The application of communication and computer technologies is introduced in the different phases of the actuation. On this research, a model of assistance in catastrophes is developed, based on an expert system for triage classification and a general center for the coordination of all data and resources, providing the neccesary transfer of information between the site of the emergency and the other centers involved. Some guidelines related to system integration are given as a essential part of the project.","PeriodicalId":297811,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society Volume 13: 1991","volume":"218 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1991-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122930727","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The error sensitivity of the gradient calculation increases significantly with decreasing electrode separation and increasing common-mode voltage. For example, a mean error in calculated gradient magnitude of 67% results when measuring a 5 V/cm gradient at 50 V common-mode with 2 mm interelectrode spacing and random 1 % voltage error. Optimization of interelectrode spacing and common-mode voltage to reduce overall error is essential for accurate measurement of low magnitude epicardial gradients.","PeriodicalId":297811,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society Volume 13: 1991","volume":"50 8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1991-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122216370","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specifically, the effects of the intramural rotation of the fiber axes and resistive inhomogeneity on the pattern of activation were examined. Two models were built, with 28,977 microscopic elements arranged in rectangular parallelpipeds in each model. Simulations used the nonlinear Ebihara and Johnson membrane equations for the fast sodium current. Constructed models had histologic features of ventricular myocardium. All simulations were performed on an IBM 3090 at the Utah Supercomputer Institute.","PeriodicalId":297811,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society Volume 13: 1991","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1991-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128534846","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We investigated temperature distributions in and around an array of seven interstitial antennas used for microwave cancer therapy. A calculated temperature distribution has wide heating region. The computed distribution meets experimental one. The simulation follows the three steps. 1) Solving the Helmholtz equation, we obtain an electric field from an electric current along an antenna. Here, we used a measured current distribution along a coaxial-slot antenna [l]. 2) We derive a specific absorption rate (SAR) from the electric field intensity obtained. And, 3) we obtain a computed temperature distribution from the SAR by solving a heat transfer equation. Solving equations in 1) and 3), we use the three-dimensional finite element method (3-D FEM).","PeriodicalId":297811,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society Volume 13: 1991","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1991-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128783273","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It consists of fourteen platinum stimulation electrodes embedded within a self-curling sheet of biocompatible isolation exhibiting a spiral transverse cross section. Development was based on results obtained by hystological examination of peripheral nerves planned to be stimulated and on models of excitation of myelinated nerve fibers. The number of stimulating electrodes which are activated depends on the diameter of the stimulated nerve. Nerves with greater diameter automatically activate more electrodes than thin ones.","PeriodicalId":297811,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society Volume 13: 1991","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1991-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128246697","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
