It is a wave-based numerical approach. The advantage of using this method is that it reduces the number of degrees-of-freedom by representing the whole structure using a single element. The present study deals with finding damage in non-uniform structures using the spectral element method. Since the uncertainty is part and parcel of every real structure, it needs to be introduced into every methodology meant for damage detection. Therefore, this method is also used here for the stochastic system to introduce uncertainty in the model. Damage at any location is introduced as a single edge notch crack. The crack introduced is a non-propagating crack. The damage quantity introduced is expressed in terms of crack flexibility-based on the concept of fracture mechanics. At the damage location, the compatibility conditions are to be satisfied. With the help of the boundary as well as compatibility conditions being satisfied, the displacement equation for damaged case in the frequency domain is developed. In order to introduce parametric uncertainty, expressions of spectral stiffness and mass matrices are established using Karhunen-Loéve expansion. The mass and stiffness matrices for the stochastic case are expressed as random field and are discretized in terms of the random variables. Eigenvalue analysis is performed to obtain mode shapes for both damaged and undamaged cases. Difference between the mode shapes is considered to obtain the damage location. The methodology is found to be effective in localizing damage in non-uniform structures in the presence of parametric uncertainty.","PeriodicalId":307663,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Civil, Structural and Transportation Engineering (ICCSTE'19)","volume":"189 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130643289","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Anwar, You Dong","doi":"10.11159/iccste20.281","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.11159/iccste20.281","url":null,"abstract":"The socio-economic wellbeing of a community depends on the proper functioning of its critical infrastructure system. Two most important critical infrastructure systems i.e., Water Network (WN) system, and Electrical and Power Network (EPN) system are crucial for the full functioning of the households, and socio-economic wellbeing of its citizens. After an extreme event, the functionality of the households will be reduced due to the damage in the WN and EPN. The functionality of the WN may also depend on the recovery of the EPN and should be considered for better estimates of the functionality recovery of interdependent critical infrastructure system. In this paper, the restoration modelling of WN is assessed under a maximum considered seismic hazard scenario, considering the dependence on the EPN network. The fragility and consequence functions are utilized for the damage and repair time assessment of each component. The repair times for each component are evaluated and the total repair time of the WN and EPN is determined. The WN and EPN restoration modelling is assessed through network models where the nodes represent the sub-components of a network and edges represent the connection restoration. In the considered example, the WN is fully repaired in 8 days after an earthquake event, while the EPN is fully repaired in 10 days. The WN will therefore be fully functional after 10 days since the power plant component of WN requires electricity from EPN network to pump water form reservoir to the water tank. It is therefore important to consider the dependencies of WN on the EPN for better estimates of functionality recovery of critical utilities to the households.","PeriodicalId":307663,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Civil, Structural and Transportation Engineering (ICCSTE'19)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129009996","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In common with many rail networks, there is a wish to increase capacity on the network while in same time infrastructure managers are dealing with the effects of climate change which can result in catastrophic failures. These climate impacts are most prominent on railway earthworks, especially earth embankments. Longer duration and more intense precipitation events result in number of embankment failures, including soil stability issues, excessive settlements of embankments, etc. All this significantly affects both safety and functionality of railway networks. Continuously increasing axle loads, along with poor drainage conditions and unfavourable geometry of these embankments, where their side slopes tend to be much steeper than modern highway slopes made in similar soils, make them extremely prone to failures. This paper presents several case studies of railway embankment failures occurred on Croatian railway lines, along with challenges that arose during the asset condition assessment, remediation design and remediation works. An insight into remediation contingences due to the specific nature of railway infrastructure is also given, encompassing different engineering aspects.","PeriodicalId":307663,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Civil, Structural and Transportation Engineering (ICCSTE'19)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115045256","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The use of alkali-activated binder, which has less of an impact on the environment due to the use of by-products of other industries such as power generation and burning coal, is on the increase with time. Despite the fact that (Alkali Activated Binder) AAB is currently in area of active research, many models for the prediction of mechanical properties are available, however they follow the OPCC methods or (template) of determining the mechanical properties of AAB. The models available currently use only compressive strength to predict other mechanical properties, without directly addressing the chemical composition of the AAB. The main aim of this study is to provide prediction models for the mechanical properties of AAB and identify the parameters that affect these properties, and to determine the significance of these effects. This research will attempt to collect the data from multiple researches, study the characteristics of each work, and propose models that can describe all the data collected by regression and dimensional analysis. By analysing the collected data from over 50 published papers, with over 500 tested samples, models are generated for determining the Modulus of Elasticity, splitting strength and modulus of rupture of AAB. These models take into account the compressive strength as the most significant characteristic, while also considering the effect of test conditions and the chemical composition of the samples.","PeriodicalId":307663,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Civil, Structural and Transportation Engineering (ICCSTE'19)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134013715","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The corresponding influence law will be obtained. Except for the width-to-thickness ratio of the compressed flange, the stability and safety of 3 × 35m straight beams are better than those of curved beams in each parameter analysis, and the stability and safety of curved beams is more affected by various structural parameters. For 3 × 35m straight beams, from the perspective of stability, it is recommended to consider the 8.75m beam spacing to save steel. From the comprehensive consideration of structural stability and safety and the amount of steel used, it is recommended that the high-span ratio of medium-small-span steel-concrete composite beams be 1/20. Local buckling will occur in the relatively thin positions of the compressed flange and the web. The value of the width-to-thickness ratio of the compressed flange of a straight beam is suggested.","PeriodicalId":307663,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Civil, Structural and Transportation Engineering (ICCSTE'19)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130235410","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Past literature utilized different AI algorithms to predict the nonlinear behaviour of concrete, of which the most commonly used is the Artificial Neural Network (ANN). Limited past studies used the probabilistic inference approach by using Bayesian Networks (BN) to envisage the structural health integrity and mechanical performance of concrete. This research investigates the potential applicability of BN in predicting the compressive strength of self-compacting concrete made with various supplementary cementitious materials and basalt fibers. Two learning algorithms, namely Naïve Bayes and Markov Blanket, were employed along with various discretization methods to maximize network performance and minimize integral absolute error. Research findings showed that Naïve Bayes classifier, coupled with K-means discretization tool with 4 segments of ‘days’ variable and 3 segments of the remaining variables, gave the highest correlation between experimental and predicted values. The accuracy of the predicted BN results was slightly superior to that obtained from the ANN model.","PeriodicalId":307663,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Civil, Structural and Transportation Engineering (ICCSTE'19)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130036536","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The WEAP (Water Assessment and Planning System) model has been calibrated and validated with the historical records of the Rímac, Chillón and Lurín rivers, which have information from the 1965-2019 period. Currently, the supply of drinking water to the city of Lima comes mainly from the Rímac River, with an average flow of 18.63 m3 / s and in the dry season it is complemented by the exploitation of groundwater from the Rímac, Lurín and Chillón Aquifers. with a volume of 287 MMC / year. It is important to indicate that the water resources of the Rímac River are complemented by the contributions of the Macapomacocha I, III and IV projects that contribute a volume of 243.5 MMC / year and the contributions of the Graton tunnel are 158 MMC / year. From the simulations carried out, it is concluded that there is currently a water deficit of 182 MMC / year and a coverage of 81.8%.","PeriodicalId":307663,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Civil, Structural and Transportation Engineering (ICCSTE'19)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124276628","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
