The method envisages the acquisition of the tremor data using intelligent clothes. A set of capacitive sensors are inserted in the collar and detect the head position and movement. The tremor parameters resulted after FFT analysis (amplitudes and frequencies) reveals the presence of essential tremor which is difficult to be identified by visual investigation.","PeriodicalId":291361,"journal":{"name":"2015 E-Health and Bioengineering Conference (EHB)","volume":"136 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133379021","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of the paper is to present the segmentation of three T1 weighted MRI scans of the human forearm for computational modelling of the conductivity and permittivity properties from 10 Hz to 0.1 THz. The 2D MRI scans are segmented into 18 different regions according to anatomical composition. A linear interpolation was applied to the 2D MRI images to produce a 3D image. Cole-Cole equation was used to model the conductivity and permittivity from 10 Hz to 0.1 THz. The result of the Cole-Cole equation was applied to the 3D segmented images to produce a 3D computational conductivity phantom and a 3D computational permittivity phantom of the human forearm. Through this successful study of the electromagnetic properties of the normal healthy human forearm, there is the potential for the expansion of the technique to enable early detection of unhealthy bone and thus consider prompt treatment of the patients with this condition.","PeriodicalId":291361,"journal":{"name":"2015 E-Health and Bioengineering Conference (EHB)","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122174566","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cost-effectiveness of reverse total shoulder arthroplasty and hemiarthroplasty for traumatic three to four fragment luxation fractures of proximal part of humerus were assessed. For this diagnosis, both interventions can be used depending on the extent of the joint damage and regarding the overall health condition of the patient. Multi-criteria analysis for the clinical assessment of the effect (AHP, WSM) was conducted for both interventions. A four-stage hierarchical structure of criteria was proposed. Reverse total shoulder arthroplasty provides better outcomes than hemiarthroplasty in all considered criteria. Patients report less pain and better use of the arm in everyday life. According to the sensitivity analysis, a 50% rise in the price of the implant would switch the cost-effectiveness ratio in favour of the hemiarthroplasty.","PeriodicalId":291361,"journal":{"name":"2015 E-Health and Bioengineering Conference (EHB)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131647897","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Several physic-chemical and biological properties of the scaffolds were investigated in the aim to evaluate their potential as wound healing materials. The internal morphology was characterized by using Scanning Slectron Microscopy (SEM); it was observed that all hydrogels have three-dimensional porous network structure. The swelling capacity of the hydrogels was investigated and it was found that the swelling ratio increased with the increase of AA mass ratio. The lysozyme digestion study proved that the presence of PAA increase the biostability of the NCITACs-PAA hydrogels. In addition, MTT assay results indicated that the hydrogels were non-toxic towards fibroblast. Therefore, the synthesized hydrogels displayed promising characteristics that may be suitable for wound dressing applications.","PeriodicalId":291361,"journal":{"name":"2015 E-Health and Bioengineering Conference (EHB)","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132379003","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The inflammatory injuries and oxidative stress plays important role in the liver disease progression. The aim of our study was the investigation of the impact of oxidative metabolism on the adaptive response of hepatocytes in condition of cholestasis. The investigations were carried out on 30 adult white rats. Cholestasis in rats was induced by the ligation of common bile duct under the ether anesthesia. The liver tissue was studied by Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) method. Results show that cholestatic liver injury is accompanied by disturbance of mitochondrial electron transport on NADH-dehydrogenase: ubiquinon-oxidoreductase region. The bile duct ligation initiates the accumulation of polyploidy cells in liver for repairing its functional activity through reduction oxidative metabolism and inhibition mitochondrial respiratory chain I and IV complexes. Restructuring of the genome follows violations of oxidative processes. Results of our study suggest a role of genomic duplications in the adaptation to disorders in mitochondrial respiration in conditions of cholestasis and protecting cells from oxidative stress.","PeriodicalId":291361,"journal":{"name":"2015 E-Health and Bioengineering Conference (EHB)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134605217","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The evaluation of the lesion size is usually made by the physician through manual measurement, which is inaccurate. This paper presents an algorithm for the automatic segmentation of the hemangioma region, relying on the Maximum a Posteriori (MAP) classification method. The segmentation result is improved by regularization with discrete Markov fields (MAP-Markov). Then, a further improvement is performed, by eliminated distant non-hemangioma pixels. The optimal color space is chosen before segmentation, from five different color spaces, by iteratively computing the segmentation error 10 times on each color space and each of the 40 images from the database. The segmentation performance is evaluated in terms of border error.","PeriodicalId":291361,"journal":{"name":"2015 E-Health and Bioengineering Conference (EHB)","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121069682","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The demand for bone substitute materials has increased in recent years due to increased number of road and rail accidents, loss of teeth due to poor nutrition and stress, the emergence of new trauma and tumors, and bone reconstructive surgery due to development. The aim of this work was to create new nanomaterials from bio-wastes. Two methods are performed for hydroxyapatite extraction from bovine bones: hydrothermal process with water at subcritical and supercritical conditions (200-400°C) and microwave technology. Type I collagen from pig skin was extracted under stirring, using pepsin and acetic acid 0.5M at 4°C. A collagen-hydroxyapatite composite material for dental uses has been made by physical mixing of components in an ultrasonic field. The obtained bio-nanomaterials were characterized by TEM-EDX, X-ray diffraction and FT-IR techniques.","PeriodicalId":291361,"journal":{"name":"2015 E-Health and Bioengineering Conference (EHB)","volume":"98 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117324057","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
