Risk management is particularly significant when it comes to software projects. This is because software projects are exposed to various serious risks, including interaction with humans, need for continuous development and occasional lack of proper evaluation procedures. These factors, combined with the extensive diversity of software projects, have caused the complexity of management of their risk to increase. The problem is even more intense when it comes to educational software. At this instant, the literature for identifying and managing risks associated with educational software is very limited, despite the fact that the application area of educational software is constantly expanding at a very high rate. In this paper, we identify additional risks that arise during the development of online educational software on top of the already defined, software development-related risks. Towards this goal, a questionnaire with potential risks has been created, and participants in a related survey have been asked to evaluate them. Preliminary results of this survey are presented.","PeriodicalId":298835,"journal":{"name":"IISA 2014, The 5th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications","volume":"310 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123478515","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Because of that, sloggy drawings might require much less bends than the corresponding drawings in the slog drawing model. On the positive side, we prove a closed-form formula on the number of bends of sloggy drawings. In contrast to this positive result, we show that there exist graphs whose sloggy drawings require exponential area. Since the complexity of the problem is still unknown and there is no polynomial-time algorithm to compute sloggy drawings, we give an ILP formulation that results in sloggy drawings that are optimal with respect to an objective function that weights the total number of diagonal crossings against the number of bends per edge.","PeriodicalId":298835,"journal":{"name":"IISA 2014, The 5th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications","volume":"77 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-08-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126228858","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The platform's architecture is modular, allowing the introduction of new functionality or connection to new systems to collect needed data. All data can be analyzed and presented though interactive visualizations to find correlations between metrics, to make predictions for students or student groups, to identify best practices for instructors and let them explore 'what-if' scenarios, to offer students personalized recommendations and personalized detailed feedback, etc. Our objective is to inform and empower all stakeholders to improve the learning experience.","PeriodicalId":298835,"journal":{"name":"IISA 2014, The 5th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications","volume":"229 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-08-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122619808","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Terrorist groups can use sophisticated methods which involve explosives, biological and radioactive agents, and also new threats involving “digital” attacks. Ports represent significant challenges when implementing new security measures. They cover large geographical areas, they have very complex operations, they service large numbers of passengers and they process large volumes of goods. Maintaining high efficiency in the transportation of goods and passengers is vital to a port. As well as efficient surveillance and access control, this requires efficient organizational and technological interfaces, linking ports to border control authorities, the police, other intervention forces, and transport and logistics operators. Research and Innovation have also shown that the complexity and cost of port operations for intra-European freight is one of the major obstacles for shifting more freight from roads onto sea. The introduction of new security measures can easily make this situation worse and it is important to start to look at how one can improve security while, hopefully, reducing operational complexity and cost in European ports. In order to achieve that, new approaches on risk assessment are being considered through FP7 research cooperation projects such as SUPPORT or CONTAIN.","PeriodicalId":298835,"journal":{"name":"IISA 2014, The 5th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications","volume":"110 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-08-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124256783","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Anticipatory systems allow intelligent control of complex systems by predicting their future state. In the current work, an intelligent model aimed at implementing anticipatory monitoring and control in energy industry is presented and tested. More particularly, a set of support vector regressors (SVRs) are trained using both historical and observed data. The trained SVRs are used to predict the future value of the system based on current operational system parameter. The predicted values are then inputted to a fuzzy logic based module where the values are fused to obtain a single value, i.e., final system output prediction. The methodology is tested on real turbine degradation datasets. The outcome of the approach presented in this paper highlights the superiority over single support vector regressors. In addition, it is shown that appropriate selection of fuzzy sets and fuzzy rules plays an important role in improving system performance.","PeriodicalId":298835,"journal":{"name":"IISA 2014, The 5th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications","volume":"59 6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-08-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123389963","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main aim of the work is to identify and describe the mechanisms that the attributes of source content (and its encoding properties) influence the learning process and the involved emotional aspects in terms of Quality of Experience and Learning (QoE & QoL) parameters. Subjective sentiment analysis tests are implemented along with QoE /QoL evaluation parameters and perceptually-adapted QoE metrics in real-world mediated learning scenarios. The obtained knowledge would be very helpful while preparing and designing audiovisual mediated tutoring and/or broadcasted distance learning courses, but also in many other fields associated with multimedia quality of experience and sentiment analysis.","PeriodicalId":298835,"journal":{"name":"IISA 2014, The 5th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications","volume":"93 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115320103","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The ever increasing mobile population can assist mobile learning which focuses on the mobility of learners and instructors, interacting with portable technologies. In this paper, the implementation of a mobile authoring tool, which is called m-MALL Author, is presented. M-MALL Author offers the instructors the possibility of creating and editing the learning material of the English, German and French language on the spot and predominately by using mobile phones. Thereafter, the learners are able to use their mobile phones to have access to the theory and tests. Instructors can monitor the performance of their learners by using their mobile phones, and thus they can provide advice tailored to the latter's needs. Both instructors and learners can communicate by using the application installed in their mobile phones. Finally, using mobile tools for authoring learning materials becomes an important part of the educational process.","PeriodicalId":298835,"journal":{"name":"IISA 2014, The 5th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications","volume":"74 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116641655","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is due to the fact that on the one hand, the educational material has to be incorporated into the new artifacts and, on the other hand, the educational process should change in a dynamic way, according to the user profile (category), the current performance of the student, and the requirements defined by the teacher. In the present paper, the steps which have been made towards the above mentioned directions, in order to develop an ethno-oriented learning methodology of Russian language by Greek students are presented. More specifically, we focus on Russian motion verbs, using multimedia tools for the achievement of an optimum presentation of the educational material. At the same time, students' behavior is monitored in real time, and we try to define to what extent the training material has been understood. In this way, we are able to decide what category each student belongs to, what he knows or ignores and, finally, how the educational process must continue.","PeriodicalId":298835,"journal":{"name":"IISA 2014, The 5th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications","volume":"116 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123790891","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The MapReduce programming model focuses on processing and generating large data sets. Using the values obtained by computing the Jaccard similarity coefficients for two very large graphs, we have analysed the connections and influences that some nodes have over the other nodes. Furthermore, we have shown how Apache Hadoop framework and MapReduce programming model can be used for high volume computations. All tests were performed on a distributed cluster in order to obtain the results described in the paper.","PeriodicalId":298835,"journal":{"name":"IISA 2014, The 5th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126808449","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
