Adolescents are particularly vulnerable to the problems associated with academic stress as transitions occur at an individual and social level. It, therefore, becomes imperative to understand the sources and impact of academic stress to derive adequate and efficient intervention strategies. Understanding the sources of stress would facilitate the development of effective counseling modules and intervention strategies by school psychologists and counselors to help students alleviate stress. Anxiety in nursing students negatively impacts academic as well overall success. This review highlights anxiety and coping strategies in nursing students.","PeriodicalId":274276,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Nursing Sciences","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129968074","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) show a higher burden of NCDs including India. The country has launched various programs for the control and prevention of NCDs, but the organization, integration, and implementation of NCD-related health services and programs face many challenges. The objective of this review article is to study the trends and challenges in the prevention and control of common NCDs in India and find probable solutions to them. Methodology: Search on PubMed and Google Scholar databases was done. Out of 387 relevant articles, 50 were included. Websites of various institutes and government portals were searched. Data were compiled and studied for identifying the challenges and their solutions. Results: The challenges were organized at four levels – community, facility, health system and policy, and research as per the WHO Innovative Care for Chronic Conditions frameworks (WHO ICCC) such as identification of eligible beneficiaries, shortage of infrastructure and workforce, lack of skills and need for training, inadequate data, poor surveillance, and monitoring systems and limited research. Conclusion: India’s growing NCD burden needs to be addressed by health-promoting partnerships, policies, and programs. To create successful national, multisectoral program for prevention and control of NCDs, high-level political commitment, intersectoral coordination, and community mobilization is required. Learnings from various other programs could be incorporated for effective management of NCDs in India. A more scientific research-based focus needs to be given to AYUSH and other non-medical interventions.","PeriodicalId":274276,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Nursing Sciences","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115009247","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Some side effects can be serious enough to create delays in treatment. These may include febrile neutropenia, anemia, thrombocytopenia, etc. The objectives were formulated to carry out the study to assess the knowledge of staff nurses on immediate physiological problems occurring due to chemotherapy. Methods: The study opted to use a descriptive approach to its methodology. The research was conducted at the Patel Multispecialty Hospital in Jalandhar, which is located in the state of Punjab in India. The information was gathered from eighty staff nurses using the convenient sample technique and a self-structured questionnaire, and it was then analyzed to determine the level of knowledge possessed by the staff nurses. When doing the analysis of the data, both descriptive and inferential statistics were utilized. Pender’s model of health promotion served as the inspiration for the conceptual framework that this study employed. Results: The overall aspect-wise mean knowledge score was 13.63 with an SD of 5.509 and the total percentage was 40%. In the present communication, we have observed that in the age group 41–50 years has good knowledge of chemotherapy and its immediate side effects rather than others. Conclusion: The nurses with a B.Sc. degree having more information as compared to GNMs followed by those who were working more than 5 years has good knowledge of the side effects of chemotherapy as compared to other staff. Hence, there is a need for an information guide sheet related to immediate physiological problems and the management of chemotherapy, which will be useful to improve the knowledge of staff nurses.","PeriodicalId":274276,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Nursing Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132486272","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is significant to explore the factors responsible for stress among the adolescents so that preventive and remedial strategies may be planned. Therefore, the present study was conducted with the objectives (1) to assess the level of stress among adolescents, (2) to explore the factors causing stress among adolescents, and (3) to find out association of stress with their selected demographical variables. Materials and Methods: An exploratory study was conducted on 100 adolescents studying at select school of the Rahata Tehsil, M. S. Participants were recruited in the study by adapting purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using interview technique with the help of adolescent stress questionnaires which are a 56 items checklist with five point rating scale. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: Findings of the study revealed factors responsible for stress among the adolescents which included home life, school performance, school attendance, peer pressure, interaction with the teachers, future uncertainty, conflicts in the school, financial pressure, and emerging adult responsibility. About 67% and 33% adolescents were having moderate and low stress, respectively. There was a significant association of stress with occupation of mother, religion, and family income. Conclusion: The present study reported moderate stress among 67% of the adolescents, which is alarming. This study highlights the need to orient parents and teachers to factors of stress and ways of modifying them.","PeriodicalId":274276,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Nursing Sciences","volume":"174 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127585476","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is believed to be the direct cause of 24% of infant fatalities. While preterm births account for between 5% and 7% of all live births in some developed nations, it is believed that the proportion is much higher in developing nations. Nearly 30% of infants in India, or 7.5 million, are born low birth weight (LBW) (2500 g). This accounts for 42% of the global burden, more than any other nation. Approximately 60% of LBW neonates are born at term after fetal growth restriction, while the remaining 40% are born prematurely. The prevalence of SGA is 46.9%, exceeding all countries except two. Nesting is one of the most important factors in maintaining a healthy position for a premature infant, which involves positioning the hands near the face and the feet together while using positioning aids to create a secure, snug, and supportive nest. The capacity to nest keeps premature neonates in a comfortable position, enables spontaneous motor activity for skeletal joint and neuromuscular function, and facilitates the monitoring of stable vital signs. Commonly, infants are wrapped in a breathable, lightweight blanket to help them unwind and fall asleep.","PeriodicalId":274276,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Nursing Sciences","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126291646","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
