ARTISTIC IMAGE AS A CENTRAL CATEGORY POETICS

Abstract

This article examines the theoretical study on the concept of “artistic image” in literature, which represents the result of sensual and cognitive process, the unity of thoughts and feelings, rational and emotional. We have considered different approaches to the appropriate concept, its types and major classifications have been distinguished; we have established the image features; we’ve determined the relation between image structure and literary development process, as well as with development of different types of arts and genre peculiarities of fiction. By comparing the theoretical explorations in the certain discipline we’ve given the new image classifications and study of their structure. The current study investigates the theoretical foundations for the analysis methodology of image. The article is of interest to a large number of existing concepts to the definition of “image”, “artistic image” which show some aspects but don’t cover the whole scope of the definition. Despite the large number of articles concerned with determining the structure and image classification it is necessary to give a better definition of this term in literature studies. The study aims at unifying the existing definitions of “literary and artistic image” and updating of artistic images standard classification in literature studies. The specific objectives of the present study are to identify the trends of theoretical and literary approach to understand the term “artistic image”; to determine the classification criteria of artistic images; to identify the types and features of artistic image. The object of the study is the general structure of literary work; the subject of the study is the “artistic image” as one of the main criteria of aesthetics, cultural and art studies, literary theory and the way to represent the reality from the point of aesthetic ideal in certain sensual form.
