In particular, this article is devoted to the complex processes of growing-up and maturation as seen through the perspective of authors James Matthew Barry and Jadranka Vladova in their children's novels Peter Panand “The Mirror Behind the Mirror. Through themain characters Peter Pan and Maya (whose attitude towards growth is quite a contrast) the development of the child’s soul is presented, its character formation and some of the possible problems that arise during that process.Peter Pan is a symbol for a boy who refuses to grow up because he is satisfied with his own freedom and independence, but like any other child, he longs at the same time for sincere motherly love and care. In contrast to him, in Vladova’s novel the girl Maja wants to grow up too fastin order to get rid of loneliness, as well as to gain the right of choice and a sense of security that is found in adults. Common to both characters is the premature abandonment of parental protection and care, before their maturity(with Petar because ofthe desire for freedom, while with Maja because of the unavailability of the parents). This circumstance of events leads to problems in the development of both characters. The boy Peter Pan never reaches emotional and cognitive maturity, while the girl Maya falls into dangerous delusions and fantasies from which she frees herself through socializing with her peers, when she realizes that she should not rush into life and preoccupy herself with the difficult problems of adults. This paper will elaborate thеse theoretical premises through the interpretation of the novel The Мathematician's Daughterby the Macedonian author Venko Andonovski. The interpretive focus will be on three levels.1.the interpretation of ontological themes in the novel; 2.interpretation of metafictional devices (intertextuality, intartextuality, transtextuality, vacant quotation, recursive structures, transworldidentities), through which these themes are articulated in the novel; 3. the interpretation of the function that these metafictional devices have in demonstration of ontological games with the boundaries between worlds (literature -reality, art -life, fact -fiction, author-character) and between texts (original and plagiarized, texts and metatexts). The interpretation of Venko Andonovski's novel led to two conclusions with theoretical implications. First, all devices in the novel participate in the affirmation of the complex metafictional theme (the reality-fiction relationship) and, in that sense, participate in redefining the understanding of the novel as a mimetic genre. Through critical reflections on certain aspects of women's representation in popular culture, we will re-examine her role in society, seeking explicit and subliminal sexist messages embedded in literary and film language. Exploring the hegemony of the body, through the objectification of women and sexism, the cultural shackles of normative femininity, we will try to find gender asymmetry in the media representation and note the relationship with the ideology of consumerism and mass culture. Decoding the gender stereotypes, on the one hand, and the contemporary post-feminist transformations of femininity, on the other, we will re-examine the gender roles in popular culture by asking questions: To what extent do books and films about Bridget Jonesand The Stepford Wivesoppose the macho, sexist and patriarchal culture? Are they a rebellion against gender and structural discrimination against women? Is the criticism in those works clear and explicit or, in the attempt to detect gender stereotypes, do they in fact legitimize and strengthen them? Is it a matter of subversion, resistance or acceptance, or is it a reconciliation with the dominant values of popular culture and masculine society? Through the polysemic reading of the texts we will seek for the new meanings that are created through the juxtaposition of the code and the decoder, in the interaction between the text, the meaning, the context, the recipient and the discourse. We have considered diﬀerent approaches to the appropriate concept, its types and major classiﬁcations have been distinguished; we have established the image features; we’ve determined the relation between image structure and literary development process, as well as with development of diﬀerent types of arts and genre peculiarities of ﬁction. By comparing the theoretical explorations in the certain discipline we’ve given the new image classiﬁcations and study of their structure. The current study investigates the theoretical foundations for the analysis methodology of image. The article is of interest to a large number of existing concepts to the deﬁnition of “image”, “artistic image” which show some aspects but don’t cover the whole scope of the deﬁnition. Despite the large number of articles concerned with determining the structure and image classiﬁcation it is necessary to give a better deﬁnition of this term in literature studies. The study aims at unifying the existing deﬁnitions of “literary and artistic image” and updating of artistic images standard classiﬁcation in literature studies. The speciﬁc objectives of the present study are to identify the trends of theoretical and literary approach to understand the term “artistic image”; to determine the classiﬁcation criteria of artistic images; to identify the types and features of artistic image. The deﬁnition of outlined components of the literary process and the factors that aﬀect its evolution are suggested. At the same time, the concept of the literary process is illuminated: allocation of the verbal art of a syncretic of mythological and folk art, the loss of anonymity writing, strengthening the dialogue art of thinking, the formation of personal, individual authorship, the weakening of canonicity in genre creation (evolution from folk epic to the novel), the formation of psychological and socio-historical speciﬁcity (realism) is an artistic exploration of life. It is proved that the evolving according to its internal laws the literature included in the overall socio-cultural paradigm, and its steady course of the extra literature factors as philosophical, ideological, sociological, psychological are determined. At the same time, the angles of the multifaceted connection of literature with the historical process was shown. The article focused on the value side of the literary process, as the interaction of literature with cultural, linguistic, ideological, scientiﬁc phenomena, as well as with other types of art. Theoretical developments on the role of the national system in it involved to understand the literary process in the analysis of the problem in the ﬁeld of research. First of all clariﬁed its characteristics, the factors that shape the national literature, and identiﬁes typological framework structure of national literature. Shaw’s play “Candida”. The cultural intertext in the play was inﬂuenced by the author’s life circumstances, namely his position as an art critic, and his social stance alike. G.B. Shaw studied H. Ibsen’s legacy extensively and developed the Norwegian playwright’s views in his own works – which resulted in Shaw developing his own art theory and the principles of “drama of ideas”. “Candida” is a vivid example of “drama of ideas”, wherein the conﬂicts are determined not by external circumstances, but rather by ideas and philosophies expressed by the characters. Cultural intertext plays an important role in characters’ descriptions. In his play, G.B. Shaw uses diﬀerent kinds of cultural intertext: artistic and literary (Titian, R. Browning, E.T.A. Hoﬀmann, Voltaire, the legend of Tristan and Isolde), religious (F. D. Maurice, the Virgin Mary, archangel Zadkiel), social (S. Grand, K. Marx, Fabian Society). It was determined that the name ‘Candida’ has been widely employed in culture, both in biblical stories and classical works of literature (Voltaire, E.T.A. Hoﬀmann etc). However, G.B. Shaw’s reception of this literary context is critical. While associations can be drawn between “Candida” and “Little Zaches, Great Zinnober” (in terms of plot, imagery, symbols and motives), it is clear that the British playwright seeks to enrich classical images with modern meaning. Therefore, he turns to the genre of mystery play, which allows for use of biblical imagery while also securing a tight bond to reality. The plot is based around the framework of a love triangles.
