It showed superior therapeutic potential against numerous disease conditions. Acupressure is a type of acupuncture. Both acupressure and acupuncture are based on same fundamental principle of acupoints activation across the meridians. It is a pressure point, hand-mediated energy healing technique which is considered as useful strategy for the management of multiple symptoms, along with beneficial physical comforts, satisfaction, and economy. As a whole, acupressure is a manually operated, needle-free, non-invasive, cost-effective, and non-pharmacological healing intervention to promote patients’ well-being. From the last few decades, acupressure is widely used in pregnancy, like for induction of labor, morning sickness, and labor pain. CAM therapies are the real culture-specific remedies practiced throughout the world. Acupressure is a non-invasive and non-pharmacological intervention with multidimensional roles and benefits. To support acupressure (CAM) in the near future and expand CAM therapies, we have to shed more light on therapeutic functionalities of acupressure and to encourage its practice across the hospitals.","PeriodicalId":274276,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Nursing Sciences","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135058992","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The setting for this study was the selected outpatient department (OPD) of the hospital of Pune city. The population of the study comprised expectant fathers attending the antenatal OPD and who meet the designed criteria for the study. A convenient sampling technique was used for selecting 60 expectant fathers from antenatal OPD of selected hospital who met the designed criteria during the period of data collection. Result: Of 60 samples, 14 (26.67%) had poor knowledge, 46 (73.33%) had average knowledge, and no sample had good knowledge score. Forty (66.67%) of fathers had positive attitude toward safe motherhood and 20 (33.33%) had negative attitude toward safe motherhood. The correlation between knowledge and attitude was r = 0.24 and P > 0.05, so there was no correlation between knowledge and attitude of expectant fathers. There was an association between knowledge scores and educational status, occupation, and monthly income of fathers regarding safe motherhood as P < 0.01 level of statistical significance. There was an association between attitude scores and educational status of fathers regarding safe motherhood as P < 0.01 level of statistical significance. Methods: One group pre-test post-test design was adopted for the study. The approach involved the description of the plan to investigate the phenomenon under study in a structured (quantitative), unstructured (qualitative) or a combination of both (quantitative – qualitative integrated approach) methods. A non-probability convenience sampling technique was used to collect data from 50 patients. The data were collected using a semi-structured questionnaire. Results: In the pre-test, 36% of the study subjects had good knowledge about dengue whereas 26% had poor knowledge scores. There was a marked improvement in the post-test knowledge scores. Chi-square test revealed that in the pre-test there is a significant association between the demographic variables, age, gender, educational qualification, and previous knowledge with the knowledge scores where as the post-test showed significant association of knowledge scores with the demographic variables age and educational qualification on DF. Conclusion: The study can be concluded that the video-assisted teaching may have served a key role in improving the knowledge level of participants based on the t-test and Chi-square results.","PeriodicalId":274276,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Nursing Sciences","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124868227","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The 2006 World Health Report highlighted the critical shortage of both nurses and nursing faculty in 57 countries, including India.[1] In India, the 12th 5-year plan document highlights the scarcity of nurses and midwifery at the country level.[2] While this observation is correct at the country level, the four southern states, namely, Tamil Nadu (TN), Kerala, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh account for 78% of nursing institutions offering Bachelor and Master of Science in Nursing (BSc.[N]) in India.[3] In the past 5 years, TN has witnessed a significant increase in the number of private institutions for training nurses and midwives. There were 40 private nursing colleges offering BSc.(N) degree in 2006. By 2014, there were 165 private colleges – these include both for-profit and missionary hospitals (which are non-profit oriented). In the meantime, the public sector has not been growing as quickly, increasing from two colleges in 2006 to four colleges in 2014. It should be noted that excess production of nurses in the state does not mean that there is no shortage of nurses (as per official norms) in public or private facilitiesa. 1Acute shortage of human resources, particularly paramedical staff, in public facilities continues to constrain the effective functioning of public health system across the country.","PeriodicalId":274276,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Nursing Sciences","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127218613","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
