In this study, numerical analysis of the pump impeller produced via the Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) was carried out in the complete ABAQUS environment (CAE/2020). This led to the determination of the stress, strain and deformation distribution induced on the modelled impeller under the operating conditions using the von Mises failure criterion. For the purpose of this study, the static general and steady state heat transfer steps were employed sequentially. The impeller’s model as casted in the FDM process was designed as a single solid homogenous part with no nodal separations or assembly constraints between the base of the impeller and its blades. Using a mesh interval of 0.5 mm, it was observed that the computational time decreases with an increase in the mesh size up to 5.0 mm. The results obtained showed that blade thicknesses less than 5 mm are more susceptibility to failure. In addition, extreme operating speeds up to 1000 rad/s and pressures of 0.22 MPa are not suitable conditions for high operational efficiency and structural integrity of the impeller. However, when operating around obstacles and in the proximity of walls or moving objects, the aerial vehicle can be subject to external forces that can cause severe flight instability. To address this issue, a methodology based on multiple reference frame (MRF) tetrahedral meshes is developed in this paper and applied to computational simulations to study the downwash flow generated by a quadcopter propeller over fixed and moving obstacles. The effects of different rotational speeds and moving obstacle proximity are assessed and compared to experimental data and theoretical models. The results show that the presence of fixed and moving obstacles can have a significant impact on the aerodynamic performance of the propeller, leading to changes in lift force and the formation of turbulent vortices and flow separation zones. When hovering at 3000, 5000, and 9550 rpm, the results showed an increase in the lift force on the propeller by 9.3%, and 1.03% compared to open rotor thrust due to the presence of a fixed obstacle (wall) placed at 0.1 m and 0.2 m from the propeller respectively. However, when hovering (3000 rpm) at 0.2 m above a moving obstacle (5 m/s, and 10 m/s) the results have shown an increase in the lift by 1.92% for 5 m/s moving obstacle, and then a decrease by 4.4% for 10 m/s, comparing to fixed obstacle thrust. With the aim to determine the techniques done by companies around the world to prevent complications experienced upon welding, the researchers surveyed 43 international companies from different regions of the world. The responses are presented into pie charts and bar graphs that were interpreted into a qualitative analysis. Inferential statistics, specifically one-way Analysis by of Variance (ANOVA) and one-sample T Test in hypothesis testing with the means of statistical software Minitab and IBM SPSS Statistics respectively, are conducted to distinguish the influence of variables to the key words of the study. The significance level of most of the test variable in one-way ANOVA were greater than the 95% confidence interval, confirming the similarity of results given by the companies. FCAW is still one of the most used welding methods by the industrial companies internationally due to its ease of use. Welding problems are encountered despite of this and having welders training. Additionally, the researchers obtained sample mean of competitiveness in terms of product quality and performance level, having 4.6 for domestic and 4.33 for international (5 being the highest level). This research aims to determine the effectiveness of the device, specifically, when another person coughed or sneezed in proximity. A surgical mask was used as a porous medium to show resistance during the filtration when fans are working. Results showed that the aerodynamics of the device will depend on the axial fans’ specifications since this will generate the air curtain for the user. Over 71% of freshwater withdrawals in the world are for irrigation purposes. Thus, more accurate and robust soil moisture modeling is needed to create more efficient irrigation systems, which, in turn, may lead to substantial water savings. However, existing soil moisture modeling methodologies have limited accuracy and low temporal resolution. In this study, the accuracy of using a machine learning model for high temporal resolution soil moisture modeling is demonstrated. A multimodal sensing system is designed and implemented to create a high temporal resolution dataset in the water-scarce region of South Africa. In thermo-acoustic systems, the main goal is to heat up and cool down heat exchangers positioned across the regenerator or the stack to reach a suitable onset temperature and generate a sound wave in a thermo-acoustic engine. Because of the impact of heat exchangers on the performance of thermo-acoustic systems, a more systematic investigation into the impact of its geometrical configuration would be insightful. A numerical model of a travelling-wave thermo-acoustic engine was developed and implemented within the software DELTAEC. Various simulations were performed. This result shows that the performance of a travelling-wave thermo-acoustic engine would improve by considering a relatively shorter cold heat exchanger having larger pores. The aim of this paper is to improve the performance of Tri-Star climbing trolley wheels for optimal operation. The design modification was done by selection of suitable bearings, materials and design the wheel frame. Engineering principles were used to evaluate the load capacity, force and stress distribution on the wheel mechanism. Auto CAD software was used for wheel frame design. The results shows that the spherical roller bearings can withstand both radial and axial load for increased load on the trolley. The wheel frame design showed that the trolley can withstand increased load with better stress distribution while as the deflection of the trolley under increased load.
