Through the folklore and history of the Land of Java or known as a Babad, those stories explained that waliyullah was the person who determining direction of Qibla by raising his right-hand and holding Masjidil Haram in Makkah. On the other hand, he was holding mustoko of the mosque. A line between his right and left-hand as a line of direction of the mosque’s Qibla. This kind of story was widespread in society as a myth. This myth was related to karomah (divine distinction) of waliyullah. Therefore, Qibla of the mosque could not be changeabled, eventhough, the qibla direction of Great Mosque is not unidirectional with direction of Masjidil Haram. People’s opinions said that Qibla direction of the mosque is right according to jihatul Ka’bah. This research is integrated with myth and astronomy. The results of this research are different from formerly perspectives. Firstly, ulama received the result of myth but they were not catching messages of the myth. Ulama were only understood of the explicit meanings of the myth but they were not understand of the implicit meanings of the myth. Secondly, Sunan Kalijaga had determined direction Qibla of the Mosque with his knowledge about falak, he was not doing it by only his karomah (divine distinction). Thirdly, the direction of the Qibla at the Great Mosque that was inherited from the Islamic Kingdom of Java was determined its Qibla direction by using ‘ainul Ka’bah method and not only by using jihatul Ka’bah method. The kiai in the traditional pesantren educated the student set of classical Islamic text books those organized by the method sorogan and bandongan. In the early 20th century, pesantrens have got challenge with school education system that introduced by Dutch Colonial Government in the first 1900s. The challenge to pesantren also came from Muslim Reformist which also performed modern educational system in their schools and madrasah. Facing the challenge, most of pesantren modernized their educational system by performing schools and madrasah affiliated to the Indonesian government. There were only a few pesantrens those rejected the of modern educational system. Pesantren al- Is’af rejected the school education system and had ben keeping the sustainability of traditional education of Islamic knowledge teaching learning. The rejection brought about the effort of the pesantren in sthrengtening teaching learning classical Islamic textbook (kitab kuning) with sorogan and bandongan methods. Some of the text books had taugt the rule of santri learning. This research uses qualitative approach and pospositivistic paradigm. The research data was collected by interview, observation and documentation. Technique of validity test data use triangulation, cover angulasi technique, source and time. Data were analyzed by Miles Hubermans interactive cycling technique, with cycle collecting, reducting, displaying and verifying. The subjects of this research are the leaders of madrasah, faculty, students and stakelholders of madrasah. Research location at MA. NU Banat, Kudus, Central Java, Indonesia. The results of this study are (1) Students who have good pretation in the field of academic and non academic are students who study in school organization unit that has commitment and spirit to go forward. A good and conducive organizational culture that is maintained by all members of the organization is very supportive to the achievement of superior and competitive student achievement (2) The source of values or outlooks that make the students become outstanding achievers is the accumulation of values formed from the religious family environment and dicipline, school environment consistent with the practice of religion in the school environment that inculcates values of virtue, dicipline in learning, honest, competitive and heed the norms prevailing in society. (3) behavioral typology and high school student learning attitudes are responsive stimuli. The more rules and structured tasks created by the school and the subject teachers, the students' attitudes and motivation will be more intense and vice versa (4) outstanding achievement students have a close relationship with the teacher. The result of research aim about correlation between religion and society are creates the influence of the two sides. The religion influence the society otherwise the society influence the religion. It is intended by the Qur’an that man is always holy and keep the holiness that God gives. While the power of human thought is directed to read and analyze and conclude the signs and signs of God’s greatness. However, recent series of terrorist attack and the emergence of groups that are categorized as extremist and fundamentalist in Indonesia have given opposite impression. This paper is aimed at appraising the the moderation of Indonesian Muslim. The object of this study is two largest Muslim organizations namely Muhammadiyah and Nahdlatul Ulama. For this appraisal the author employs the selectively the criteria of Western scholars as well as Muslim intellectuals, since there are growing tendency of observers, intellectual and policy makers to pose certain criteria of moderation based on their own interests. General survey on those tendencies suggests that there are at least three categories of moderate definition: extremist, Western biased and Islamic criteria, each of which contain acceptable and unacceptable aspects that require further selection. It is from these acceptable criteria that the author attempts to appraise the moderation of Indonesian Muslims through the vision and mission of mass-organization, especially Muhammadiyah and Nahdlatul Ulama as well as their education system. This research was a qualitative study with a naturalistic paradigm which philosophically referred to phenomenological post-positivism and used social action models. This research was conducted in Kudus Regency with subjects related to institutional reality, curriculum implementation, learning and human resources of Madrasah Aliyah (MA) or Islamic Senior High Schools. The results showed that pesantren or Islamic boarding school is a model of MA management which madrasah and pesantren management are operationally managed in one management system. It means that MA is not only physically located in pesantren, but MA and pesantren are in an integrated organizational and management structure. The purpose of this management system unification is that all educational processes are in a system that allows all teachers and students activities in the same program package. It will ultimately create a holistic education process that produce the quality education output and outcome. According to the Compilation of Islamic Law or the fiqh of the results of ijtihad fuqaha Nusantara, the assets obtained in marriage, except those obtained through inheritance or grants from parents/family, are joint property of husband and wife (gono gini). One party may not use it except getting agreement from the other parties. And if marriage breaks, either because of divorce or death, then it must be divided into two. In the books of Arabic Fiqh, there is no joint property because marriage does not cause a mixture of wealth. Nonetheless, in the books of fiqh provides the possession of wife's assets, such as dowry, livelihood, mut'ah, iwadl and tirkah. If the provision of fiqh is carried out consistently, then when a divorce occurs, the husband must leave the house, because all the property has become the property of his wife through a way of life. But this is certainly not fair. Some focused on the use of traditions (Riwāyah) while some others focus on the use of acquired knowledge (Dirāyah) or opinion- based Tafsīr (Ra’y). This study focused on one of the most popular works on Tafsīr bir-Ra’y entitled Rūḥu’l-Ma’āni fi Tafsīri’l-Qur’āni’l-’Azīm was-Sab’i’l-Mathānī (The Insightful Meaning of the Exegesis of the glorious Qur’ān and the Seven Reoccurrence). The paper aimed at bringing out the hidden treasure of this encyclopedic work of Tafsīr to the English audience including its features and the sources of its information. The method adopted in this research is basically analytical and exegetical method. Findings revealed that Rūḥu’l-Ma’āni has some characteristics that stand it out among other works of Tafsīr such as logical connection between verses and chapters, grammatical analysis of verses and verification of hadīth among others. It was also revealed that the author relied on many books and scholars of different fields in his Tafsīr which makes the book a compendium of Tafsīr, and an inevitable reference material for contemporary Qur’ānic commentators. The method used in this research is qualitative with historical approach and included in the category of contemporary history. The step taken in this research is to reconstruct the tradition of IslamNusantara along with its cultural roots that lies behind it. The results show that: first, Islam has become the religion of most of the Indonesian people and has played many important roles in various social, political, economic, and cultural backgrounds. Secondly, Islam Nusantara is a typical Indonesian-Islamicstyle, which is a combination between Islamic theological teachings with the values of local traditions, cultures, and customs in this country. Third, the characters of Islam Nusantara show the existence of local wisdom in Indonesia that does not violate the teachings of Islam, instead they synergize the teachings of Islam with local customs scattered in Indonesia. Fourthly, Islam Nusantara is an Islamic practice in the country as a result of dialectics between shari'a text with local realities and culture.
