Self-explanatory constructions are syntactic units, where both explanatory and explainable components express differently the same phenomenon, concept, feature, action, etc. The purpose of this article is the analysis of structural and functional features of self-explanatory constructs in Ukrainian linguistics. The research proved that the means of formation of self-explanatory units depend on the nature of explanatory relationships. It has been found that re-designation has different purposes: specification, listing of individual cases, giving an example, clarification, interpretation, indication of the possibility of a dual name, etc. The structural and semantic diversity of self-explanatory constructs and the frequency of their use in the texts of functional styles of modern Ukrainian literary language were revealed. The basic functions inherent in self-explanatory constructions were considered: self-explanatory, which combines explanatory, contextual-refinement, information and translation functions; interpretative and corrective ones. Therefore, the analyzed syntactic constructs may take a position of any member of the sentence – both main and secondary ones. The means of formation of self-explanatory units depend on the nature of explanatory relationships. In the composition of the statement the repeated meaning finds expression, first of all, in the selection of service words-indicators of actual-explanatory ties and type of intonation, as well as in the lexical composition of the explanatory. In the modern Ukrainian language the analyzed constructions are mostly used in scientific, journalistic and official business styles, where they realize their own explanatory, interpretative and corrective functions.","PeriodicalId":31432,"journal":{"name":"Caesura Journal of Philological and Humanistic Studies","volume":"26 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-02-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84880869","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The points of view of literary theorists (M. Bakhtin, Y. Lotman, J. Maritin) are determined on the location, forms of personification of the author’s consciousness, conceptual image author’s significance in the reader’s perception in the composition. The purpose of this article is to compare the views of literary critics and writers on the manifestations of the author’s consciousness in a composition using the miror’s symbolism. Comparison of the artistic principle of the author’s vision with the mirror surface (F. Dostoevsky, V. Korolenko) gave grounds for a new understanding of the author’s presence and the author’s comprehensive vision. The author analyzes the stages of approaching the image of the author to the reader’s understanding: ethical knowledge, author’s «discovery», his meeting with the reader. The reader is able to make spiritual efforts, emotional empathy, intellectual experience in order to achieve the highest level of understanding of the author’s in the composition. The value of the research is the theoretical substantiation and practical orientation of the reader’s perception based on narration forms and images, a conversation between an author and a reader.","PeriodicalId":31432,"journal":{"name":"Caesura Journal of Philological and Humanistic Studies","volume":"25 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-02-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80017364","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

First, it has the following specific semantic descriptions: “the carrier of the procedural sign + the procedural sign + the direction of realization of the procedural sign: the starting point of the movement: the direction of motion from the locative landmark”; “Carrier of procedural sign + procedural sign + direction of realization of procedural sign: end point of movement: direction of motion toward a locative landmark”, secondly, may be internally differentiated, thirdly, represented in the Ukrainian language by such repertoire of specific representatives: Sub+Praed+Adv loc [З/ЗІ/ІЗ БОКУ+Ngen] loc [dir: start], Sub+Praed+Adv loc [З/ЗІ/ІЗ СТОРОНИ+Ngen] loc [dir: start], Sub+Praed+Adv loc [З/ЗІ/ІЗ+Ngen] loc [dir: start], Sub+Praed+Adv loc [В/У БІК/ ВБІК/УБІК+Ngen] loc [dir: fin], Sub+Praed+Adv loc [З/ЗІ/ІЗ СТОРОНИ+Ngen] loc [dir: fin], Sub+Praed+Adv loc [В/У+Ngen] loc [dir: fin], Sub+Praed+Adv loc [НА+Nacc] loc [dir: fin]. The sentences based on the distinct structural submodels are analyzed in the terms of the interaction of their semantic-syntactic and formal-grammatical organization. Up to the aim, the lexical-semantic structure of the constitutive positions of the sentence (predicate, right-hand, and partly left-hand) is thoroughly characterized; it is proved that in formation of the sentences studied the main carriers of valence (verbs, mainly those denoting motion, space transfer, optical and acoustic perception) are involved, the nouns programmed by them in the right-hand position, as well as the adjective component side that preserves the genetic association with the substance on which it is based. It is also proved that the presence of a quantitative, qualitative modifier in the form of a numerator, the adjective of the adjective pronoun, becomes a condition for the functioning of the lexema side on the rights of the substantive component. Semantic-syntactic relationships of the studied sentences with other sentence structures of analogous meaning structure are established; and