These MOEAs aim to search for a uniformly distributed, near-optimal and near-complete Pareto front for a given MOP. However, MOEAs fail to achieve their aim completely because of their fixed population size. To overcome this limit, an evolutionary approach of multi-objective optimization was proposed; the dynamic multi-objective evolutionary algorithms (DMOEAs). This paper deals with improving the user requirements (i.e., getting a set of optimal solutions in minimum computational time). Although, DMOEA has the distinction of dynamic population size, being an evolutionary algorithm means that it will certainly be characterized by long execution time. One of the main reasons for adapting parallel evolutionary algorithms (PEAs) is to obtain efficient results with an execution time much lower than the one of their sequential counterparts in order to tackle more complex problems. Thus, we propose a parallel version of DMOEA (i.e., PDMOEA). As experimental results, the proposed PDMOEA enhances DMOEA in terms of three criteria: improving the objective space, minimization of computational time and converging to the desired population size.","PeriodicalId":302120,"journal":{"name":"2021 22nd International Arab Conference on Information Technology (ACIT)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122934122","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Assessment of students' performance is of great importance for themselves as well as benefitting the educational institutes. In this regard, main attributes are generally proclaimed in the educational data mining (EDM) settings as a significant concern in learning analytics. In this research, we improved the prediction of students' performance. We evaluated the features containing six attributes in several domains: demographic, personal, academic, parental support, psychometric, and learning logs. The prediction of different classification algorithms using ensemble methods affects the accuracy and comprehensibility of the early prediction. To do so, we improvised attributes selection techniques applied to the data containing 11814 students in the biology course. The validation of the classification algorithms achieves better accuracy with ensemble methods. The result performances show the appropriateness of performing prediction and evaluating both filter and wrapper-based methods for feature selection. Our findings also show the students' performance with the most impactful features using ensemble methods and the feasibility of creating a prediction model with a reasonable accuracy rate.","PeriodicalId":302120,"journal":{"name":"2021 22nd International Arab Conference on Information Technology (ACIT)","volume":"57 4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127661134","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The survey aims to determine if there is room for improvement to HVAC control and prediction. While the survey reviewed HVAC control in different environments such as building and transportation vehicles, the scope of the survey is aimed to address HVAC control in vehicles. Efficiency has become very critical as the automotive industry takes the path of electric vehicles and therefore many types of approaches to control HVAC in an effort to increase energy consumption efficiency while maintaining consumer comfortability. A proposal to use both LDA and Kalman Decomposition to provide comfort and efficiency has not been found to be implemented and would be a good study to explore. It can lead to impaired driving and potential accidents. Detecting driver distraction most often relies on analyzing a photo or video of the driver being distracted. This involves complex deep learning models which often can only be ran on computers too powerful and expensive to implement into automobiles. This paper presents a method of detecting driver distraction using computer vision methods within an embedded environment. By taking the deep learning architecture SqueezeNet, which is optimized for embedded deployment, and benchmarking it on a Jetson Nano embedded computer, this paper demonstrates a viable method of detecting driver distraction in real time. The method shown here involves making slight modifications to SqueezeNet to be trained on the AUC Distracted Driver Dataset, yielding accuracies as high as 93% when detecting distracted driving.","PeriodicalId":302120,"journal":{"name":"2021 22nd International Arab Conference on Information Technology (ACIT)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123772920","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With the recent advancements in deep learning applications and the vast amounts of data available, it is possible to secure human-like performance in several tasks. One of these tasks is distinguishing the common-sense in sentences in different languages in general, and in Arabic in specific. The Arabic commonsense validation is still a growing area in tackling the Arabic language understanding domain. In this paper, a set of multilingual pre-trained transformer models were employed. These models were trained and tested using a dataset of the commonsense understanding in the Arabic field. The dataset contains 12 thousand pairs of sentences. The two sentences, in every pair, are very similar in syntax; however, one of these sentences is logical (makes sense) and the other is illogical. BERT, XLM-MLM and XLM-Roberta models were fine-tuned to discover the logical sentences in the sentence pairs. The best result was achieved using XLM-Roberta with an accuracy equals to 81.2%.","PeriodicalId":302120,"journal":{"name":"2021 22nd International Arab Conference on Information Technology (ACIT)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126455335","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In Saudi Arabia, the government has relied on several mobile apps to deal with different issues related to COVID-19, but so far there have not been enough studies conducted in the country to determine whether these mobile apps satisfy the principles of usability. This study takes a heuristic approach to evaluate and measure the usability of these apps. In particular, this study used SMART heuristics since they are designed specifically to evaluate usability on mobile devices and found that the apps Saudi Arabia has used during the pandemic suffer from several usability issues. We discuss these issues in detail and make recommendations to app designers in order to increase usability in their mobile apps.","PeriodicalId":302120,"journal":{"name":"2021 22nd International Arab Conference on Information Technology (ACIT)","volume":"63 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130651194","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

After LBP evolution diverse LBP variants are launched in unconstrained conditions. The main problem with LBP and other descriptors are that in extreme illumination changes their performances are not adequate that's why improvements were suggested and implemented. Precisely proposed work suggests improvements to 3 local descriptors i.e. LBP, Horizontal Elliptical LBP (HELBP) and Median Binary Pattern (MBP). The improvements were suggested by deploying 2 Dimensional-Discrete Wavelet Transform (2D-DWT) prior to feature extraction. After employing 2D-DWT (utilizing haar at level 1), the input image is decomposed into 4 sub-bands. First one signifies approximation coefficient and rest three signifies detail coefficients which are horizontal, vertical and diagonal. Then LBP, HELBP and MBP histograms were separately extracted from 4 wavelet sub-bands. The sub-band histograms were fused for developing the respective descriptor feature length. These 3 improved descriptors are defined as 2D-DWT+LBP, 2D-DWT+HELBP and 2D-DWT+MBP. Fishers Linear Discriminant Analysis (FLDA) was used for reducing the dimension. Then classification was attained by the Radial Basis Function (RBF) (the Support Vector Machines (SVMs) based method). On Yale B (YB) and Extended YB (EYB) datasets, improved descriptors beats the outcome of original descriptors completely.","PeriodicalId":302120,"journal":{"name":"2021 22nd International Arab Conference on Information Technology (ACIT)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132218651","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
