Along with this, there are detrimental effects of menopause which can cause a decrease in functional capacity. The aim of this study was to understand the effect of obesity or increased weight on quadriceps muscle strength as age-related morphological changes are more pronounced in quadriceps. Methods: Sixty postmenopausal women aged between 50 and 70 years were divided into two groups according to body mass index (BMI): obese (n = 35) and not obese (n = 25). To assess quadriceps muscle strength, a modified sphygmomanometer was used. The procedure was done 3 times and the mean score was recorded. The same procedure was done for both legs. Results: The results obtained by comparing the left and right quadriceps muscle with normal and increased body mass index show extreme significance with p value < 0.0001. Mean and standard deviation were used as measurements. Conclusion: Our results show obesity or increased weight causes a decrease in quadriceps muscle strength as observed in postmenopausal women with increased body mass index. Aim: This RCT has been conducted to evaluate the efficacy of the Helfer Skin Tap (HST) technique on pain among children receiving intramuscular immunisation. Materials and Methods: Quantitative research was carried out with the true experimental post-test only control group design among 40 attending the immunisation clinics selected by convenience sampling technique with random assignment. The intervention was administered by tapping at the injection site for 3 minutes before, during, and after vaccination in the experimental group. The pain was assessed with a standardised FLACC pain scale in both groups. Results: We analysed the data with chi-square test for homogeneity of sample characteristics and association with pain, and an independent t-test for the effectiveness of HST. There was a statistically significant reduction in pain among the experimental group after HST in comparison with the control group, and none of the variables had any association with pain in children. Conclusion: The study concluded that the HST technique was significantly effective in pain reduction among children undergoing intramuscular injections at an immunisation clinic. It reduces the value of the rupee, which makes goods and services more expensive. Generally, inflation is acceptable if it is in the range of 5-7% per annum. Medical inflation is much higher than general inflation as it is estimated to be around 20%. The money spent on the services provided by medical practitioners increases year after year, thus medical inflation automatically increases. Man has known the importance of iron in health and sickness since the dawn of humanity. Egyptians, Indians, Greeks, and Romans were among the first to use iron as a medicine. In the 17th century, iron was used to cure chlorosis (green disease), which was commonly caused by an iron deficiency. The molecule of haemoglobin requires iron to function properly. It is the most effective therapy for treating anaemia caused by a haemoglobin deficiency for over 2000 years. The aetiological factors (Asbāb), types (Aqsaam), pathophysiology, and clinical manifestation (Istedlal wa Alȧmȧt) of anaemia have been described in the Unani ancient literature which may be very useful for early diagnosis of anaemia. Data for this review article were collected from ancient Unani books and other manuscripts. It was found that there are several clinical manifestations (Istedlal wa Alȧmȧt) of Faqr al-Damin ancient Unani literature that aid in the diagnosis and treatment of anaemia. This article may be quite helpful for the early diagnosis and treatment of anaemia through the Unani system of medicine.Keywords:Anaemia (Faqr al-Dam), Aetiological factors (Asbāb), Clinical manifestation (Istedlal wa Alȧmȧt), Types (Aqsaam), Pathophysiology of anaemia, PreventionIntroductionAncient Unani physicians believed that derangement of the liver, sūmizāj and Ḍu‘f al-kabid (weakness of hepatic faculties) or sometimes associated diseases results in impaired and improper production of blood causing anaemia.1-3The word Sū’al-Qinya was coined by Ismail Jurjani (12th AD). This is most commonly experienced in lifestyle disorders as the medication in these conditions requires long-term administration. As per the WHO’s current status, 74% of the current deaths in a year are due to lifestyle disorders. Traditional plant-based medicines play a major role in the prevention of a few communicable diseases. Apart from the prevention of disease, they provide a protective effect against the ill effects induced by oxidative stress due to diet and regimes. The current review contains articles from PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, and Google Scholar databases from October 2021 – September 2022 by searching keywords including “anti-genotoxicity” or “mutagenicity” or “anti-mutagenicity” and “in vitro” or “in vivo” and “plants” or “medicinal plants”. After review, 45 articles were included, which contained information about 38 plants. This article rationalises the long-term usage of medicinal plants in treating various health conditions.","PeriodicalId":276735,"journal":{"name":"Chettinad Health City Medical Journal","volume":"159 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131200468","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is