Some women enjoyed being pregnant, which found pregnancy life-changing and exciting. Most of the women may not have much problem during pregnancy, but few of them face some problems related to pregnancy and childbirth. Anxiety is believed that more than one in ten women struggle with symptoms of anxiety during pregnancy. The aim of this study was to assess the relationship between the pregnancy experience and antenatal anxiety. Methodology: The research approach was quantitative in nature. One hundred and twenty primigravida who fulfilled the inclusion criteria were selected using non-probability convenient sampling technique. Interview method was used and the structured questionnaire, modified pregnancy experience scale, and modified perinatal anxiety screening scale were used to collect data. Results: The study result showed that the samples had good pregnancy experience and reported mild-to-moderate level of anxiety. There was a weak positive correlation between pregnancy experience and antenatal anxiety (0.247) which was significant at P < 0.01 level of significance. Comparison among trimesters revealed that in the second trimester pregnancy event was less leading to reduction in anxiety which was the least among all the trimesters. Conclusion: Pregnancy experience and anxiety will be the major determining factor for the fetal development. Ensuring positive pregnancy experience will reduce anxiety and improve good fetal growth.","PeriodicalId":274276,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Nursing Sciences","volume":"257 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114432010","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The lungs are covered by a double-layered serous membrane called pleura. The space between the pleura contains pleural fluid which helps in lubrication and prevents friction between the lungs and chest wall. Intercostal drain is a flexible plastic tube that is inserted through the chest wall into the pleural space. It is used to remove air, fluid, and pus from the intrathoracic space. Apatient may require an intercoastal drainage system at any time when the negative pressure in the pleural cavity is disrupted, resulting in respiratory distress. Aims: The aim of the study was to assess the effect of instructional package on knowledge and practices regarding care of the patients with intercoastal drainage among staff nurses in selected hospitals. Materials and Methods: A descriptive evaluatory research approach with one group pre-test post-test research design was used for the study. The sample comprised 50 staff nurses who fulfilled the inclusion criteria, using non-probability convenient sampling technique. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: We observed that knowledge and practices measured after instructional package was significant (P < 0.05). There were association of knowledge with age, department, and qualification and for practices association found with age and qualification, respectively. Conclusion: Instructional package was effective measured to improve knowledge and practices regarding care of the patients with intercoastal drainage among staff nurses in selected hospitals.","PeriodicalId":274276,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Nursing Sciences","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130504527","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this study was to assess the effect of distraction using rattle on pain among infants during IV Cannulation in Upasana Hospital, Kollam. Quantitative research approach was adopted for this study. Quasi-experimental post-test only control group design and purposive sampling technique was used to select 40 infants aged between 2 and 6 months, 20 each in the experimental group and control group at Upasana Hospital, Kollam. After obtaining consent from the concerned authorities of the hospital and participants caregiver, the study was done. Distraction using rattle provided to the experimental group for few minute during beginning to till end of the procedure. No intervention was given in the control group. Pain assessment was done by Neonatal Infant Pain Scale during procedure. The data thus collected were analyzed using differential and inferential statistics. Analysis revealed that the mean pain score of control group (5.3) was significantly higher than the mean pain score of experimental group (2.4) and calculated “t” value (6.74) was greater than table value (1.69) at 0.05 level of significance. There was significant association between the pain score among infants with selected demographic variables such as age in month, birth order, weight of child in experimental group and age in month, and site of cannulation in control group. Therefore, it is interpreted that the distraction using rattle among infants during IV cannulation is effective in reducing the pain.","PeriodicalId":274276,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Nursing Sciences","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116060164","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The incidence of vascular injuries after pediatric cardiac catheterization is not as well defined. With the advent of therapeutic cardiac catheterization in pediatric patients, the incidence of vascular complications is likely to increase. Purpose: The aim of the study was to determine the incidence and management of vascular injuries associated with pediatric cardiac catheterization as an initial experience of in a newly established pediatric center. Methods: This retrospective and observational study was conducted on 268 children with congenital heart disease who have undergone cardiac catheterization either as diagnostic procedure or a therapeutic intervention between March 2018 and August 2019. Patient records were reviewed to obtain demographic, procedural, and treatment data. Patients were analyzed for the incidence and the type of vascular injury seen and treatment given for the same. The type of vascular injury was divided in to major and minor based on severity of the injury. Results: Diagnostic cardiac catheterization was performed in 77 patients and interventions in 191 patients. A total of 62 (23.1%) patients developed some vascular injury out of which 60 (22.3%) cases had minor complication and 2 (0.7%) had major a complication. The most common type of vascular complication seen in our study was transient loss of femoral pulse. Conclusions: Vascular injury is common in children undergoing cardiac catheterization, majority of which are minor complications and can be managed conservatively. They are seen more commonly during therapeutic cardiac catheterization.
