The AI trends and scenarios have been elicited using expert Delphi as well as via a simulation of a hybrid discrete-time and discrete-event control system. The system components include a complex information society model, which describes the evolution of social, economic and scientific factors relevant to the production and adsorption of intelligent technologies. The discrete-event component is tailored to model the and science and technology (S&T) development processes in each area under consideration. We specifically investigated the development of intelligent internet technologies, including e-health, e-government and expert systems. Special attention has been paid to decision support systems, digital creativity, and recommenders. Other project work-packages encompass neurocognitive and computer vision systems, as well as quantum and molecular computing. Finally, we will present the results related to the evolution of rule-based and creativity support systems in the context of global economic and research trends.","PeriodicalId":298835,"journal":{"name":"IISA 2014, The 5th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121282882","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Wyner in 1975 and it was later developed by many researchers. This concept executes special randomized encoding in order to prevent information leaking over the wire-tap channel while maintaining a reliable information transmission over the main channel. The difference between the wire-tap and the main channel is in a different level of noises in these channels or an existing of feedback channel as a part of the main channel. We present a short review regarding the main results of WTCC and its applications in communication engineering. But the goal of this paper is to “go back to nature and society” and to try to find some examples of this concept presence in nature and society. We show that among such examples it is possible to count the camouflage in the animal kingdom, the genetic code, and natural languages. We are unable to present rigorous total proofs of the WTCC presence in the mentioned phenomena, but we hope to motivate the IT community to find some new examples of such presence in both nature and society.","PeriodicalId":298835,"journal":{"name":"IISA 2014, The 5th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121362905","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Bipolar Disorder is a recurrent and highly disabling psychiatric illness that evolves constantly in time and often leads to crucial incidents. We focus on Bipolar Depression and especially on a Breakthrough Depressive Episode scenario that occurs when a patient shows depressive symptoms during pharmaceutical treatment. Using Semantic Web Technologies we developed SybillaTUC, a prototype Clinical Decision Support System which combines the clinical guidelines for Bipolar Disorder with a patient's condition and his medical record. The system is able to predict the evolution of the disease for each patient, alerting the clinician on the possibility of a crucial incident suggesting optimal treatment.","PeriodicalId":298835,"journal":{"name":"IISA 2014, The 5th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications","volume":"82 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128417004","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is particularly true for energy policy related local planning. It is indeed crucial for the city authorities to know how optimal their use of energy is, by collecting and analyzing multidisciplinary data sets. In this framework and for the needs of a DSS concerning smart cities, this paper presents OMIMS (Online Multidisciplinary Information Management Software), a cross-platform web based software tool, able to assess non-homogeneous variables in a smart city environment. OMIMS is based on the 2-tuple representation model of F. Herrera, enhanced with multiple visual and collaborative tools. Along with OMIMS, we provide a Pilot Appraisal in order to present its potentials for fruitful decision analysis.","PeriodicalId":298835,"journal":{"name":"IISA 2014, The 5th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115394273","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the classification of a text as readable is based solely in its linguistic complexity and does not take into account the skills of the intended reader. In this paper, we make a first attempt to study user-specific text readability. We focus on readers with dyslexia and documents written in English and Greek. Central to our approach is the notion of the user's profile which carries information regarding the linguistic difficulties a user with dyslexia may experience. Based on the user's profile, we develop heuristics for evaluating text's readability for the specific user. The developed heuristics are incorporated in the text classification services of the iLearnRW1 project, aiming to facilitate the selection of appropriate/suitable reading resources for children with dyslexia.","PeriodicalId":298835,"journal":{"name":"IISA 2014, The 5th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114920864","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The austerity oriented policies imposed, combine low incomes with increased fuel/energy prices, a fact that inevitably leads to the households' inability to adequately meet their energy needs. This phenomenon has currently become very intense in Greece, especially in mountainous settlements. In this paper, after a short review of the context of the problem, focus is given on the main causes of energy poverty in the mountainous areas of Greece. It is proved that mountainous settlements in Greece apart from having higher energy needs than urban areas, face, additionally, serious difficulties in covering their energy needs sufficiently. Therefore, a high percentage of 90% of the households in mountainous Greece is vulnerable to energy poverty. In addition, the current energy policies have proved to be insufficient since they cannot alleviate the problem and, therefore, need revision.","PeriodicalId":298835,"journal":{"name":"IISA 2014, The 5th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125369028","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this purpose, a novel declarative language for modelling ubiquitous, contextual AR environments is employed. The language, called CARL - Contextual Augmented Reality Language, enables modularisation of the structure of AR scenes and the presented AR content. CARL separates specification of three categories of entities constituting an AR environment - trackable markers, content objects and interfaces. Particular entities may be selectively added to an AR scene, which makes the language flexible and particularly well suited for building dynamic AR systems.","PeriodicalId":298835,"journal":{"name":"IISA 2014, The 5th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128165353","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The key functions of the infrastructure are the aggregation of metadata and digital files and the automatic validation of metadata records and digital material for compliance with desired quality specifications. The system that has recently moved to production, is currently being employed to ensure the quality standards of the output of more than 70 projects that support Greek cultural heritage organisations and are funded by the European Union structural funds. These projects are expected to produce more than 1.5 million digitised and born-digital items accompanied with detailed metadata. The validation is based on a set of quality and interoperability specifications that have been developed for the purpose. In this paper we emphasize on Validator and Aggregator components and present experimental results of their scalability.","PeriodicalId":298835,"journal":{"name":"IISA 2014, The 5th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126704063","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They reduce reaction time, vigilance, alertness and concentration, therefore, the ability of performing attention-based activities (such as driving) is impaired. In this paper, a drowsy driver detection system has been developed, using video processing analyzing eyes blinking concepts for measuring eyes closure duration and head posture estimation to verify the driver vigilance state. There are two contributions in this paper. the first one resides in combining two parameters of drowsiness analysis. The second is the creation of a new method of head posture estimation.","PeriodicalId":298835,"journal":{"name":"IISA 2014, The 5th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications","volume":"490 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125115742","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
