Physical, mental, social and emotional upheavals are apparent and more pronounced during adolescence. The rapid growth and their efforts to make adjustments with their physical self, family and peer group is characterized by emotional turmoil and anxiety. The change in lifestyle, peer pressure, emotional disturbances, media influence and attempt to follow the ongoing trends create an imbalance, giving rise to stress and strain. The present research work is an effort to study the relationship between the levels of anxiety and emotional adjustment in adolescent boys and girls studying in different colleges located in district Shimla in Himachal Pradesh. The tools used were AICS inventory in Hindi and STAI to find out the connection between the anxiety and emotional adjustment in these young adults.","PeriodicalId":308947,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Research: THE BEDE ATHENÆUM","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115593060","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An earthquake leaves the severity of its damage on the affected populations and they need tremendous resilience or ability to recover. April 25th, 2015 the day that was a turning point for Nepal, as it was hit by an earthquake of 7.8 magnitude. The first earthquake that struck Nepal in 1934 killed more than 10, 000 people and the earlier one which hit Nepal was in the year 1988. This paper mentions some extracts of interviews with earthquake victims. Several international search and rescue teams came and helped Nepal. Relief was provided which was brought by them and by several people from the armed forces as well as private volunteers. This study attempts to explain the effects of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) faced by the victims of such a severe earthquake.","PeriodicalId":308947,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Research: THE BEDE ATHENÆUM","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129518959","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Of the hundred or so animal-pollinated crops which make up most of the world's food supply, 15% are pollinated by domestic bees, while at least 80% are pollinated by wild bee species and other wildlife. Most of the 25, 000 to 30, 000 species of bees are effective pollinators, and together with moths, flies, wasps, beetles and butterflies, make up the majority of pollinating species. Vertebrate pollinators include bats, non-flying mammals (several species of monkey, rodents, lemur and tree squirrels etc.) and birds (humming birds, sun birds, honey creepers and some parrot species). Current understanding of pollination process shows that, while an interesting specialized relationship exist between plants and their pollinators, healthy pollination services are best ensured by an abundant diversity of pollinators. Thus, pollinators are essential for diet diversity, biodiversity, and maintenance of natural resources. Pollinators which evolved over million of years, are eroding at a fast rate from the globe. During the past few years, many pollinators especially honey bees have been dying across the globe in unprecedented number and, no one has so far been able to prove beyond a reasonable doubt what the causes may have been. The economic implications of these deaths are immediate because honey bees are integral to the pollination of tens of millions of dollars of cash crops in the world. Despite much of the world's agriculture relying on pollination by honeybees, especially European honeybees, their number across the globe has also declined. Many other pollinators such as digger bees, sweat bees, alkali bees, squash bees, leafcutter bees, carpenter bees, mason bees, and shaggy fuzzy foot bees could also be on decline, but data providing unambiguous documentation of trends are simply not available. Threats to pollinators and the services they provide are perceived to be increasing around the world and are mainly man-made in origin. Climate change could be a major factor in weakening the bees and has affected the pollination of crops in many agricultural areas. An attempt has been made to know the causes behind the decline of pollinators, especially in relation to climate change, their conservation and management and impact of declining pollinator population on horticulture in the changed global scenario.","PeriodicalId":308947,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Research: THE BEDE ATHENÆUM","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131020908","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Every day we use different coping mechanisms to overcome the various anxieties that we face. Individuals engage in coping when they feel under stress or want to manage a taxing situation. The principle purpose of this study is to find the dynamic differences in coping strategies among young adults high in social anxiety and young adults low in social anxiety. Participants completed the Liebowitz Social Anxiety Scale(1987) (Appendix C) and the Coping Strategies Inventory(1984, 2001). The study was conducted on a student population of 130 students from different universities around Mysore and Bangalore between the age group of 18–24 years. The results of the study show that there is a significant difference in self-criticism among young adults high in social anxiety and young adults low in social anxiety. It is seen that high social anxiety leads to individuals adopting self-criticism as one of the coping strategies very often. Whereas it was seen that there was no significant difference in the other coping strategies like problem solving, social withdrawal, expressing emotions, social support, cognitive restructuring, wishful thinking and problem avoidance.","PeriodicalId":308947,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Research: THE BEDE ATHENÆUM","volume":"37 5","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120837654","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A total of 12 fungal pathogens were identified on 10 weeds belonging to 9 different families of Angiosperms on the basis of their morphological characteristics. Typical disease symptoms were produced by all non obligate pathogens on their respective hosts in vitro. Inoculated pathogens were isolated and were found similar to original isolates in cultural characteristics thus confirming the pathogenicity to their respective hosts and competing Koch's postulates. Leaf spots, powdery mildews, downy mildews, rust, and smut were the main diseases caused by the fungal pathogens on various terrestrial weeds of Kurukshetra. Symptoms of diseases caused by these pathogens and cultural characteristics of 12 fungal pathogens were recorded. Alternaria cassiae on Cassia occidentalis, Cercospora sp.-I on Ageratum conyzoides, Cercospora sp.-II on Alhagi camelorum, Cercospora sp.-III on Alternanthera pungens, Cercospora sp.-IV on Argemone mexicana, Cercosporsa sp.-XI on Peristrophe bicalyculata, Peronospora arborescens on Argemone mexicana, Puccinia sp. on Rumex dentatus, Ustilago cynodontis on Cynodan dactylon, Oidium sp.-I on Ageratum conyzoides, Oidium sp-IV on Sida rhombifolia and Peronospora sp. on Chenopodium album are new reports of occurrence of these pathogens from this region.","PeriodicalId":308947,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Research: THE BEDE ATHENÆUM","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126400041","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
