METHODS: Running Economy is the energy demand at a submaximal running velocity. Players were divided into 6 subgroups. Soccer: defenders, midfielders, and strikers; futsal: defenders, wingers, and pivots. Elite soccer players (n=129) and elite futsal players n=72 performed an incremental running test starting at 8.4 km.h-1 with increments of 1.2 km.h-1 every two minutes on a treadmill until exhaustion. Running Economy was determined by interpolation between ventilatory thresholds 1 and 2 (VT1 and VT2). RESULTS: Running Economy (measured as mL.kg-1.km-1) was compared between the playing positions in the two team sports. In soccer, running economy was 222.7 (defenders), 227.0 (midfielders), and 219.8 (strikers) mL.kg-1. km-1, respectively. In futsal, the corresponding values were 198.5 (defenders), 196.9 (wingers), and 190.5 (pivots) mL.kg-1.km-1, respectively. We no found significantly differences between the three positions in both sports. The Running Economy of futsal players was 12.5% better than that of soccer players. Running Economy correlated positively with oxygen uptake at VT2 in both sports and in all positions. CONCLUSION: Futsal players exhibited better Running Economy than soccer players; this should be considered as a factor in the athlete’s training plan.","PeriodicalId":31471,"journal":{"name":"Medical Express","volume":"4 1","pages":"1-2"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47343885","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This work aimed to evaluate the frequency of occurrence of the ancestry Indicative Markers SB-19.3, APO, AT3 / ID and PV-92 and to determine the existence of polymorphisms for these markers in the state of Mato Grosso. METHOD: The study aimed to estimate allelic and genotype frequencies, adherence to the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium and genetic differentiation in the sample of 238 controls formed by HIV free individuals residing in twenty-six different municipalities in the state, collected at the Júlio Muller University Hospital and in a sample of 516 HIV-positive patients also residing in the state. RESULTS: The Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium test revealed an imbalance between the observed and expected proportions of Sb19.3 and APO loci in the control population. Applying the genetic differentiation test, control populations and HIV-positive patients differed for the four loci analyzed. CONCLUSION: The population of the state of Mato Grosso, Brazil proved to be very heterogeneous, confirming hypotheses about its history of colonization. Control populations and HIV-positive patients differed for the four loci analyzed.","PeriodicalId":31471,"journal":{"name":"Medical Express","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49633688","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

METHOD: STMN1 , MELK and FOXM1 expressions were studied by quantitative PCR and their coexpressions were analyzed in two independent glioblastoma cohorts. A review of articles in indexed journals that addressed the multiple functional aspects of STMN1 was conducted, focusing on the most recent reports discussing its role in cancer, in chemoresistance and in upstream pathways involving MELK and FOXM1 . RESULTS: Significant associated expressions of MELK and FOXM1 were observed with STMN1 in GBM. Additionally, the literature review highlighted the relevance of STMN1 in cancer progression. CONCLUSION: STMN1 is very important to induce events in cancer development and progression, as cellular proliferation, migration, and drug resistance. Therefore, STMN1 can be an important therapeutic target for a large number of human cancers. In glioblastoma, the most aggressive brain tumor, the MELK / FOXM1 / STMN1 presented significant associated expressions, thus pointing MELK and FOXM1 as alternative targets for therapy instead of STMN1 , which is highly expressed in normal brain tissue. Continuous functional research to understand the STMN1 signaling pathway is worthwhile to improve the therapeutic approaches in cancer. glioblastoma.","PeriodicalId":31471,"journal":{"name":"Medical Express","volume":"4 1","pages":"1-10"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43080207","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

METHOD: Thirty-two rats were randomly divided into four groups, eight per group: (CT): untreated controls, (CER) treated with cerulein, 50 μg/kg body weight; (Q+CER) pre-treatment with quercetin, 100 mg/kg body weight, followed by cerulein, 50 μg/kg; (CER+Q) post-treatment, cerulein followed by quercetin, same doses. Cerulein was divided into four doses, given at 1-hour intervals by intraperitoneal injection. Quercetin was given either 1-hour before (in pre-treatment group) or 1-hour after (in post-treatment group) cerulein. Pancreatic malondialdehyde (MDA), carbonyl, myeloperoxidase (MPO), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-a), interleukin-6 (IL-6), reduced and oxidized glutathione (GSH and GSSG, respectively) were measured. Histology of the pancreas was studied. RESULTS: (1) MDA, carbonyl, MPO, TNF-a and IL-6 levels were significantly higher in CER vs CT rats. (2) MDA, carbonyl, MPO and TNF-α decreased significantly in pre-treated rats vs. CER. (3) MDA, MPO, TNF-α, IL-6 were significantly lower in post-treated rats vs. CER. (4) The reduced vs. oxidized glutathione ratio (GSH/GSSG) of was significantly lower CER vs. CT rats. (5) Preand post-treatment with quercetin significantly increased this ratio. (6) Pancreatic histology showed that quercetin had no significant effect on the histological image of the pancreas CONCLUSION: These results suggest that quercetin can attenuate the severity of cerulein-induced acute pancreatitis by acting as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent and combating oxidative stress. Further studies are needed to clearly explain its utility on acute pancreatitis.","PeriodicalId":31471,"journal":{"name":"Medical Express","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.5935/MEDICALEXPRESS.2017.05.02","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42386069","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

