Research has shown that waste recycling has not reached the desired level. Despite educational institutions providing waste and recycling training using various methods and techniques from a young age, the results are not satisfactory. The objective of this study is to develop a scale to assess the behaviors of middle school students regarding household waste recycling. Both exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were conducted to validate the scale. The sample consisted of 392 7th and 8th-grade middle school students who had already received education on household waste recycling. The data included 177 students for the EFA and 215 students for the CFA from two separate sample groups. EFA revealed that the measurement tool could be grouped into three factors. The CFA results demonstrated that the data were within acceptable values, indicating that the model was supported by the data. The final version of the scale comprised 16 items. The first seven items were categorized under \"Participation in Project,\" 6 items under \"Care,\" and the remaining three items under \"Reminder\" based on factor names and expert opinions. The Cronbach's Alpha reliability coefficients for the three factors ranged from 0.641 to 0.814. The Cronbach's Alpha reliability coefficient for the 16-item scale was determined as 0.862. It is believed that this developed scale will assist in assessing the impact of various methods used for household waste recycling on student behavior.","PeriodicalId":312663,"journal":{"name":"Uluslararası Türk Eğitim Bilimleri Dergisi","volume":"4 4","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135809096","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Today, there is growing interest in culturally responsive education as a result of increasing student diversity and educators' efforts to provide a more inclusive and equitable educational experience that can respond to this diversity. This study aims to identify the pedagogical approaches and the cultural sensitivity of these approaches that determine how academics connect with, relate to, and teach their culturally and racially diverse students. The data from this phenomenological study were obtained through focus-group interviews with six faculty members working in various higher education institutions. The findings show that faculty members' knowledge of culturally responsive teaching and teaching strategies is inadequate. According to the participants, exams, crowded classrooms, teaching materials, and societal perceptions are the main barriers to achieving culturally responsive education. To reach all students and ensure their success, it is expected that this study will give faculty members insight into how to develop inclusive skills, positive attitudes, and culturally sensitive pedagogy.","PeriodicalId":312663,"journal":{"name":"Uluslararası Türk Eğitim Bilimleri Dergisi","volume":"6 10","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135808223","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The participants of the study were English Language and Literature students studying at a public university in Türkiye in the 2022-2023 academic year. The research data were collected through a questionnaire survey form consisting of the Measure of Pronunciation Anxiety in Foreign Language Classroom (MPA-FLC) and a personal information section and were analyzed via statistical tests in SPSS. The findings indicated that the students felt mild-to-moderate levels of pronunciation anxiety and that the pronunciation anxiety component with the highest rating was beliefs about pronunciation and its importance as a communicative skill. The study also sought to examine the effects of some learner characteristics on pronunciation anxiety. The findings demonstrated that the students’ gender, perceived English proficiency and previous language learning experiences influenced their anxiety levels whereas the variables of age and year of study in the department had no significant effects on student responses. The females, those students with lower levels of perceived proficiency, and those who received intensive English language education at the foreign language departments at high school reported higher pronunciation anxiety. The results are discussed in the light of available literature providing implications and recommendations for further research.","PeriodicalId":312663,"journal":{"name":"Uluslararası Türk Eğitim Bilimleri Dergisi","volume":"23 9","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135808902","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cinema also questions the education policy applied in that society, the education system, and its point of view towards education and presents this questioning to its audience on the white screen. This questioning is an important tool, especially in terms of educational philosophy, because educational philosophy seeks answers to the questions and problems of education by using the cognitive tools of philosophy, like questioning and criticism, and criticism of the education policy constitutes an important part of these problems. In this study, Hababam Sınıfı-an educational-based film series, which started to be aired between 1970 and 1980, was analyzed philosophically, and some inferences were made regarding the Turkish education policy adopted at that period of time and based on these films made in the relevant period, teacher models, student characters and characteristics of the education system were revealed. Based on the