Therefore, investors will be interested in the value of the expected return on their investment ascompares to their opportunity cost. Successful leadership represents one of the most important factors that contribute to the enterprise success. Koontz et al. (1990) define leadership as a process of influencing employees in order to motivate and encourage them to achieve the enterprise's goals. Griffin(2002) believes that leadership is both a process and a trait. As a process, leadership represents the focus on activities that a leader takes, and as a trait, leadership represents leader's traits. Leadership can also be defined as the skill of encouraging employees to participate voluntarily in the realization of enterprise's goals (Rožman et al., 2017).It is important to point effective leadership leads to increase in the shareholder value. The responsibilities to lead organisations lies with the board of directors. These responsibilities of the directors include setting the company's strategic aims, providing the leadership to put them into effect, supervising the management of the business and reporting to shareholders on their stewardship which constitute the core of corporate governance. The Board's actions are subjected to laws, regulations and the shareholders in general meeting (Olayiwola, 2010).","PeriodicalId":277653,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Managerial Studies and Research","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114608969","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Abstract: This study evaluated the economic viability of investing in improved briquettes and charcoal production technologies among small-medium entrepreneurs. Specifically, the study estimated the cost of briquette and charcoal production using improved production technologies and determined the feasibility of the projects using specific economic indicators. The cost of production comprised of fixed, operations and maintenance costs estimated from the current market prices and based on different assumptions. Economic analysis revealed that unit costs of briquette production using drum agglomerator and screw press technologies were KES.10.6 and KES. 17.83 per kg respectively, while production costs for charcoal were KES.27.79 and KES. 35.60 per kg when using vertical and horizontal drum kilns at a proposed selling price of KES. 40 and KES. 50 per kg respectively. The study recorded positive net present values for briquette and charcoal production using all the technologies. The highest net present value was recorded from drum agglomerator and vertical drum kiln technologies for briquettes and charcoal production respectively. Study findings reveal that production of briquettes and charcoal using the improved technologies is economically viable. The study gives a new direction to energy policy which could spur more interest among entrepreneurs willing to invest in the bioenergy sector.","PeriodicalId":277653,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Managerial Studies and Research","volume":"82 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114884567","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Food and beverage manufacturing companies in Kenya have been experiencing problems in the performance of their production and operations management. In view of the foregoing, it is relevant to investigate how Kenyan organizations could outsource their logistics requirements through freight management in the most efficient manner with regard to customer service and cost. This study therefore, sought to assess the influence of freight management on the performance of food and beverage manufacturing firms in Kenya. Based on the role played by policies and governance in the supply chain processes, this study also sought to assess the moderating effect of internal policy framework. The study was informed by the logistics theory. A descriptive research design was adopted. Food and beverage manufacturing companies were sampled and the data was collected using self-administered questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings revealed that freight management had a significant influence on the performance of food and beverage processing firms. Internal policy framework was also found to insignificantly moderate the relationship between freight management and performance of food and beverage processing firms. The study concluded that freight management was critical in enhancing the performance of food and beverage processing firms in Kenya.
