The social foundations of education are closely related to the environment. One of the factors affecting school culture is communication with its environment as the school interacts with its environment. Schools realize institutional communication, which has an important place in their culture, through different tools. This study aims to determine the use of social media tools as a communication tool in primary and secondary education institutions within the framework of school culture. In the study, the use of social media tools in educational institutions was revealed in line with the opinions of school social media managers. Conducted with a case study approach by qualitative research methodology, the study group of the research was determined by maximum diversity sampling from purposeful sampling methods. The interviews were conducted with the participation of 18 school social media managers working in public schools at different levels and with different socioeconomic levels in Istanbul. Social media managers are teachers, and 15 of these teachers also have administrative duties (1 is a school principal, and 14 are vice principals) in the same school. The data were collected through a semi-structured interview form and analyzed using a content analysis approach. The results of the study revealed that schools prefer Instagram more frequently and that school social media managers use their social media accounts for sharing information and news and promoting the school. The ethical principles followed by schools in social media administration were collected in the categories of respecting personal rights and private life, sharing content related to the institution, compliance with the legislation, the posts reflecting the values, being shared with the decision of the commission, using Turkish correctly, and student and parent satisfaction. The participants stated that they strive to establish two-way communication with their followers in their social media accounts and that social media contributes to their organizations more frequently in terms of usefulness, advertising and promotion, and stakeholder satisfaction.","PeriodicalId":312663,"journal":{"name":"Uluslararası Türk Eğitim Bilimleri Dergisi","volume":" 7","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140392279","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Casual relief teaching, which is not defined as an official duty in the legislation of the Turkish education system, usually occurs when surplus teachers nominated to the provincial order are assigned to crowded schools in provincial-district centres. CRTs contribute to the sustainability of education activities in the absence of RCTs. The working conditions of these teachers vary, and they teach in different grade levels. In this study, the working conditions of CRTs in the context of the Turkish education system are analysed from the perspective of different stakeholders. This study was conducted with phenomenological research design, one of the qualitative research designs. The participants of the study consisted of school administrators (principals and vice principals), RCTs, CRTs and parents. The data obtained through qualitative interviews using individual semi-structured forms were analysed by content analysis method. According to the findings, CRTs were found to suffer from not having a fixed classroom, not being able to adapt to different teaching methods, experiencing various problems in classroom management and facing disrespect from their colleagues from time to time. While serving as a CRT is an advantage for some CRTs due to family reasons, disadvantages occur in terms of having problems in adapting to the school culture and forming organisational commitment. RCTs see CRTs as an important part of the education system and think that they contribute to the sustainability of teaching processes. School administrators, on the other hand, see CRTs as useful stakeholders of the school system. For school administrators, CRTs contribute to the school in terms of providing teacher flexibility and sometimes helping with administrative tasks.","PeriodicalId":312663,"journal":{"name":"Uluslararası Türk Eğitim Bilimleri Dergisi","volume":"113 14","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140422413","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Mathematical competency demands are defined as communication, devising strategy, mathematizing, representation, using symbols, operations and formal language, and reasoning and argument. Thirteen middle school mathematics teachers (7 female, 6 male) participated voluntarily in the study. They were asked to solve twelve skill-based questions, followed by the examination of their solutions, and then semi-structured interviews were conducted with each of them. During the interviews, the teachers were presented with semi-structured questions, and their evaluations were examined within the scope of mathematical competencies. The study results indicated that teachers apply different solutions in solving the questions and that mathematical competencies emerge at different levels within these solutions. Considering the determined levels of solutions, other competencies, except for communication competency, appeared to be at similar levels based on teachers' evaluations. The competency of using symbols, operations, and formal language stood out as an essential factor in selecting among strategies. It was found that teachers could create appropriate models according to the level of demand for mathematizing competency, yet they did not evaluate the structural relationships between variables within the scope of mathematizing competency. Regarding representation competency, the most striking point was that the majority of teachers identified and used visual information. However, only a few teachers were successful in manipulating representations in a solution-appropriate manner. It was also discovered that as the demand level increases in using symbols, operations, and formal language competency, the increase in the number, type, and procedures of operations used is not always correct with these solution methods. Teachers could not identify the mathematical deductions utilized in the solution process. The majority addressed them at a lower demand level in their evaluations.","PeriodicalId":312663,"journal":{"name":"Uluslararası Türk Eğitim Bilimleri Dergisi","volume":"24 22","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140429948","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

