print dimensions are significantly correlated with stature, with the shoe print length showing more reliability in stature prediction than the shoe print breadth.","PeriodicalId":31692,"journal":{"name":"Arab Journal of Forensic Sciences Forensic Medicine","volume":"49 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77172905","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A lip print found at the crime scene can help reveal the identity of the persons involved. The present study focuses on the differentiation of lip prints according to sex and studies the distribution of lip print patterns in various communities of the Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh, India. A total of 400 samples of lip prints were collected from males and females of age group 18-24 years, belonging to Brahmins and Yadavs from the Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh. The most prevalent was Type I lip print in Brahmin males and Type II in Brahmin females, whereas Type III pattern was the most common in Yadav males and females. When Lip patterns were statistically evaluated based on the sex differences in Brahmins, Type II and I patterns may help in sex determination. Whereas, when the data is compared between males and females of Yadavs, Type III lip print had high predominance in comparison to other patterns but may not help in sex determination.","PeriodicalId":31692,"journal":{"name":"Arab Journal of Forensic Sciences Forensic Medicine","volume":"1648 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76283919","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
