The new technique is based on the concepts derived from the robust statistics and can be regarded as a generalization of the median filter. The filter output is the pixel minimizing the trimmed cumulated sum of intensity distances to all other pixels belonging to the same filtering window. The performed experiments revealed that the new technique offers much better performance than the standard median filter. The unique feature of the new denoising scheme is its ability to sharpen image edges, while preserving its details.","PeriodicalId":298835,"journal":{"name":"IISA 2014, The 5th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123760172","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This need is even greater in vehicular environments, in which the nodes are characterized by high mobility. In this paper, we study the basic protocols for mobility support in vehicular environments, such as Fast Handovers for Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6) and Transient Binding for PMIPv6, and analyze the handover delay and their performance. Moreover, we present vehicular environment scenarios in which the current protocols fail to provide seamless handovers for the mobile nodes, due to long delays and large percentages of packet loss. Additionally, we propose an enhanced handover scheme for Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs), in which data follow the optimal path to the destination and is characterized by a smooth transition of the mobile node to the target access network. Finally, by evaluating the performance of the proposed scheme a significant decrease of the total handover delay compared with the one of reactive and predictive handovers of FPMIP, as well as, in false prediction scenarios of the target access network is observed.","PeriodicalId":298835,"journal":{"name":"IISA 2014, The 5th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131406123","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They are situated close to the international trade routes and are the main hubs with the necessary infrastructure for the accommodation of transhipment cargo, connecting with all regional ports. Thus, the protection of the ports' infrastructure may act as a significant catalyst for urban regeneration and the development of the local and regional business and manufacturing sector. However, the lack of a harmonization approach in treating their cyber and physical issues is considered the most important obstacle in the way the ports manage their security and safety bridges in the maritime world. In this context, the paper presents a collaborative environment where the ports can visualize their security practices and procedures, exchange knowledge, experience and expertise in resolving their daily security problems.","PeriodicalId":298835,"journal":{"name":"IISA 2014, The 5th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications","volume":"96 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126275917","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, although fidelity has to be reduced to achieve better performance, there are certain limits as its reduction is totally perceived and negatively judged by the users in case of close observation. Furthermore, immersion of a user is one of the essential elements for efficiently experiencing the cultural aspects of the implemented virtual environment. In this paper, the various phases (requirements, design and implementation) for constructing a large scale virtual environment that highlights cultural heritage aspects are presented and the results are being evaluated by user tests. To enable the expansion of the virtual environment over an extended area, the integration of GIS mechanisms is also proposed to guide users and enhance their experience. Segmentation of the virtual environment is also proposed to make development manageable and improve performance.","PeriodicalId":298835,"journal":{"name":"IISA 2014, The 5th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133597251","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The method consists of three main parts, with the first step being feature extraction, which involves the calculation of three feature sets that correspond to music timbre, rhythm and harmony. Next, for each feature set a Deep Belief Network was trained without supervision on a large music collection. The respective distances of the output units of the Deep Belief Networks between two music excerpts are computed, normalized and finally combined to form the distance measure. The proposed method was evaluated on the MIREX 2013 Audio Music Similarity task. Results are encouraging, however, they indicate that the harmonic similarity component degrades the performance.","PeriodicalId":298835,"journal":{"name":"IISA 2014, The 5th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications","volume":"196 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115134854","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

CommYouTer enables the user to (1) document his public transit trips with automated transfer detection, (2) participate in crowdsourcing real-time traffic conditions and other relevant data, and (3) query for efficient commuting directions via a traffic-sensitive routing algorithm. For transit journaling, the app offers a recording feature that uses the smartphone's GPS antenna and accelerometer to track the user's location and activity. Activity detection is applied to the mobile phone's accelerometer data to differentiate between two user states (walking vs. non-walking), which are then used to determine vehicle transfers along the journey. We also implement our modification of RAPTOR, an existing round-based public transit routing algorithm. Our modification allows the system to account for real-time crowdsourced traffic conditions. We test our system in Metro Manila, Philippines, where public transit is primarily headway-based (non-scheduled).","PeriodicalId":298835,"journal":{"name":"IISA 2014, The 5th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications","volume":"90 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116264866","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

MQ is also shown in the literature to outperform Vector Quantization (VQ) when applied over noisy channels. Considering that most sources of practical interest are non-stationary, this paper introduces a technique which adapts MQ to varying source statistics and optimizes MQ for noisy channels, thus designs a matrix quantizer/decoder that considers both non-stationary source and noisy channel statistics. The resulting algorithm, Combined Source Adaptive and Channel Optimized Matrix Quantization (CSACOMQ) is evaluated for a source modelled as the non-stationary Wiener process and over the memoryless Binary Symmetric Channel (BSC). It is shown that CSACOMQ offers substantial Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) performance improvement compared to the Channel Optimized Matrix Quantization (COMQ).","PeriodicalId":298835,"journal":{"name":"IISA 2014, The 5th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130005492","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Energy is an essential component of life in cities, as it supports the whole spectrum of their economic activities, and secures a certain level of quality of life to residents. Nowadays cities tend to become “Smarter”, usually disregarding the issues of energy efficiency and sustainability. The current work provides City Authorities with an effective framework to assess the behavior and performance of a City, reflecting the clearly quantifiable energy related indicators, but also the related policy context performance and the integration of Smart infrastructure. The framework can be designed generally for the whole activities spectrum of a city, but it can also be customized per sector, providing more focused information.","PeriodicalId":298835,"journal":{"name":"IISA 2014, The 5th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127559774","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
