Majority of these refugees are living in Kutupalong-Balukhali, Cox’s Bazar under high congestion and annual disasters (i.e. landslide, cyclones, flood) have put their life in great risk. From this perspective, the study aims on proposing location-allocation based evacuation plan for the Rohingya camp using three different multi objective optimization techniques namely AMOSA [1], NSGA-II [2] and NMGA [2]. GIS is also integrated with the optimization techniques. We selected Camp 8E of the Kutupalong-Balukhali Expansion Site as our case study area.","PeriodicalId":307663,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Civil, Structural and Transportation Engineering (ICCSTE'19)","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114231635","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Few researches were conducted to verify the adequacy of strengthening steel structures by fastening FRPs. The current paper reports on the outcomes of an experimental study aimed at strengthening steel I-beams by fastening hybrid FRP (HFRP) strips. A total of ten UB203x102x23 beams were tested in a four-point loading setup. Steel bolts were used to fasten the HFRP strips to the beam bottom flange. The effect of HFRP length was assessed by considering three scenarios (1,620, 1,170 and 810 mm) that correspond to 90%, 65% and 45% of the clear span length of tested beams. Single and double HFRP strips were utilized to evaluate the effect of HFRP thickness on the performance of the strengthened beams. Staggered and uniform bolt arrangements were used to assess the effect of bolt arrangement on the performance of the fastened systems. All strengthened beams exhibited better yield and ultimate strength as compared to the control beam. Fastening two HFRP strips with lengths of 90% of the beam clear span revealed 21% enhancement in the ultimate capacity of the strengthened beam.","PeriodicalId":307663,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Civil, Structural and Transportation Engineering (ICCSTE'19)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122663780","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Mooring line behaviour plays significant role in controlling the dynamic motions of floating offshore platforms. Hence, studying the parameters affecting mooring line responses is a very important aspect in the hydrodynamic analysis of FPSO. The primary aim of this paper is to investigate the influence of mooring line configurations in different wave headings and mooring line diameter on the restoring behaviour of a Turret-Moored FPSO. Force-excursion relationship of the mooring system is determined using an in-house developed MATLAB code, named MLQSC. Catenary mooring line was adopted in the study, consisting of Chain-Steel wire-Chain, and analyse using Quasi static analysis approach. Four (4) mooring configurations considered are Evenly distributed, 3x4, 4x3 and 6x2 in all cases with respect to 30,35,40 and 45-degree wave headings. The restoring behaviour of mooring configurations considered (consisting of 12 mooring lines) was observed to decrease with an increasing wave heading. Furthermore, the restoring behaviour was observed to decrease with increase in mooring line diameter which by implication increases the corresponding permissible excursion.","PeriodicalId":307663,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Civil, Structural and Transportation Engineering (ICCSTE'19)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125023849","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The influences of fibre types and dosages were evaluated based on slump flow, density, compressive/flexural strength and rapid chloride permeability characteristics. All concrete mixtures satisfied the criteria to be classified as structural LWSCC by exhibiting a slump flow and 28-day compressive strength of more than 500 mm and 17.8 MPa, respectively with a 28-day air dry density of less than 1840 kg/m. The compressive strength and slump flow of LWFRSCC mixtures decreased with the increase of fibre dosage. The good performance of LWSCFRC mixtures were reflected in terms of their lower compressive strength to flexural strength ratio, higher energy absorbing/toughness capacity and similar/better chloride permeability compared to their LWSCC counterpart (without fibre).","PeriodicalId":307663,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Civil, Structural and Transportation Engineering (ICCSTE'19)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133846342","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Three target design compressive strengths were used (30, 45, and 60 MPa). Untreated RCA were used in addition to two types of basalt fibers at volume fractions ranging from 0 to 3%. The basalt fiber types used in this work had lengths of 20 and 43 mm. Locally available desert dune sand was utilized in concrete mixes as a sustainable replacement to conventional crushed fine aggregates. The experimental results showed that the incorporation of basalt fibers resulted in a significant decrease in the workability of fresh concrete. The retention of 7day compressive strength in basalt fiber-reinforced RCA concrete was superior when the design strength was 30 MPa rather than 45 and 60 MPa. The 7-day splitting tensile strength of RCA-based concrete was effectively restored upon the addition of basalt fibers. It exceeded that of the control mixes with higher basalt fiber volume fractions and 43 mm-long basalt fibers.","PeriodicalId":307663,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Civil, Structural and Transportation Engineering (ICCSTE'19)","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123920948","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In Egypt, the length of the railway network is 9570 km, where, 85% of the lines' movements are operated by mechanical signals. In July 2017, the Egyptian government launched a series of railway infrastructure projects aimed to