At present, various methods used to monitor the operation condition and analyze faults have their own traits and shortcomings. To realize the heavy duty gearbox’s operation condition monitoring and fault analysis, acoustic digital twin technology was proposed. Using noncontact far field acoustic signals, the operation condition can be monitored and faults can be analyzed. This new technology was characterized by locating and analyzing faults accurately. To improve the accuracy of the digital twin model, the contact stiffness model of the joint surface was further deduced. Finally, the frequency responses of sound pressure under different faults were compared and analyzed. It was shown that the proposed acoustic digital twin technology can be used to monitor the heavy-duty gearbox’s operation condition and analyze faults. Also, the results showed that this technology was feasible and accurate.","PeriodicalId":286146,"journal":{"name":"2023 14th International Conference on Mechanical and Intelligent Manufacturing Technologies (ICMIMT)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125313248","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the anisotropic characteristics of the Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) process, material models with bulk properties for Finite-Element-Analysis (FEA) lack accuracy. This problem was addressed in this research by tension (DIN ISO 527) and compression (DIN ISO 604) tests of polypropylene and elastic polypropylene filament for FFF in 0° and 90° printing directions. Furthermore, a recycling cycle for both filaments was carried out and reassessed. Based on the test results a transversely isotropic material model with bilinear hardening was generated and validated for the standard polypropylene filament with a three-point bending test (DIN ISO 178). The material model was capable of reasonably simulating the component behavior for the complex load scenarios up to a strain of 15 %. The combination of a cost, time and resource-saving simulation approach with a circular material strategy proposes a way for fusing performance and sustainability in the field of Additive Manufacturing (AM). The combination of recycling processes and material models, both assessed and verified experimentally, respectively, will help adapt the product geometry to the material properties modified from recycling.","PeriodicalId":286146,"journal":{"name":"2023 14th International Conference on Mechanical and Intelligent Manufacturing Technologies (ICMIMT)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130693047","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Heat exchangers play a crucial role in waste heat recovery from engine exhaust. In this study, a numerical simulation was carried out to investigate the performance of counter shell and tube heat exchanger with and without inner fin geometry. A CFD analysis showed that the addition of inner fins in heat exchanger improved the heat transfer performance of heat exchanger. Further, the use of GO/water nanofluid is effective to reduce the exhaust air temperature and increase the overall effectiveness of heat exchanger.","PeriodicalId":286146,"journal":{"name":"2023 14th International Conference on Mechanical and Intelligent Manufacturing Technologies (ICMIMT)","volume":"133 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134523330","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The distribution rules of bending stress and bending strength were obtained. The reliability results verified the accuracy of the reliability simulation calculation model established using the Monte Carlo method; Based on the first order second moment method, reliability sensitivity analysis was conducted on the mean value and standard deviation of the basic random variables that affect the reliability of bending fatigue. The results shows the degree and trend of the impact of different factors on reliability, and the increase of the standard deviation of each random variable would reduce the reliability, providing theoretical guidance and optimization direction for the subsequent reliability optimization design.","PeriodicalId":286146,"journal":{"name":"2023 14th International Conference on Mechanical and Intelligent Manufacturing Technologies (ICMIMT)","volume":"54 3","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133391983","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These vehicles will be created using the 3D Modelling software Fusion360. Each sample will be equipped with different designs of Roof Spoilers and then subjected to a Computational Fluid Analysis (CFD) using ANSYS Fluent. The parameters used for evaluation are the drag coefficient two and its force counterpart. The results from the assessment will be compared between the non-equipped (Base version) and the models equipped with roof spoiler model (RSM). The results show that RSM’s curvature would perform better than the planar version. The significant improvement of curvature RSM ranges from about five to twenty percent, while planar RSM ranges from up to fifteen percent, varying from different trucks. L300 WT has the lowest improvement, with a peak of eleven percent, followed by H100, with a peak of thirteen percent. The K2500 has the highest peak of improvement, gaining up to twenty percent. Regardless of their model, all the RSM were able to improve the aerodynamic performance of the different light trucks.","PeriodicalId":286146,"journal":{"name":"2023 14th International Conference on Mechanical and Intelligent Manufacturing Technologies (ICMIMT)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129646775","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the application of this technology to replace existing design, especially in the area of fluid mechanics, is still a challenge. The aim of the study is to evaluate the efficiency of the 3D printed Pelton turbine wheel at various pressure head as compared to the traditionally fabricated Pelton turbine. The design, fabrication and testing of the turbine blade were performed at University of South Africa, with the aim of replacing the existing turbine wheel. The tests were carried out at 0.5 kPa, 1 kPa and 1.5 kPa pressure heads. The results shows that the efficiency Pelton wheel turbine of metal and draft material are above 50 % and those of clear is below 50 %. The speed of the system increase as the pressure increase for metal and draft, however, for the turbine wheel of clear material it increases and decreases.","PeriodicalId":286146,"journal":{"name":"2023 14th International Conference on Mechanical and Intelligent Manufacturing Technologies (ICMIMT)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133148023","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A nonlinear control-oriented model is implemented with 12 state variables and 2 inputs. The nonlinear model is linearized around a carefully selected steady state point so that MPC could be implemented to compute optimal expansion valve opening and compressor speed with measured feedbacks of superheat and evaporator pressure. The control-oriented model and MPC are implemented on Simulink using 4 interconnected subsystems namely, the VC system, the MPC system, the reference system and the environment. The coupling effects between superheat and evaporator pressure are considered. MPC performance was satisfactory in terms of disturbance rejection and reference tracking whilst considering the coupling effects between superheat and evaporator pressure.","PeriodicalId":286146,"journal":{"name":"2023 14th International Conference on Mechanical and Intelligent Manufacturing Technologies (ICMIMT)","volume":"76 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126201509","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