After the exploratory factor analysis, a structure comprising 26 items and five factors was formed. These factors were identified as commitment, composure, confidence, coordination, and control, collectively explaining 60.20% of the overall variance. CFA was performed, and the fit index values were found as follows: χ2=815.113, df=286, (χ2/ df =2.85), RMSEA=.07, CFI=.88, GFI=.85, IFI=.88. It was concluded that all values obtained from CFA analysis are sufficient to verify the structure. It was also supposed that the 26 items-five factor structure was confirmed as a model. Related to the validity and reliability studies of the scale, the convergent and discriminant validity were checked. Each factor demonstrated Cronbach's alpha coefficients ranging from .90 to .71. After examining all the results, it was found out that the scale is valid and reliable for measuring students' academic buoyancy.","PeriodicalId":312663,"journal":{"name":"Uluslararası Türk Eğitim Bilimleri Dergisi","volume":"834 ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140446501","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

(2009) to Turkish culture to assess teachers' Professional Moral Courage levels. For this purpose, the data obtained from 446 teachers working in primary and secondary schools in the central districts of Antalya province in the 2020-2021 academic year were analyzed. The Professional Moral Courage scale is a seven-point Likert-type measurement tool comprising five dimensions and 15 items. First-Level Confirmatory Factor Analysis and Second-Level Confirmatory Factor Analysis were conducted to determine whether the original structure of the scale was also provided in Turkish culture. Additionally, Cronbach's Alpha (α) coefficient, McDonald's Omega (ω) reliability coefficient, and AVE values were calculated to determine the reliability level of the scale. The fit indices obtained supported the five-dimensional structure identified in the original study, which included moral judgment, multiple values, confronting threats, going beyond conformity, and moral goal. In addition, Cronbach's Alpha (α) coefficient for the whole scale was calculated as .94, and McDonald's Omega (ω) reliability coefficient was calculated as .91. Consequently, the analysis determined that the scale adapted for Turkish culture is a valid and reliable measurement tool for measuring teachers' moral courage.","PeriodicalId":312663,"journal":{"name":"Uluslararası Türk Eğitim Bilimleri Dergisi","volume":"37 8","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140460854","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In instrumental teaching, the principles of bodily setup vary according to the bodily setup of each instrument. The basic bodily setup principles of the bağlama (Turkic traditional lute) instrument are formed under the headings of sitting, posture, and grip, and teaching and performance are carried out. However, the number of scientific studies on the taxonomy and other principles of posture to be adopted in teaching the instrument is quite insufficient. It is not yet possible to say that there is a common understanding of this. The aim of this study is to reveal the general tendency in accordance with the basic principles adopted in the materials regarding the teaching of body posture by analyzing the teaching content related to body posture in the written teaching materials prepared for the teaching of bağlama from various aspects. In the study, data was collected using the method of document analysis, one of the qualitative research methods. The data obtained were then subjected to content analysis. The sample of the study consists of 32 written teaching materials prepared for teaching the bağlama instrument. The sample was selected by using the purposive criterion sampling method. In the research, firstly, the place of the concept of the body structure in the related materials, its importance, and the way it is treated were analyzed. In addition, details such as the taxonomy in which the teaching of the body structure is realized in the documents and the visual tools used to convey it were described. The materials were compared with each other in terms of general information about body construction, related units and titles, the ratio of the number of pages related to body construction to the total number of pages, and gradualisation preferences. As a result of the research, the general contours of teaching the body structure stage in the materials in the sample were determined and the tendencies towards this concept in the materials were presented to the reader. It is envisaged that the research data can be used in future related studies and in the creation of taxonomies that will increase the quality of the teaching process of the bodily setup.","PeriodicalId":312663,"journal":{"name":"Uluslararası Türk Eğitim Bilimleri Dergisi","volume":"17 10","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135808908","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The most effective instrument for achieving this goal is education. For this reason, countries allocate substantial budgets to ensure universality in their education systems, aiming to enable the participation of all citizens in education. This process has led to massification in education and, therefore, has brought a heated debate about what needs to be done in the education system and the labor market to ensure a smooth transition from school to work. In these discussions, the problems related to the transition from school to work are often primarily associated with deficiencies in the education system. However, this trend overlooks many hidden social networks and actual employment dynamics in this transition. Thus, the current study addresses employability based on the Granovetter network model, which has played a pioneering role in understanding employment dynamics and continues to be relevant. The study explores the Granovetter model and the significance of weak ties, the relationship between the Granovetter model and new network models, and the Matthew Effect in the Granovetter model. Furthermore, it emphasizes that acting based on the insights from this model in the transition from school to work is as crucial as human capital.","PeriodicalId":312663,"journal":{"name":"Uluslararası Türk Eğitim Bilimleri Dergisi","volume":"3 8","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135808936","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These methods aim to reduce selection bias in estimates of the average treatment effect (ATE) in observational studies. For the estimation of standard errors of the ATE with weights, three methods were compared: weighted least squares (WLS), Taylor series linearization (TSL), and jackknife (JK). Results indicated that covariance adjustment extensions of the investigated propensity score methods, in combination with TSL and JK standard error estimation methods, remove the selection bias appropriately and provide the most accurate standard errors under the simulated conditions.","PeriodicalId":312663,"journal":{"name":"Uluslararası Türk Eğitim Bilimleri Dergisi","volume":"4 11","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135809090","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