modernize the Egyptian National Railways which includes the infrastructures rehabilitation for the network. This research focuses on developing an efficient low-cost framework using video camera and computer vision techniques for automatic railway track detection. A computer vision technique is used for automatic detection of railway tracks. Interior orientation parameters are extracted as part of the camera calibration task. Bundle adjustment calibration technique is used to compute the exterior orientation parameters based on selected ground control points. Hence, the eye fish effect of the images is removed and orthogonal images for the railway tracks are constructed using matching and feature extraction algorithms. The framework is tested on a dataset of a railway network with an approximate length of 20 km. The accuracy of the results is compared with a field survey data conducted to the same area using conventional surveying instruments such as Total station and Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS). The proposed framework enables automatic extraction of railway tracks and its relationship with surrounding features, which contributes to quality control and assurance procedures for field collected data. The framework also offers a method for continuous and low-cost monitoring of the railway network. This will help to rapidly assess maintenance requirements for the network.","PeriodicalId":307663,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Civil, Structural and Transportation Engineering (ICCSTE'19)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125212634","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper is aimed at presenting a method in which both the mentioned challenges are considered for damage identification in cable-stayed bridges. For this purpose, the damage detection problem is formulated as a modal flexibility-based model updating approach and it is solved utilizing Democratic Particle Swarm Optimization (DPSO) algorithm. DPSO is a modified version of the standard PSO algorithm, which is developed for presenting a tackle the drawbacks of the original PSO algorithm in terms of increasing the algorithm’s speed as well as decreasing the premature convergence rate. The efficiency of the method is demonstrated by studying different damage patterns on the numerical model of a cablestayed bridge. Almost all the obtained results indicate the good performance of the proposed method for the damage localization and quantification of the cable-stayed bridge using only the first several modes’ data.","PeriodicalId":307663,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Civil, Structural and Transportation Engineering (ICCSTE'19)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130741558","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"Performance of Pile Cap Foundation with Respect to Cap Thickness","authors":"Soukayna El Hammouli, A. Hanna, Lan Lin, M. A thin cap perform as a flexible slab which distributes the load on the piles unevenly, and it does not accord with the concept of pile foundation design. On the other hand, a thicker and rigid cap is expected to evenly distribute the load on the piles, as well as resisting bending moments and punching shear failure, but may impose more load on the foundation compared to a thinner cap. In view of these differences, there is a need to determine how the pile cap thickness would affect the performance of piles and pile cap. For this purpose, a 3-D finite element model was developed to simulate a 16-pile cap foundation for a range of cap thickness from 0.5m to 3m. The collected data is in the form of the load on individual piles and the deformation of the cap.","PeriodicalId":307663,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Civil, Structural and Transportation Engineering (ICCSTE'19)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128074963","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"Earthquake Induced Liquefaction Potential of Paste Tailings: Shaking\u0000Table Results","authors":"Fahad Alshawmar, M. Fall","doi":"10.11159/iccste20.159","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.11159/iccste20.159","url":null,"abstract":"Highly densified tailings, such as paste tailings, are a novel technology of tailings (soils produced by mining activities) disposal and management. Paste tailings are generated from the significant dewatering of the slurry tailings produced in the mine processing plant. This technology provides numerous benefits to the mines, such as reduction of the dependency on conventional tailings dams with their associated risks (disastrous geotechnical and environmental failures) and the increase in water recovery and recycling. However, regulators are worried about liquefaction potential of paste tailings deposits in regions that are prone to earthquakes. Up to date, no investigations have been conducted to evaluate the liquefaction potential of paste tailings using a shaking table. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to evaluate the liquefaction potential of paste tailings under seismic loading conditions using one-dimensional shaking table equipment. The paste tailings were deposited in thin layers and were subjected to the atmospheric desiccation process in order to gain strength before performing the shaking table tests. The paste tailings deposit was subjected to a sinusoidal dynamic loading with a frequency of 1 Hz and peak horizontal acceleration of 0.13 g. The variation of pore-water pressure within paste tailings deposit was monitored during the shaking test. The test results showed that the paste tailings can be susceptible to liquefaction under the considered testing conditions.","PeriodicalId":307663,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Civil, Structural and Transportation Engineering (ICCSTE'19)","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134044181","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
