For fault detection, many techniques have been employed among which the support vector machines (SVM) is a popular one owing to its many attractive features like fast classification, good handling capability of non-linear behavior of the data, and providing a global optimum for classification. This article presents the use of SVM and one of its variants i.e. one class SVM for fault detection in a rotation based machinery. The rotating machines give vibrational signals that can be analyzed to monitor the machines' health. The fundamental idea and implementation technique of classical SVM and one-class SVM are discussed. The vibration signals are obtained followed by feature extraction in time and frequency domain and on this basis, fault classification is performed. The performance of the said classifiers is compared for the Intelligence Maintenance Systems (IMS) bearing vibration data with the introduction of step and incipient faults respectively. Presence of incipient fault makes the classification very difficult. Afterwards, the classifier failure condition is calculated and the decision value plots are explicated. Classification results obtained using one class SVM are superior than classical SVM as advocated by our simulations.","PeriodicalId":285090,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Emerging Technologies (ICET)","volume":"117 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123576774","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Preliminary analysis of the PRS is carried out using computer code MELCOR, which is a thermal hydraulic code that models the progression of severe accidents in light water nuclear power plants. The system was analyzed under SBO without the main feed-water, auxiliary feed-water and the safety injection systems. The system is activated after the SBO and failure of auxiliary feed-water pumps and the turbine driven pumps by opening the isolation valves and closing the main steam isolation valve to avoid the steam loss. Three trains of PRS are modeled and connected with secondary side of each Steam Generators along with a make-up tank, each trains is connected with the same cooling tower (Heat Sink). The system can maintain the reactor in safe condition for 72 hours, if it is actuated before the large loss of primary coolant inventory or fuel damage in the core. The three independent trains for each steam generator are consider for heat removal of secondary side. If one of the train is considered unavailable that will lead to fuel failure and RPV failure within 72 hours. Although the failure time increases in comparison to the SBO without the PRS. The reactor remains in safe conditions if the PRS system operate at or above 80% of its design thermal load removing capability. The safety assessment was made with and without using this severe accident countermeasure introduced in K-2/K-3 NPP.","PeriodicalId":285090,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Emerging Technologies (ICET)","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115587236","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To achieve near perfect absorption, several configurations of the top layer (plasmonic nanoparticle) are proposed, which includes a gold nanoring, horizontally split ring, vertically split ring and quad-split ring, respectively. Position of T4 control bank, axial offsets in four quadrants and quadrant power tilt ratios were taken as input variables in neural network designing. Power Peaking Factors (PPF) were calculated using computer codes FCXS, TWODFD and 3D-NB-2P for 52 core critical conditions made during C-1 fuel cycle-7. A multilayered Perceptron (MLP) neural network was trained by applying a set of measured input parameters and calculated output data for each core state. Training average relative errors between targets and ANNT estimated peaking factors were ranged from 0.018% to 0.054%, implies that ANNT introduces negligible error during training and exactly map the values. For validation process, PPF were estimated using ANNT for 36 cases devised at the time when power distribution measurement test and in-core/ex-core detectors calibration test were performed during fuel cycle. ANNT Results were compared with C-1 peaking factors measured with in-core flux mapping system and INCOPW computer code. Results showed that ANNT estimated PPF deviated from C-1 measured values within ±3%. The results of this study indicate that ANNT is an alternate technique for PPF measurement using only ex-core detectors signals data and independent of in-core flux mapping system. It might increase the time interval between in-core flux maps to 180 Effective Full Power Days (EFPDs) and reduce usage frequency of in-core flux mapping system during fuel cycle as present in Advanced Countries Nuclear Power Plants.","PeriodicalId":285090,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Emerging Technologies (ICET)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130974829","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The current diesel engine is a complex system that has mechanisms like Variable Geometry Turbo charger (VGT), Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) to limit the amount of exhaust emissions. Since both VGT and EGR flows are driven by the exhaust gases, there is a strong coupling between them. A nonlinear reduced order model is used for coordinated control development for VGT and EGR actuators. The proposed scheme uses Supertwisting algorithm which ensures robustness against the modeling errors and parameteric uncertainities and at the same time reducing the high frequency chattering. Simulation results have been shown on a validated full order diesel engine model to illustrate the efficacy of the scheme.","PeriodicalId":285090,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Emerging Technologies (ICET)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114325929","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study presents a Monte Carlo (MC) investigation of dose perturbation due to various kinds of heterogeneities (soft tissue interfaces with bone, air, lung and metallic implants) for a range of clinically useful photon energies and field sizes. EGSnrc MC radiation transport code has been used for linear accelerator head modeling and phantom dose calculations. Dose perturbations were quantified in terms of forward- and backscatter factors as well as inside the heterogeneity of low densities for various field sizes including 5 × 5 cm2, 10 × 10 cm2 and 15 × 15 cm2. For lung heterogeneity, both under-dosage and over-dosage has been assessed in relation to the field sizes and energies. These simulations confirm under-dosage in the case of lung heterogeneity for small field sizes, which increases with the energy. However, lung tissues reflect an overdose with smaller energies and larger field sizes.","PeriodicalId":285090,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Emerging Technologies (ICET)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115076621","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents a simple methodology for breast cancer detection in digital mammograms. Proposed methodology consists of three major steps, i.e. segmentation of breast region, removal of pectoral muscle and classification of breast muscle into normal and abnormal tissues. Segmentation of breast muscle was performed by employing Otsus segmentation technique, afterwards removal of pectoral muscle is carried out by canny edge detection and straight line approximation technique. In next step, Gray Level Co-occurrence Matrices (GLCM) was created form which several features were extracted. At the end, SVM classifier was trained to classify breast region into normal and abnormal tissues. Proposed methodology was validated on Mini-MIAS database and results were compared with previously proposed techniques, which shows that proposed technique can be reliably apply for breast cancer detection.","PeriodicalId":285090,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Emerging Technologies (ICET)","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116474267","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Behaviour of any airborne body after getting disturbed from the equilibrium position is of paramount importance for its stability analysis. The model of missile has been made using computer software. Stability derivatives of a missile have been calculated using computational fluid dynamics. To comprehend dynamic stability, analytical solution has been proposed using Newton's Second law and Small Disturbance Theory, assuming pure pitching motion. To visualize the behaviour of missile model, graphical solution has been taken out using computer code. For having an idea how it will work in real world, a cardboard model of the missile is made and has been analysed for different applied angles of attacks. At the end the analytical and experimental results have been compared. Major contributions of this work are calculation of a method to plot time history of angle of attack of a missile after some perturbation and conduction of experiment for purpose of comparison. In future, results can be validated for wind tunnel model which will be more accurate.","PeriodicalId":285090,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Emerging Technologies (ICET)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116858706","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A method for the self-tuning of fractional order controller (FOC) using fuzzy logic is introduced. Fuzzy auto-tune technique adjusts on-line integral order (λ) of STFFOPIλ controller to meet that system have different control parameters under different error. Time domain response of proposed controller is analysed and compared with two parameters (Kp and Ki) self-tuning fuzzy classical PI (STFCPI) controller. Disturbance rejection performance and robust stability feature are assessed by simulated examples. Result shows that the anti-interference capability as well as robustness of the proposed STFFOPIλ controller is better than the STFCPI controller. In short, performance of PID controller can be improved by making use of fractional order derivative and integral.","PeriodicalId":285090,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Emerging Technologies (ICET)","volume":"66 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123958005","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