teacher models/characters in the film, the expectations of the teachers from their students and the perspective of society towards the teaching profession in that period were interpreted. Similarly, based on the student models/characters in the film, the perspectives of students towards the Turkish education system, their expectations from the Turkish education system, and the effects of teachers and the education system of that period on students were analyzed. Finally, based on the teacher and student characters reflected in the films, the characteristics of the Turkish education policy and education system between 1970 and 1980 were explained, and some recommendations were made for future research.","PeriodicalId":312663,"journal":{"name":"Uluslararası Türk Eğitim Bilimleri Dergisi","volume":"17 7","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135808911","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

After the exploratory factor analysis, a structure comprising 35 items and six factors was formed. It was determined that the scale explained 63.946% of the total variance in this form. The factors include the \"Rule of Law and Justice,\" \"Opposition,\" \"Participation,\" \"Separation of Powers,\" \"Freedom,\" and \"Pluralism.\" CFA was performed, and the fit index values were found as follows: χ2/df=2.02, RMSEA=0.042, NFI=0.97, NNFI=0.98, CFI=0.99, GFI=0.99, and AGFI= 0.99. It was concluded that all values obtained from CFA analysis are sufficient to verify the structure. It was also supposed that the 35 items-six-factor structure was confirmed as a model. Related to the validity and reliability studies of the scale, it was seen that CR and test-retest correlation values showed that the scale is valid and reliable. CR value was 0.97, and the test-retest correlation value was 0.77. After examining all the results, we decided that the scale is valid and reliable for measuring individuals' perceptions of democracy.","PeriodicalId":312663,"journal":{"name":"Uluslararası Türk Eğitim Bilimleri Dergisi","volume":"5 4","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135809085","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study was designed as a one-group pre-test and post-test design. In the study, the Affective Characteristics Questionnaire (ACQ), used for assessing attitude and motivation towards physics, and the Mechanics Achievement Test (MAT), used for assessing achievement in mechanics and developed by the researchers, were both used as pre-tests and post-tests as instruments. In addition, nine context-based questions were developed by the researchers in order to carry out the context-based problem-solving instructional approach as the experimental intervention. As a result, although no statistically significant improvement was observed in the preservice science teachers’ attitudes and motivations towards physics, it was observed that there was statistically and practically significant progress in the mechanical achievement test scores. In the analysis based on the interaction of males’ and females’ progress in mechanics achievement, statistically significant interaction could not be observed due to the limitation of the sample size. However, female preservice science teachers were observed to benefit more than the males from the intervention with a small-medium effect size. That is to say, a practically significant interaction was observed. Therefore, the context-based problem-solving instructional approach seems to minimize the gender gap in mechanics or physics achievement potentially.","PeriodicalId":312663,"journal":{"name":"Uluslararası Türk Eğitim Bilimleri Dergisi","volume":"6 8","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135809241","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Early diagnosis, benefiting from hearing technologies, and participation in early education environments with their families are very important in minimizing these delays that children with hearing loss may experience. The purpose of this research is, therefore, to examine the information presented to families in early education practices with children with hearing loss and their families. The data of this case study, one of the qualitative research methods, was collected through observations, semi-structured interviews, documents, and products. The data was analyzed inductively. The findings showed that the information presented to the families is transmitted in a way that is based on continuous interaction, includes open and responsive interactions, encourages the family, and that feeds and expands cyclically from the previous information. It was also found that the educator received information about the history of the child and family, device use, daily routines, and that the families needed information about their children's development, coping with behavioral problems and future expectations. Additionally, that the educators ensured that the families received information on the use of hearing aids, language support and communication skills, enrichment of daily routines, and additional deficiencies were revealed. In early education implementations, materials such as toys, picture cards, story books, song texts were used and forms for informing families were used for registration as a product of the information presented.","PeriodicalId":312663,"journal":{"name":"Uluslararası Türk Eğitim Bilimleri Dergisi","volume":"3 9","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135808935","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
