Chest expansion is an important diagnostic criterion. The current methods used are mechanical in nature and lack precision. The objective was to make a device which can measure the chest expansion digitally. Ultrasound sensors have been known to be useful in the measurement of distance. This concept was extended to measuring chest expansion. The subject is made to stand in front of the device and the chest expansion is computed by measuring the distance by means of the ultrasound waves. The device contains an ultrasound transceiver connected to a microcontroller and the results are displayed on a LCD display. The entire unit runs off a 9-volt battery. It is compact and mobile. The device was tested on 30 healthy people with favorable results.","PeriodicalId":291361,"journal":{"name":"2015 E-Health and Bioengineering Conference (EHB)","volume":"106 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115739627","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Current ways of determining the Big-Five personality types involve completing a questionnaire, that takes an impractical amount of time and it cannot be used often. Our research aims building a novel non-invasive system to determine Big-Five personality traits based on facial features acquired using Facial Action Coding System. Results show links between the FACS action units present at maximum intensities in facial features and the personality traits of the individual. Moreover, the system built offers over 75% accuracy in predicting openness to experience, as well as neuroticism and extraversion and proves practical, offering results in no more than 3 minutes compared to the amount of time taken to complete a questionnaire.","PeriodicalId":291361,"journal":{"name":"2015 E-Health and Bioengineering Conference (EHB)","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116644820","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Accuracy is a major concern, especially during GPS outages and indoor applications. In order to increase the inertial navigation system (INS) standalone operation period with acceptable accuracy during the GPS absence, signals received from sensors are filtered for reducing positioning errors. For validation, data achieved from the proposed navigator was compared with data achieved from a GPS/INS integrated navigator, both devices being used as remote systems. Unlike in our previous research, the case of the bi-dimensional model, when we managed to develop an optimizing tuning method for achieving the optimum level of decomposition of the Wavelet filter for data achieved from two channels, the attitude channel and the position channel, but not simultaneously, we are currently extending our research aiming to tune simultaneously data achieved from six detection channels, three accelerometers and three gyros.","PeriodicalId":291361,"journal":{"name":"2015 E-Health and Bioengineering Conference (EHB)","volume":"85 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116717446","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main \"at risk\" area is represented by the forefoot. If for the evaluation of barefoot and in-shoe pressure there are commercial devices available, for the evaluation of friction forces the main research studies are still not accessible at the level of a clinical setting. The aim of this paper is to present a potential classification of the diabetic patients based on rotational friction evaluated in walking through the free moment in a sample of 73 diabetic patients. By using cluster analysis, two main clusters were identified, characterized by \"low\" and \"high\" values of normalized free moment. Simultaneous evaluation of the pressure and free moment in walking could represent a simple and useful method for screening diabetic patients in a clinical setting.","PeriodicalId":291361,"journal":{"name":"2015 E-Health and Bioengineering Conference (EHB)","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123703383","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We used 3.75mm diameter implants with 8, 10, 11.5 and 13mm lengths; straight, angled 15° and 25° abutments and two dimensions of crowns (12 and 7.6mm). Von Mises stress decreases in cortical bone from 40.3MPa for the 8mm implant to 35.03MPa for the 13mm implant and in trabecular bone from 5.073MPa to 4.214MPa; in cortical bone is rising from 39.07MPa in the straight abutment to 56.2MPa in the 25° angled abutment, while in trabecular bone from 4.78MPa to 5.371MPa; in cortical bone is rising from 40.3MPa for the 12mm crown to 46.76MPa for 7.6mm crown, while in trabecular bone from 5.073MPa to 5.932MPa. Using longer implants reduces the maximum stress values in the implant-prosthetic restoration and in bone. Stress distribution is independent to the implant's length. Using angled abutments and also reduced mesio-distal dimension crowns raises the stress, especially in cortical bone.","PeriodicalId":291361,"journal":{"name":"2015 E-Health and Bioengineering Conference (EHB)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121260394","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We propose a retrospective study of the impact of dosimetry on radioprotection in a diagnosis Nuclear Medicine Laboratory. The study had a two months timeframe and implied measuring methods such as area dose debit measurements and contaminated surfaces radioactivity determinations. The eluted activities of Tc-99m generators were correlated with several important factors: patients' circuit, transit and stationary times, measured dose debit, contamination in specific points. A proportional relationship between the above mentioned factors was established. We determined that dosimetry has a crucial role in optimizing the radioprotection of professionally exposed workers, permitting the lowering of absorbed doses by enhancing working procedures and by choosing adequate area and individual shielding.","PeriodicalId":291361,"journal":{"name":"2015 E-Health and Bioengineering Conference (EHB)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125273372","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Image processing methods were applied to detect retinal vessels. A fractal analysis approach based on the box-counting method was used to quantify vascular patterns in normal and abnormal cases showing neovascularization near the optic disk (NVD). Ten images including five normal cases and five neovascularization cases were analyzed. The mean fractal dimension obtained for the NVD cases was 1.66 compared to the mean value of 1.52 for the normal cases. The statistical significance of the difference was high, with a p-value of 0.0088. The results show promise for use in detecting neovascularization in retinal images caused by PDR.","PeriodicalId":291361,"journal":{"name":"2015 E-Health and Bioengineering Conference (EHB)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123799132","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
