Amrin, Else Liliani","doi":"10.2991/ICILLE-18.2019.84","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.2991/ICILLE-18.2019.84","url":null,"abstract":"The analysis of “Orang yang Selalu Cuci Tangan” short story by Seno Gumira Ajidarma, gave a view on the factual phenomenon of corruption at the national level, especially the cases in 2013 in which this short story was written. This short story was published in Kompas daily newspaper on May 20, 2013. The critical discourse analysis was used as an approach aiming to find out, analyze, and interpret the discourse in the short story representing the corruption cases. The critical discourse analysis used was Norman Fairclough's perspective carried out in three ways, namely micro, meso, and macro analysis. This study used a sociological literature approach with descriptive qualitative method. The note taking technique was also used in this research. The data were analyzed descriptively, and the results of the study indicate that the writer criticized the rampant corruption behavior in 2013 in certain institutions and by individuals, and the silence of the journalists/media causing the huge losses to the country. But in reality, in the translation process sometimes an interpreter translates a text not in accordance with the message contained in the source language text. This causes the translation results to be distorted which causes a shift in shape and meaning in the target language text. Especially translation in literary works, where this literary work is included in the type of expressive text with expressive language dimensions. This article employs Corinne Hofmann's roman Die Weiße Massai in its' source language and in Indonesian translation entitled The White Masai. This article discusses the shifts that occur in the translation of the roman by referring to the shift theory by Catford and coupled with the shift in expressions which are included in the macro-linguistic sphere. The sources to support the data of this research is from the 2011 March issue of Elle magazine, meanwhile the main data of this research are in the forms of sentences containing cohesion and coherence markings also the linguistic and non-linguistics markings in the Rolex watch printed ad in the Elle magazine. Data collections are done by observation method and its continuations which are Uninvolved Conversation Observation Technique (Teknik Simak Bebas Libat Cakap or SBLC) and Writing Technique (Teknik Catat). Data analysis methods used are distributional method (Metode Agih) in order to analyse cohesion and coherence, also identity method to analyse the situational and socio-culture context. The validity of the data is obtained through contents’ validity and opinions from the experts. The results show cohesion and coherence element on Rolex watch printed ad in Elle magazine have formed significance cohesiveness and format orderliness. Based on the microstructural analysis have been obtained various types of grammatical cohesion in the forms of references, substitutions, elliptic, and conjunctions. Whereas there are repetitions on lexical cohesions are found in the ad. The marking on the coherence are found in the Rolex watch printed ad in Elle magazine are in the form of significance additives and contradictive significance affinity. Based on the macro structural analysis of the Rolex watch printed ad in Elle magazine it has been obtained that the ad show a female model wearing the Rolex watch .The ad title, the type of font used, the text content, and the color of the Les Heroines Moderns; 'Modern Heroines' watch advertisement are interrelated and form the principle of meaning coherence. Based on an analysis of macro-structural devices, the message to be conveyed is that Rolex watches are watches that are durable, modern, and luxurious, suitable for use by people who have a lot of activity. Feminism theory is applied along with qualitative descriptive method with Fairclough’s model. The results show that: (1) text dimension, the short story “Topeng Nalar” represents the characters’ real life, interpreted as the life of a single mother who supports her two children by doing mask dance (topeng means mask). “Nalar” or logic for character “I” is an idea of how a woman makes money. This idea tries to clear the misunderstanding of how a woman makes money; (2) discourse practice dimension is related to the story’s intertextuality and interdiscursivity, illustrated through character “I” use references to word references in the form of kejawen culture or habits in Javanese culture. The intertextuality is in North Country movie aired in 2005; (3) sociocultural practice is in which the author Dewi Ria Utari inserts the practice of feminism ideology to “Topeng Nalar” through the reality of daily life. This activity used short stories as the works to be reviewed. This is a quantitative research with quasi experiments conducted in SMP Negeri 2 Mertoyudan. However, the chosen samples are only the students in class VIII E (33 students) as the control group and class VIII D (32 students) as the experiment group. These samples were taken using a random cluster technique. The data were collected by using descriptive questions about writing review text and analyzed using t-test for Independent Samples because there were two groups tested. From the results, it can be concluded that the performance of students who were taught with Reciprocal Teaching Strategy show improvement compared to those who were not. Get the post-test average score as 75.391 for the experiment group. The control group has 72.273 and Sig (2-tailed) < 0.05 that is equal to .014. The data was taken from bilingual children book entitled Kumpulan Dongeng Motivasi. In this case, Bahasa Indonesia as source language (SL) and English as target language (TL). Documentation method was applied in collecting the data. The instrument of this research was human instrument. In analyzing the data, the researcher used content analysis method. After collecting and analyzing the data, it was found that two major types of shift occurred in the process of translation, namely level shift and category shift. The result showed that there are 340 data that contain shift, in which of the total shift, 6.76% is level shift, 39.9% is structure shift, 8.23% is class shift, 26.17% is unit shift, and 27.1% is intrasystem shift. This research also found that 1.17% of total shift is double shift of unit shift and intra-system shift. Therefore, it can be concluded that the most frequent shift used is structure shift while the least one is class shift. It can be achieved through a good comprehension of translation procedures especially proverb translation. However, the students’ translation of the English education program in IAIN Metro is still poor and sounds awkward since they do not master proverb well so that the accuracy level of the translation is low. Therefore, this research focuses on analyzing students’ proverb translation. This research is descriptive qualitative research. This descriptivequalitative research intends to describe the students’ difficulties in translating English into Indonesian proverbs. The data of this research are 10 English proverbs and 10 Indonesian proverbs based on the professional translator. The finding research shows the students’ difficulties in translating English into Indonesian proverb. The sample of the research was taken from 10 students translation product at the forth semester of English education program in IAIN Metro using documentation and interview technique. The sample was 10 English proverbs with 100 students’ translation products. The conclusion of the research shows that, from 10 proverbs with 100 translation products, there are only 29 accurate translation products (29%) and 71 inaccurate translation products (71%). Furthermore, the students still find difficulties in translating proverb. Most of the fourth-semester students of the English Education Study Program in IAIN Metro have lack of vocabularies and knowledge about proverb.
