However, it triggers some problems during the learning process. The problems exist because of various aspects. One of them is the way how the teachers implement the learning process. This research is aimed to investigate how students perceive the online learning implementation in higher education based on four categories (Planning Promotion, Education, Support Training, and Encouragement). It is descriptive-survey research using a questionnaire as the instrument to collect the data. The result shows various perceptions of students. The average students perceive: 1) implementation of online learning is well planned, 2) the lecturers are competent enough in implementing the online learning, 3) they got sufficient support during the online learning, and 4) the online learning situation encourages them in the learning process. This research result can be used as an evaluation for the stakeholders (lecturers and decision-makers) for the online learning implementation.","PeriodicalId":305947,"journal":{"name":"ELLITE: Journal of English Language, Literature, and Teaching","volume":"98 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121196108","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It applied a mixed method (Cresswell: 2018). The subject of this research includes shop signs, slogans, and also some of the advertising signs displayed in the sites. The signs were then seen from the number of languages displayed and their source. For the analysis, it adopted the view of Scollon and Scollon and Scollon-Wong (2003). Based on the results of the analysis, the signs can be classified as monolingual, bilingual, or multilingual. The languages displayed there are Indonesian, Javanese, English, Japanese, Arabic. The first three languages are the dominant in any kind of signs collected from these sites. The presence of more than a language in sign has proved that the languages displayed tend to be complement to each other as they bear different information (and sometimes) functions. English is taken for its commerciality and prestige, Indonesian is employed for its communicative role, and Javanese is relied for its shared identity and closeness. Although Bahasa Indonesia is the official language used, this does not mean that other languages will have a little share in the linguistic landscape. The total data used were 519 signboards which were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. This research found that in monolingual boards, the use of English was 23.7%, and Indonesian was 73.5%. The magnitude of the use of English, which is close to as salient as the use of Bahasa Indonesia, is particularly shown on the bilingual and multilingual signboards. This study highlights discussion on the representation of power of English in the investigated signboards, which was shown from the number of appearance and combination of English and other languages in the signboards. It is revealed that English is expressed not only for informative reasons but also for symbolic reasons such as indexing sophistication, cosmopolitanism, and fashionable appearance.","PeriodicalId":305947,"journal":{"name":"ELLITE: Journal of English Language, Literature, and Teaching","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130200522","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using a qualitative systematic review, the researchers searched 24 journal articles on the use of Instagram in English language teaching and learning in Google Scholar for data saturation and analysis. This entailed reading and re-reading the manuscripts, followed by coding the data, with each pass enhancing and modifying the codes. The study showed that Instagram could be used as a teaching tool for English language learners and helpful in their English learning. Teachers should use the chance to make the most of this advancement and start using Instagram in the classroom. Because Instagram is one of the most popular social media platforms, students can practice writing about their daily activities and provide feedback on their classmates' writing. According to this study, using Instagram to teach students how to write descriptive writings is beneficial. Furthermore, the experimental students given Instagram media therapy outperformed control students. The results can be significant inputs for English language teachers to use Instagram in real classrooms. English language teachers are not exceptions. In continuing their professional development, teachers actually have flexibility to choose either training or self-directed CPD approach. Therefore, it is assumed that depending on the gender and the career developmental stage that they are in, teachers may choose different CPD approach. Thus, this study was aimed to see the relationship between teachers’ career developmental stage, gender and their selection of CPD approaches. In order to achieve that, this study employed descriptive quantitative approach. The participant involved were 54 EFL teachers in Majalengka, West Java. The data were collected by using questionnaires. Chi-square was used in order to test the three hypotheses. The result revealed that the teachers mainly showed positive comments on CPD. Furthermore, it was found that there was a significant relationship between the teachers’ career developmental stages and CPD approaches. On the other hand, the findings signified that there was no relationship between gender of the teachers and their CPD approaches. As the recommendation it is expected that the teachers could maintain and regulate their commitment on continuing professional development. In addition, the government, especially the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture is also expected to provide wider variety of professional development approaches so as to bridge the diverse preferences for continuing professional development (CPD) of the teachers in Indonesian setting.","PeriodicalId":305947,"journal":{"name":"ELLITE: Journal of English Language, Literature, and Teaching","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123295794","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Needless to say, the goal of instructional process needs to shift from student centred learning to promoting learner autonomy. Yet, it is important to conduct a study which learn the students’ capacity to be autonomous. This present study aims at investigating learners’ autonomous learning capacity during this outbreak. The researcher employed a mix method design where the data obtained were presented in both quantitative and qualitative perspectives. There are total 30 higher education students chosen to be the subjects of the present study. The data were gathered through different instruments; questionnaire and semi structured interview. The questionnaire comprises five major aspects in measuring learners’ capacity in autonomous learning. In order to achieve the credibility of the data, the researchers’ employs triangulation of data. The results of the study showed that learners have the capacity of autonomous learning to some extent. Learners are quite self-directed in the aspects of defining content and progression, monitor the procedure of acquiring knowledge, and doing self-evaluation. Meanwhile, the aspects of setting objectives and selecting method to learn need to be improved. The findings imply that optimization of learning is a must despite all boundaries that challenge both learners and educators.","PeriodicalId":305947,"journal":{"name":"ELLITE: Journal of English Language, Literature, and Teaching","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130758810","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Campaign is selected as the source of media to gather data since the utterances tend to be more complete and not cut by mediator as if in a debate. The researcher employs a corpus analysis to study the commissive acts produced by USA presidential candidates. The researcher built his own corpus by transcribing the data from the speech of the candidates. There are total 9246 words built as the corpora of this study. The data were then calculated by using Antconc 3.5.8 software to look at the occurrences and class of commissive acts appeared. Further, the researcher also provided an in-depth description of the analysis to support the findings of the study. The study found out that there were more commissive acts performed by Donald Trump compared to Joe Bidden with 87 and 77 respectively. The speech of Donald Trump in his campaign also contains more classes of commissive acts compared to Joe Bidden’s campaign which are 4 classes and 3 classes respectively. It is expected that this study contributes to the board of knowledge in pragmatics area, corpus analysis, and specifically to commissive act production.
