Abstract

This paper examines how a natural disaster in the form of a major earthquake can cause a herculean loss to both life and property. An earthquake leaves the severity of its damage on the affected populations and they need tremendous resilience or ability to recover. April 25th, 2015 the day that was a turning point for Nepal, as it was hit by an earthquake of 7.8 magnitude. The first earthquake that struck Nepal in 1934 killed more than 10, 000 people and the earlier one which hit Nepal was in the year 1988. This paper mentions some extracts of interviews with earthquake victims. Several international search and rescue teams came and helped Nepal. Relief was provided which was brought by them and by several people from the armed forces as well as private volunteers. This study attempts to explain the effects of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) faced by the victims of such a severe earthquake.
