The system consists of a three-channel laser sensor and a regular tetrahedral target. With three lasers, the sensor placed at a stationary position away from the railway track gets the 3-dimensional displacement of a target on the railway track. The structural displacement is computed in real time through processing the measured data. A clever conversion formula developed in this paper enables measurement of 3D displacement by tracking three sets of one-dimensional data of a target without vision technology. The efficacy of the laser system in 3D displacement measurement of the railway track was demonstrated through a fine-tuning table test. The maximum error is 1mm, which nearly equals to the accuracy of the laser sensor. An artificial means of marking the target is also proposed to further improve the adaptability of the system to the dark environment.","PeriodicalId":306461,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 7th International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Applications (ICIEA)","volume":"246 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115595642","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective is to select the subset of customers that maximize the expected total prize collected in the given time (taking into account of the total travel time spent visiting them). Random Restart Local Search is a heuristic method widely used to solve combinatorial optimization problems. In particular, it is used in conjunction with local search procedures to escape from local optima. The method works by restarting the optimization search once no further improvement is possible by the embedded local search component. Each restart is associated with a new initial solution for the optimization, and selecting such restart initial solutions play an important role in the success of the overall algorithm. In this work we propose a method to effectively selecting such solutions, and we present an empirical study to validate our ideas.","PeriodicalId":306461,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 7th International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Applications (ICIEA)","volume":"109 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123215813","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the different sizes and nature of customer orders and different capacities of trucks, an order might be split onto more than one truck. The problem then becomes not only of finding the optimal routes, but further of how to divide the orders between trucks. In this paper, the VRP with split strategy, considering heterogeneous fleet and orders is approached. The problem was first formulated as a mixed integer programming model (MILP) with a total transportation cost minimization objective. Due to the complexity of the problem, a two-phase solution algorithm was further proposed to solve the problem. The algorithm first constructs the routes sequentially based on the savings function, then it employs a 2-opt algorithm to improve the routes. The algorithm was applied to solve the problem for a fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) distribution company. Results indicated that the algorithm is able to minimize the number of required trucks and satisfy all customer orders, while minimizing the transportation cost.","PeriodicalId":306461,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 7th International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Applications (ICIEA)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121756148","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents an application of discrete-time model predictive control (MPC) subject to input/states constraints to control an AMB system based on linear time-invariant (LTI) model. The main control objectives are to levitate the rotor shaft of the AMB system while tracking a reference trajectory and to reject possible disturbances without violating the input and state constraints. A nonlinear (NL) model of the AMB system is considered; at each sampling instant, a finite horizon MPC problem is solved to compute the optimal control input. The performance and the efficiency of the proposed MPC is validated via simulation and comparison with another classical PID controller.","PeriodicalId":306461,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 7th International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Applications (ICIEA)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114965661","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Traditional seating arrangement is commonly used in classrooms, but it does not usually work for most students. This research adapted various designs of seating arrangements for Statistics classes of Grade 11 students to determine its effects on these students' academic performance. After completing the discussion for the selected topic, an examination was given to the students and their respective scores were collected and analyzed. Using one-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Tukey's post-hoc test, the test scores revealed that the different seating arrangements have different effects on the performance of these students. This concludes that students must be arranged in a seating design that would allow for collaboration and interaction between them and their teacher since this will help in enhancing their academic performance.","PeriodicalId":306461,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 7th International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Applications (ICIEA)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130155683","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
