In most of the societies, children are considered as a natural result of union of man and a woman in the institution of marriage. In all cultures, being pregnant or to produce a child is considered as a major event in the family. If a couple fails to conceive for a year after regular sexual intercourse without contraception, they are called infertile. Objectives: The study assessed the level of stress and coping strategies adopted by couples seeking treatment for infertility. Methods: A non-experimental, exploratory, and descriptive method was used to assess stress and coping. The data were collected from 60 couples seeking treatment for infertility using a semi-structured questionnaire and Modified Likert Scale from the selected hospitals of Pune. Results: Data analysis reveals that 61.7% of the husbands had moderate stress whereas only 30% was found in wife. About 70% of wife had mild stress and 33.3% was found among husband. About 5% of severe stress was observed in husband whereas wife had none. About 78.33% of the husband had average coping whereas 65% was found in wife. About 23.33% wives had good coping and 13.3% was found in husband. Poor coping was found in 11.66% of the wives and 8.3% among husband. Stress among wives was found to have significant association with demographic variable “religion” compared to others. Conclusion: The present study shows that majority of the couples were able to cope though they had stress regarding infertility.","PeriodicalId":274276,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Nursing Sciences","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132851185","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In India, not many national studies have examined EBF patterns over the past decade to inform national and international breastfeeding programs. Globally, India has the highest number of deaths under the age of 5. Therefore, the researcher wanted to do this research. Aim: The main objective of the study was to find out the effectiveness of a structured teaching program for mothers only at Lister Hospital in Kanyakumari district. Method: The study was designed to test information on breastfeeding only for mothers at Lister Hospital in Kanyakumari district. To achieve the objectives of the study, a pre-experimental one-group pre-test and post-test research design was adopted. For this study, the sample contains 50 mothers that meet the criteria for inclusion of the study. The non-probability sampling method was used in this study. Sociodemographic data and only breastfeeding questionnaires were used to collect data. The data collected were sorted according to different parameters and a complete analysis was performed with descriptive and inferential statistics. Result: In the pre-test, only 5 (10%) samples had adequate knowledge, and in the post-test, 43 samples (86%) received adequate level of knowledge about EBF. Conclusion: It shows that the formal teaching program worked well. Breastfeeding education contributes significantly to increasing mothers’ knowledge about EBF.","PeriodicalId":274276,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Nursing Sciences","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133990137","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Background: India establishes 3–5% of the global burden on childhood asthma. Psychosocial problems such as emotional, behavioral, and educational problems are highly prevalent among children and can severely interfere with everyday functioning. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study design was used. It was conducted among 140 children with bronchial asthma between the age group of 4–12 years and their caregivers who satisfied the sampling criteria. The tools used were socio-personal and clinical data sheet, an anthropometric measurement sheet, and Pediatric Symptom Checklist. Results: In growth monitoring, 11.4% of children had stunting, 6% of children were above the 97th percentile of height, 7.1% of children were underweight and 1.5% of children were above the 97th percentile of weight. It was found that 4.3% of children were having difficulty in psychosocial functioning. It was also seen that 12.9%, 4.3%, and 5% of children were having difficulty functioning in the domains of internalizing, attention, and externalizing, respectively. Conclusion: Early detection and management of growth problems and psychosocial dysfunction are essential to prevent growth faltering and abnormal psychosocial development of children with bronchial asthma.","PeriodicalId":274276,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Nursing Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129303293","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In developing countries, coronary artery diseases have been recognized as a major public health problem. Cardiovascular emergencies account for at least 30% of all medical emergencies. During cardiovascular emergencies, the survival of the patient depends on a rapid response that provides high quality treatment based on latest guideline. Administration of the correct drugs is an important aspect of this process and among the health team members nurses are taking an increasingly important role. However, most of the studies done by the various researchers found that the majority of the nurses are unaware about the vital drugs used in the cardiac emergencies. Methods: In the present study, one group pre-test and post-test research design was used to assess effectiveness of video-assisted teaching program (VATP) on knowledge of emergency drugs among 30 staff nurses by purposive sampling method working in selected hospital. Structured knowledge questionnaire was used. Results: Finding revealed that the majority of respondents 70% had only average knowledge whose percentage of score ranged between (35 and 70). Only 10% of the respondents had good knowledge (70–100) and 20% of the respondents had poor knowledge (0–35) regarding emergency drugs.
