Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) may be used for patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) in order to control the tremor symptom. Studies show that after 15, 30, 45, 60 minutes or even longer (3 or 6 months), but over time, the tremor symptom reappears and the Deep Brain Stimulation procedure has to be restarted. A general purpose model of Parkinson's disease prognosis based on Markov process is described in this paper. The paper presents the mathematical tool that can be used to generate accurate assessments of Parkinson's disease stage and the DBS effects in time, and can be applicable in medical screening for patients with Parkinson's disease.","PeriodicalId":291361,"journal":{"name":"2015 E-Health and Bioengineering Conference (EHB)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128530760","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Question is what will happen during motion. This can be done by using an interactive and dynamic software, like Anybody Modeling System. A dynamic approach will dramatically diminish the possible errors that may occur, even if the implant is personalized. This way the future motion possibilities and the new acquired posture may be predicted with more accuracy even before the surgery.","PeriodicalId":291361,"journal":{"name":"2015 E-Health and Bioengineering Conference (EHB)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130508728","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Research at the interface of biomaterials, gene therapy, and drug delivery has identified several design parameters for the non-viral vectors to perform optimum delivery of biologically active material into cells. Progress has been made towards achieving gene delivery, though the design principles for the materials and non-viral vectors that produce efficient delivery require further development. In this paper we summarize our contribution in design and preparation of efficient non-viral vectors by approaching two different strategies: preparation of core-like PEI-based structures and Dynamic Constitutional Frameworks as non-viral vectors. Our efforts resulted in yielding of architectures able to efficiently bind oligonucleotides of different length and even to transfect genetic materials into cells. Both strategies have a great potential in preparation of efficient and even selective gene carriers, and consistent work is being further carried out in our group.","PeriodicalId":291361,"journal":{"name":"2015 E-Health and Bioengineering Conference (EHB)","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127827696","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Technological advances in integrated circuits and wireless communications have led to the design and fabrication of low-cost, low-power, miniature, and intelligent physiological data acquisition devices. The paper describes the design and implementation of a portable device used to acquire and wirelessly transmit the electrocardiographic signal (ECG), collected from a patient, to a Personal Computer (PC). The developed device is based on the multichannel high-resolution medical analog front-end ADS1298, connected to a wireless development tool eZ430-RF2500, both from Texas Instruments. On the PC is running an application that receives the ECG data from wireless device, process the signal in order to compute the heart rate, and run a simple arrhythmia detector. A prototype of the wireless device has already been designed, implemented, and partially tested.","PeriodicalId":291361,"journal":{"name":"2015 E-Health and Bioengineering Conference (EHB)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127799315","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The face and eyes of the target subject are detected using the Cascade Classifier algorithm based on Haar-like features. A histogram equalization method is employed to increase image contrast. The core feature of our pupil center detection consists of an adaptive template matching procedure applied on the eye region image that integrates specific constraints related to location and color proprieties of areas surrounding the pupil in order to compute the precise pupil center. Experimental results demonstrate the efficiency of the algorithm by assessing the correctness of the pupil center detection with respect to a ground truth reference. This procedure will allow further development of a system that facilitates social interaction of impaired people by analyzing their eye movements and translating key zones of visual attention focus into sentences that alleviate their communication.","PeriodicalId":291361,"journal":{"name":"2015 E-Health and Bioengineering Conference (EHB)","volume":"63 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131250482","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
