As human beings just living once, people always expect to be happy in life. Firms can win more customers if they provide good services, make customers happy and retain them with pleasures and cares. There are also many scientific studies on human happiness indicators. In the environment of tertiary education, the concept of happiness is very concerned, especially for students. The scientific basis of the method is based on the research on Net Promoter Score by Fred Reichheld, published in Harvard 2002. When students are happy, they not only feel more satisfied with their life and their experience, but also feel more positive emotions than negative ones (Garcia, 1984). In addition, students with a higher level of happiness, they can achieve better academic achievement (Lyubomirskyet al., 2005). Arecent research about the factors affecting students’choice of university has shown that when deciding to choose a university today, students are interested in the following aspects: facilities and services, curriculum, tuition, information about the school, opinions of family and friends, etc. (Mai and Anthony, 2015). So, the enrollment to the universities is becoming more and more competitive, especially in the private ones. Similarly, customers are always the back bone in every organization. Most of the references mentioned in this paper are all based on Chan's et al theory (2005). In addition, this study has designed a questionnaire to measure the student happiness based on the one by the group of authors including Hills and Argyle of Oxford University, UK in 2001, which has been widely referred in many later studies. A world where knowledge, skills and ability rule; a knowledge based economy. The importance of knowledge is even more prominent in the service offering sector of the economy where the survival of the firm depends on their employees skill-set and competencies. This is however not to play down its importance in other sectors of the economy. Moradi, Saeedi, Hajizadeh and Mohammadi (2013) posit that in the 21st century, economic success is dependent upon knowledge, innovation and creativity in making new products and offering better service. This brings to the fore the concept of Intellectual Capital (IC) as an important concept. This concept has over the years been capturing much attention in management and other related field of study. IC plays a fundamental role within modern organizations and is part of the foundation of business in the 21st century (Li-Chang& Chao-Hung, 2010). Thus, in the last decades the strategic management literature has emphasized the crucial role of intangible factors or the intellectual capital as determinants of business competitiveness (Teece, 2000).","PeriodicalId":277653,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Managerial Studies and Research","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122381742","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Budget acts as financial management tool used to measure the actual and forecast against the budget throughout the planning process, it also assists in monitoring and controlling of current performance by providing early warning of deviations from the plans and analyses the anticipated versus actual results.Budget provide a basis for directing and evaluating the performance of banks. Modern budgeting is best placed when performance management is integrated with known financial outcomes which are frequently re-forecasted on budget and linked to the analysis of performance trends. This will ultimately help banks not lose their control and accountability mechanisms.","PeriodicalId":277653,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Managerial Studies and Research","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124040505","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to changes in the human resource area witnessed in the 21st century, the expectations of employers from their employees have been changing as well, predominantly with investigative studies showing that these expectations are becoming complex with time. The concept of organizational learning has grown in latest times due to the pressures facing modern organizations to adapt and stay competitive in the ever-changing business environment. Many scholars of this concept agree that companies can only realize a viable competitive advantage if they can learn at a pace that is faster than their competitors. This study sought to investigate effect of organizational learning on firm competitiveness of SMEs in Starehe Sub-County in Kenya. The research variable was underpinned on the resource-based view of the firm. Descriptive research design was used in this study. The study target population was 350 SMEs registered in Starehe Sub-County in Kenya. Starehe Sub-County was picked due to high concentration of SMEs. The study employed stratified random sampling, with a sample size of 187-registered SMEs within Starehe Sub-County in Kenya. Primary data for the investigation was collected using a structured questionnaire. Validity of the questionnaire was assessed and confirmed using opinion from experts and review of relevant literature. A pilot study was carried out using twenty employees to support the test of reliability of the questionnaire. Descriptive statistics were analysed using frequencies, percentages, mean, standard deviation and coefficient of variation. Similarly, inferential statistics was analysed using Pearson correlation analysis and linear regression analysis. The results of statistical analysis demonstrated that organizational learning has a positive effect on firm competitiveness of SMEs registered in Starehe Sub-County in Kenya. The conclusion of the study therefore is that organizational learning positively affects firm competitiveness of SME’s in Starehe Sub-County in Nairobi City County. The study recommends that SME’s can utilize the discoveries of this investigation to assess how well the SMEs can enhance the employees training in order to improve on their competitiveness. The rapid changes in technology and the role of social media acting as our puppet masters, imposes the need for employers and employees to continuously renovate themselves through learning of better business strategies.","PeriodicalId":277653,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Managerial Studies and Research","volume":"66 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114231130","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