termed a Multiple-Designed Ligand (MDL) having the ability to block more than one enzyme. A molecular docking study justifies the binding ability of p-PBA with acarbose and NaVO4 which were considered standard compounds having the ability to block target enzymes. α-amylase inhibition assay was used as an in-vitro screening model to evaluate the activity of p-PBA against diabetes on an initial basis. Methods: For the molecular docking study, a PDB file of p-PBA was prepared and PDB files of α-amylase (1C8Q), α-glucosidase (5KZW) and PTP1B (5K9W) were procured. p-PBA was docked against the enzymes using the blind docking method. The binding score of p-PBA and standard with enzymes was obtained and compared. The percentage inhibition of an α-amylase enzyme by p-PBA was measured by using a DNS-modified α-amylase inhibition assay and half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) was calculated. Results: p-PBA has a significant inhibitory effect against α-amylase, α-glucosidase, and PTP1B with docking scores of 8.43 ± 0.44 kcal/mol, 9.19 ± 0.49 kcal/mol, and 9.40 ± 0.47 kcal/mol respectively. IC50calculated from the results of α-amylase inhibition assay p-PBA was 56.59 μg/mL. Conclusion: A combination of in-silico and in-vitro methods assessed p-PBA’s anti-diabetic potential on an initial basis. A molecular docking study involving p-PBA concluded the affinity of p-PBA to α-amylase, α-glucosidase, and PTP1B was significantly correlated with the affinity of acarbose and NaVO4. In-vitro α-amylase assay validated the compound’s inhibitory action against the enzyme.","PeriodicalId":276735,"journal":{"name":"Chettinad Health City Medical Journal","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124621673","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hence the study was conducted to define the knowledge about the COVID-19 vaccine and its acceptance in a sample of women who were planning to get pregnant. Method: This is a prospective study conducted at Chettinad Hospital and Research Institute, Chennai, India on 157 women of reproductive age group during August-September 2022. Data were collected using a face-to-face questionnaire administered to women who attended the Obstetrics and Gynaecology OPD. Data were analysed using SPSS. Results: Of the 157 respondents, nearly half were in the age group of 20-32 years, and almost 72% of them were educated with the minimum qualification being higher secondary education. In the given study, 70.7% were urban and semi-urban residents and 29.3% were rural women. About 66% of them were employed and the rest were unemployed. Gravidity status showed no significant differences regarding awareness. Overall awareness was about 74.5% and acceptance was 70.7%. Conclusion: Though women are aware of the vaccines, there is hesitancy prevailing. Literacy plays an important role in vaccine awareness and acceptance. Women of reproductive age should be made aware that the COVID vaccine is safe for use. The side effects, if any, will also be mostly minor. Although vaccine trials have not been conducted on pregnant women, the beneficial effects of vaccination far outweigh the negligible risk, if any, to the foetus and the women were made aware of this information.","PeriodicalId":276735,"journal":{"name":"Chettinad Health City Medical Journal","volume":"105 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132120770","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Dysmenorrhea with no obvious pelvic pathology is referred to as primary dysmenorrhea. Acupuncture and hydrotherapy are non-pharmacological interventions that help in reducing pain without any known adverse effects. The current study was aimed at understanding and comparing the effects of acupuncture with those of neutral hip bath on the symptoms and disability associated with primary dysmenorrhea. Methodology: In the present prospective randomised controlled trial, 70 females aged 21.54 ± 1.73 years fulfilling the study criteria were selected. Subjects were randomly divided into acupuncture and neutral hip bath groups. They were then assessed by the Visual analogue scale and Menstrual symptom questionnaire, outcomes variables assessed on the baseline, mid (30thday) and post (60th day) status of the intervention. Results: In the present study, analysis of variance (RMANOVA) on Visual analogue scale and Menstrual symptom questionnaire scores yielded significant variation among the conditions. Post hoc Tukey’s test showed a significant reduction in mean scores of both acupuncture and neutral hip bath groups. The outcomes variables taken during three intervals, pre vs mid, mid vs post, and pre vs post resulted in a p value ≤ 0.001, thus, suggesting the equal effectiveness of acupuncture and neutral hip bath in primary dysmenorrhea. Conclusion: The present study indicates that neutral hip bath was equally effective as acupuncture in the management of primary dysmenorrhea. It reduces the severity of dysmenorrhoeic pain and associated symptoms in young females.","PeriodicalId":276735,"journal":{"name":"Chettinad Health City Medical Journal","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122733154","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