isofunctional relations are potential. The syntactic non-perspective of the sentences of the structural submodel is revealed Sub+Praed+Adv [У/В СТОРОНУ+Ngen] loc, Sub+Praed+Adv [З/ЗІ/ІЗ СТОРОНИ+Ngen] loc, which are semantically and valently identical with the sentences of structural submodels Sub+Praed+Adv [З/ЗІ/ІЗ БОКУ+Ngen] loc і Sub+Praed+Adv [В/У БІК+Ngen] loc and which reflect the lexico-semantic competition that exists between direction and side nouns.","PeriodicalId":31432,"journal":{"name":"Caesura Journal of Philological and Humanistic Studies","volume":"6 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-02-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75126583","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A large number of new feminitives in modern Russian language denotes the relevance of specific names for females, despite the tendency to use masculine words as general words in official speech. The most frequent feminitives are the names of female persons by profession or occupation. The results of a pilot experiment aimed at detecting the use of feminitives when referring to women of certain professions are presented. All data is divided into several groups. The first group consists of professions with a more frequent use of feminitives than names in the masculine grammatical gender.The second group is the one where some of the feminitives are found in dictionaries labeled “colloquial”. The third group includes cases when feminitives exist, but the respondents formed them in a different way using frequency derivational models.","PeriodicalId":31432,"journal":{"name":"Caesura Journal of Philological and Humanistic Studies","volume":"7 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78658712","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The analysis will focus on the historical novel Človek proti človeku [Man against Man], 1930, by France Bevk, which thematizes the Middle Ages, but which should be read as a metaphor through which the author during the Italian occupation of Primorsko polemically and subtle confronted foreign rulers. In the novel the problem of national persecution is represented as the opposition between the representatives of ecclesiastical and secular/aristocratic authority on the one hand and the serfdom on the other, and is most thoroughly addressed through the relationship between patriarch and brave (bandit) nobles. With their bold opposition to the patriarch, secret conspiracy and efforts to remedy injustice and restore peace and order in their home country, the nobles also serve as a model for unification of the nation. Exile is also understood in terms of the individual's exile and the search for one's identity. More specifically, it is self-exile, which is at the same time self-awareness, as embodied in the central figure of Jerko, who is torn between the sword, the monk's habit and the poetry/art/spirituality. Jerko could be the alter ego of the writer France Bevk, who wrote the novel under conditions of house imprisonment and concluded it meaningfully with the symbolism of the falcon as the messenger of the spiritual world (and thus art).","PeriodicalId":31432,"journal":{"name":"Caesura Journal of Philological and Humanistic Studies","volume":"50 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86108437","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By far the largest and most significant part of his painterly and sculptural oeuvre Vassilieff executed on Australian soil, in the states of New South Wales and Victoria.This article explores Vassilieff’s visual arts ideas and idiom created within the parameters of his Russian and Slav cultural memory and characterised by his émigré experience. It argues that Vassilieff’s art was fully formed only after the artist’s experiencing anexistence of a permanentémigré in Australia and that both his ideas andhis idiom flourished in opposition to the cultural traditions of his new environment.Vassilieff’s relationship with his Russian and Slav cultural heritage was traced in the monograph Imaginary homelands, the art of Danila Vassilieff(Bojic2007). This essaycomplements the extant research by examiningVassilieff’s relationship with his Australian environment as reflected in his work. Vassilieff’s experience of a permanent émigré formed his visual arts idiom and provided for the large pool of themes and topics in his work. Much of his oeuvrebridgedthe varied cultural traditions of his Russian homeland and the hardshiphe experienced living in a barren Australian land. There weretwo reasonsfor this. One was the artist’s positionof being an émigré; the other was that of being an artist. His initial alone-ness in a new Australian environment allowed for his one-ness and thus contributed to the uniqueness of his expression and his oeuvre, recognised as such later on by his Australian peers. Thechronic trauma of being a permanentémigré was a continualfeature of Vassilieff’slife and of his work. Hisdeep feelings ofnostalgiawerean essential quality of his existence in exile.The artist himself would attempt to counterbalance 19this with his all-pervasive energetic good will and his refined sense of humour and sweet ironyon occasions leading into a sarcasm, evident in many of his works.","PeriodicalId":31432,"journal":{"name":"Caesura Journal of Philological and Humanistic Studies","volume":"50 7","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72409109","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