METODO: Tratou-se de um estudo transversal, baseado na analise dos movimentos mensais das vacinas estudadas durante um ano, por meio de planilhas e de questionarios aplicados em 45 salas de vacinacao urbanas. Um modelo de regressao linear foi desenvolvido, tentando prever perdas vacinais por meio de variaveis de infra-estrutura e funcionamento das salas. RESULTADOS: Foi detectada significância estatistica para o modelo ROTA, variaveis: conhecimento sobre vacinas, tipo de unidade e numero de funcionarios que atuam na sala de vacina (R2=0,33; p = 0,001). Constatou-se 1254 doses perdidas de ROTA e 33762 de VTV durante o periodo pesquisado. Das 1254 doses perdidas de ROTA, 331 (26,4%) foram devidas a Perdas Tecnicas, e 923 (73,6%) a Perdas Diversas. Para a vacina VTV, das 33762 doses perdidas, 23281 (68,96%) foram por Perdas Tecnicas, e 10481 (31,04%) por Perdas Diversas. Nos examinamos a prevalencia de todos os sorotipos do estreptococo do grupo B em amostras de swabs vaginal e retal obtidas de 363 mulheres seguidas em um centro de referencia brasileiro, o Hospital da Mulher Professor Doutor Jose Aristodemo Pinotti; a susceptibilidade bacteriana a antibioticos foi tambem determinada. METODO A prevalencia de estreptococo do grupo B positivo foi avaliada por aglutinacao em latex e atraves de analise por multiplex PCR; susceptibilidade bacteriana a antibioticos, tais como clindamicina, eritromicina, levofloxacin, linezolide, penicilina e tetraciclina foi determinada pelo metodo de disco difusao. RESULTADOS: (a) Tanto a cultura padrao para estreptococo do grupo B quanto a analise por multiplex PCR testaram positivos para 83 swabs. A prevalencia para colonizacao por GBS foi 20%. O sorotipo Ia foi o mais prevalente (n= 43/83; 52%), seguido pelo sorotipo V (n= 14/83; 17%); De acordo com a origem anatomica, o sorotipo Ia positivou 27/59 (46%) e 16/24 (67%) das amostras vaginais e retais, respectivamente; o teste de PCR tambem identificou os sorotipos Ib, II, III, VI. O sorotipo VI e raramente descrito e nao reportado no Brasil ou na America Latina ate esta data. (b) O teste de aglutinacao em latex somente identificou 44 amostras positivas, todas das quais foram sorotipadas: 34 destas amostras (77%) tiveram os sorotipos coincidindo com aqueles identificados pela multiplex PCR. (c) Somente uma amostra (sorotipo Ia) mostrou resistencia a eritromicina e clindamicina. CONCLUSAO: Estudos regionais sobre a prevalencia dos sorotipos do estreptococo do grupo B sao essenciais para guiar medidas imunoprofilaticas (vacinas) e a implementacao de adequada antibiotico profilaxia. Neste estudo, a incidencia do sorotipo VI foi descrita pela primeira vez na populacao Brasileira, um novo e raro sorotipo do estreptococo do grupo B.","PeriodicalId":31471,"journal":{"name":"Medical Express","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42583373","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Sabemos agora que e uma doenca pandemica, explicada em parte pelo chamado estilo de vida ocidental e relacionado a multiplas outras comorbidades em varios sistemas. O referido estilo de vida inclui comer grandes porcoes, ricas em gorduras saturadas e acucares refinados, e habitos sedentarios. Nos ultimos anos, a microbiota intestinal foi associada aos aspectos fisiopatologicos envolvidos na obesidade. De estudos com animais livres de bacterias no trato digestivo, conhecidos como \"animais sem germes\", a relevância da microbiota intestinal na regulacao da gordura corporal tornou-se evidente e sua importância tambem se estendeu a fisiopatologia de doencas como diabetes mellitus e doenca cardiaca coronaria. A caracterizacao dos receptores \"Toll-like\" levou a descoberta de mecanismos que ligam o sistema imunologico a algumas vias metabolicas e abriram novas avenidas de um mundo anteriormente desconhecido para as ciencias biologicas. O aumento do conhecimento sobre as interacoes entre a microbiota intestinal e o hospedeiro certamente pode revelar, em um futuro nao muito distante, novas perspectivas terapeuticas para a obesidade e suas doencas relacionadas.","PeriodicalId":31471,"journal":{"name":"Medical Express","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.5935/MEDICALEXPRESS.2017.04.01","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44570303","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
